Quote from daanroof :I personally think that the engine is too weak, not many cars that drifts has a 140bhp engine..

a very popular drifting car is the AE86 (Toyota Sprinter Trueno), aka, hachi-roku (八六). this because doubly true after initial-d became popular.

the AE86 only had 130 hp (97 kW) and 103 ft·lb (140 nm). pretty close to the XFG

and if you can't figure it out, try watching the Drift Bible. There is a part in that video, where Tsuchiya-san shows you how to drift with a low power car (35 minute mark). The car he uses, FYI, is the the AE86.

imo, i don't think real names should be part of the pubstats export.

the only reason most people would care about names is if it were for people they actually knew, and in that case that can just write a function to switch the user name to the real name, which is stored in the calling script.

although, as a 2nd thought, could the racer name be added?
that would be helpful for people that use a different racername from their account name. (like myself)

if not, no problem, because i can just sure the same method as above

Quote from nikimere :cool!! i just ordered an eye toy on ebay for €6
and i'm pretty sure i have some Ir LED's at home... will a normal AA battery light them?

it should, but it might also overpower the LED and burn it out. you'll most likely need some resistors. but LEDs and a couple bits of wire are inexpensive, so experiment away

yeah, i'd been reading free-track.net, but i guess i missed the part on the 1 lamp, which i agree is all i need for LFS, and makes the process much easier. thanks!

Quote from NikLaw :My head tracking device as a prototype. The USB lamp is on the left.

it looks like you have only one "light" point on your setup. from what i know (little), you need at least 2 points for tracking to work, and 3 points for more DOF.

am i mistaken on this?

i'm planning on building my own free-track system soon, so any info is appreciated.

digital speedometers really isn't that unusual of an item on a car, and no, they aren't limited to just high end cars.

back in college, i had an 89 pontiac that had a digital speedometer. it was very common on a good portion of GM cars in the late 80s and early 90s. hardly high end.

also the rx8 has a digital speedometer. also, not a high end car, and, imo, has a much better implementation than the digital speedometers from back in the 80s/90s. it actually looks like it should be like that, instead of just slapped in because its new. not being orange helps.

Quote from motary :Not sure whether this is the right place, but:

Tyres are not inflated after deflated ones have been replaced:

I just experienced this...popped a tire, went into the pits, tire was replaced. the message was displayed that it was being replaced, and outside temps were the default blue, but the inside was black. did a visual confirm from outside the car, and the tire was definitely flat.

confirmed this on several track in both single player and multiplayer.

for the blown tire to actually be fixed, repair damage has to be set to yes in the pit instructions.

can't imagine any pit crew would replace a warm blown tire with a cold blown tire

Quote from simscube :but he does have a point, almost all of the cars are just variations of the other cars (XRG, XRT, XRR just to name one case of model overuse)

and yet they are dramatically different cars to drive.

Quote from Inouva :Nonononono , dont fear to the spider , let bite you and perhaps mutate into sipder man , and fight against crackers , hakers, cheaters of LFS

i've actually had a poisonous spider (brown recluse) bite me. i didn't get any cool special powers. i just had to take some foul tasting medicine and apply a medicated ointment to the bite for 2 weeks.

needless to say, i don't much care for the nasty little things.

Quote from h3adbang3r :A blue flag is a signal shown by a race marshall that the race leader is beginning to catch up to you, and should be wary.

that's not exactly right. A blue flag informs a driver that a faster car is approaching and that the driver should move aside to allow one or more faster cars to pass. it has nothing to do position in the race.

according to the offical page, TDU is fully FFB supported. can't comment more than that, as the only game i've tried with the wheel is forza 2.

also, an annoying thing about the wheel. it comes with PGR3. that's great an all for those that don't have PGR3, but really, i think the majority of people interested in the wheel have PGR3. I'd rather the wheel be $30 cheaper than to get a duplicate copy of a game.

ah, i have heard of the steering wheel slop issue before with the 360 wheel. that seems to be a hit or miss issue though. some wheels have it, and others don't. i've heard of people going returning 2-3 wheels before getting a good one. and while the FFB isn't as the g25, i find it has enough strenght to get the job done. and there is the price, but when you are the only FFB game in town, you get to dictate the prices

still, good points to bring up.

i've got the MS wheel in addition to a g25. while the build quality isn't the same as the g25, it isn't bad either...about on par with other logitech wheels i've either owned (df ex), or used (dfp, momo). FFB on it is more than adequate at well.

but apparently YMMV

Quote from Forbin :Then there are parts-based appearance modifications, such as body kits. As I'm sure you're aware, such things only add weight and slow the car down, so there's no point in having them in a racing sim.

there is a real purpose to body kits (real ones used in auto racing, not the cheap plastic ones ricers use), and it is to increase aerodynamic efficiency (lower CoD), lower lift and/or increase downforce. so actually, there is a point in having them in a racing sim.

again, not the cheap kits used on POS "tuners", but the real kits used in racing applications.

i see no reason why the x360 wheel wouldn't work using the wireless gaming adaptor that is required for the regular wireless xbox controller to work in windows. that said, i haven't tried it.

and as for forza 2 cars being on rails, they absolutely are not. the unmodified cars handle like they should, and when you apply suspension and aero mods, then they handle better (if they are tuned correctly).

i do agree that forza 2 is more "arcady" than lfs, but only slightly more so, and that feel is greatly reduced when using the wheels and pedals, to which the same could be said for those racing in LFS with gamepads/keyboard.

regardless of what car you are using, you have to use proper driving techniques to achieve fast times. basically, you have to drive like you do in LFS, and if you try driving like you do in GT4, then you will not make the turn.

you are very much entitled to your opinion, but when you spout off about what you know nothing about, you just lose credibility.

i hope that you don't take that as a personal attack, because it is not meant as such.
