The online racing simulator
How much money have you saved buying LFS?
I just want to say thanks to LFS team cos they help me to save a lot of money last 2 years :-)
Before buying LFS I wasted a lot of money every 3 or 4 months. The new hard for my pc was a must, cos i want to play lastest videogames, so i needed a new 3d graphics cards, or more ram, or more CPU power every this short period of time.
Last 2 years I only play LFS, no time for games now, only LFS simulator.

Money I Saved? between 1000 or 2000€ in last 2 years, maybe more. Every day I play LFS im saving more money, cos my PC runs S2 perfectly and I dont need more PC power until S3 arrives.

Thanks a lot SCAVIER, you are the best!
I bought a real car thanks to LFS, serriously
Hadn't upgraded my PC for about 3 years now, and since i lost interest in other games, i didn't have the need to uprgade to a better PC, because this one rans fine LFS and RBR, which are the only "games" i still play..

lol LFS has cost me money in upgrading my PC and I still need to upgrade to a whole new system to get decent performance. Tells you something about my PC

Well I haven't saved money, in fact my pc ended up costing more because I had to buy LFS and a wheel I can't help upgrading my pc every couple of years anyway.
Damn how does it save you money? Some sort of investment plan? Well mines doesn't work anyway and I lost 24 quid.
I would've replaced my PC a year or so ago if I still played other games, but I think I'll make up for that when I buy a three-monitor replacement in a few months' time.

If I would play only LFS, sure money would have been saved, a loads, but I happen to play that other game and because of that I needed to get new GFX card and because of that new PSU, 300€ one year ago.

I hope that I will manage with these, just need new HDD, but other that that it should be now enough good for long time as I don't see anything will be coming that would be worthwhile to upgrade and I have just enough playing with these two, oh and PES6 too

True, LFS runs great on modest hardware, but damn does it look good on a widescreen monitor with 8XAA and 16XAF!!
4xAA or more really makes the game look lush.

ditto, if I look at it that way

However, I have been getting my PC 'just as I want it' so that has cost some cash, but I would have spent that anyway. I save money on not buying many other games. I only buy the big titles like Doom3 & Half-Life 2...which shows how long it is since I bought a game. I got Prey...but that doesn't count

i feel like a right goon buying a 7950GT and trying to voltmod it, and swapping a 4000 for a 3700 just so i could get an overclocked 3 GHz AMD CPU when i only play a DX8 game!
Old school Gran Turismo racer here...GT3 iLinking and GT4 LANing.

At this point, I'd say I've saved the price of a PS3; currently about US$500-800, depending on where you shop.

Not to mention, discovering real Sim Racing and real Sim physics.

Same story. I used to play lots of games, but today LFS is the only game installed on my Windows (apart from RBR, which is there for friends who like to play it w/ me occasionally).

Nice, Fiat isn't it?
Is that the actual car you're going to buy?
Don't see many of those around anymore (well not in the UK as far as I've seen anyway).

yep (hopefully)

was lucky, asked a member on x1/9 ownersclub how much he sold his for as he lived in north wales and wanted to get idea of local price

got email back he still hadnt sold as he's too far away from interested people in england, i.e. 12 miles from me

E reg 57,000 miles, only downer is someones fitted a glass sunroof in the lift out roof. will have to see how i like it but think i'll be getting another roof for it.

surprising how many are out there if you check autotrader / ebay / ownersclub. there is a very clean VS on autotrader in rippon at the moment and probably underpriced too given its history (not in advert but it was uk car taken out to spain after purchase and recently brought back )
To precise LFS has cost me £206 with lfs and wheels. Not had to upgrade pc but i will (someday lol)
LFS has stopped me buying most racing games for pc and playstation. So overall i would say it has saved me money still but who knows really.
Since buying LFS i've bought 3 wheels (Saitek R440, DFP and now G25) and added an extra 512mb ram to my PC.

Managed to get RBR for £5 and I think the only other bought game was GTA San Andreas. The other games are demos of NKP and DR, oh and not forgetting RoR!

Had I not been into LFS I would have bought GTR, GTR2, GTL, Toca RD3 and the whole Colin Mcrae 4 5 blah blah blah.

So LFS has definately saved me alot of money!!
I see people comment on "LFS cost me because it made me buy a car." A car is a neccessity (I ain't walkin the 20 miles to work!) I see "LFS made me buy a wheel." I've had a wheel since 1995, and bought the Momo for NR2003, not for LFS, though it was a short while later that I found LFS.

What did it cost me? $43 USD and some change. What did it save me? I'm on dialup, and it runs perfectly fine on dialup, saved around $50 per month. I have onboard graphics in an off-the-shelf system, and it runs perfectly fine with onboard graphics, even with some AA/AF. My PC fried, so I needed to pick up a new one anyways. Not much cash, so I picked up the off-the-shelf full system (display and printer included) for $500 rather than spending $1000 on building a system myself.

Oh, what else did LFS cost me? Many a miserable grumpy Monday mornings at work because I was up too late race .
Thanks to LFS I've knackered out a joystick, brought 3 wheels, invested in a bigger screen, brought decent headphones, and brought a new desk to better clamp the wheel onto. I also put together a new system last summer (to a £300 budget), not entirely sure why as LFS is the only PC game I still play much and it ran fine on the old system. Looks pretty nice with all the AF/AA turned up though
lfs has saved me money - I stopped taking my real car for as many mountain drives and track days. Also probably made me less likely to crash as I don't feel the same urge to push the limit out in reality as I used to.

Really I didn't save money at all

License 35€
Wheel 130€
Putty to reinforce wheel clamp 20€
New graphic card 90€
New power supply 40€
Karting with other LFS racers in a meeting 30€ and going up

More than 300 € but I'm happy with the inversion
About £650 worth of Polo, and probably a little girls leg bones the other day. Both in controlled braking, rather than instinctive planting of foot (no ABS) which has been instinctively beaten into me from LFS and accidently overshooting corners but not locking up into gravel.

ALL of the above are true for me too!!
I don't play other games anymore. Just LFS & Mame.
We are talking about serious bucks here, I had changed from
GeForce3Ti200>Radeon 9700 PRO>GeForce6800GT>LFS came
Celeron 1700>P4 2400>P4 3200>LFS came

No more stupid FPS hunting and benchmarking and tweaking and buying. Just fun. My next upgrade will be in 2 years from now.

Well i havent saved a penny since i started playing LFS! I first started playing it on a laptop (using the keyboard and only running at 40fps MAX), i soon got fed up of that, so i got a friend (already LFS fanatic) to build me a pc worthy of playing LFS(now running ave of 170fps!) Then i decided to get a wheel (DFP). Then my Girlfriend was giving me grief because i was taking up all her desk space with my wheel and new Pc! So i got another Desk but then to go with the desk i had to get a new office chair! Then came patch V, so of course i had to go out and get myself some tastey new speakers to enjoy the new sounds of LFS!

New Pc £500
New monitor £160
DFP £60
Desk FREE (mums old one!)
Office chair £25 (half price at Focus!!)
New Speakers £60
LFS S2 £24
Total £829
(and i've only been playing since September)
Worth every penny if you ask me!
Hands up EVERYBODY who has recently spent ~£150 on a new steering wheel, just to play LFS??....mmm....thought so!!
