not everyone in the army is a redneck...at least going into it anyways. but they a good many of them do portray themselves that way while they are there.

and it is sad that friendly fire still occurs as often as it does, with all of the technological advances that have come about over the past 30 or so years.

my dad was in vietnam (drafted, didn't voluntarilly inlist), and was a sergant in the army. one day his squad was out patrolling along a river, which was also being patrolled by the navy. The army new of the navy's presence, but the reverse was not true.

When the navy saw my dad's squad along the river, they opened fire. several men were injured, a few were killed, and my dad lost his right eye.

what's the point of my story? dunno. i kinda forgot were i was going
but i guess the point could be, the most advanced technology is useless if it isn't utilized.

yup. i know about floam. never actually played with the stuff though. and doesn't really suprise me that it makes a mess.

so, if you mix the different colors together in a "project" like in the commercials, does it kind of mix together to make a new color, or just create a patchy blob?

from the Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Vol. 14, No. 9, 963-975 (1999)

Quote :
Results from this study challenge the assumption that animal abusers commonly "graduate" from violence against animals to violence against humans. The criminal records of 153 animal abusers and 153 control participants were tracked and compared. Animal abusers were more likely than control participants to be interpersonally violent, but they also were more likely to commit property offenses, drug offenses, and public disorder offenses. Thus, there was an association between animal abuse and a variety of antisocial behaviors, but not violence alone. Moreover, when the time order between official records of animal abuse and interpersonal violence was examined, animal abuse was no more likely to precede than follow violent offenses. Although these findings dispute the assumption that animal abuse inevitably leads to violence toward humans, they point to an association between animal abuse and a host of antisocial behaviors, including violence. Also discussed are the methodological problems of demonstrating sequential temporal relations between animal abuse and other antisocial behaviors.

empahise mine

simply put, people who abuse animals are more likely to commit other crimes, including violent crimes, than people who don't abuse animals.

Quote from DeKo :im a big sap when it comes to animal things. I love my cat to bits. even those adverts on tele with the sad looking dogs and cats i can barely watch. how anybody would even hurt a cat or any other animal is beyond me.

i'm the same way. if someone did something like taht to our pup, i'd likely go mental, and go all dirty harry on them.

wow. that's really f'ed up. i'd say that i hope they catch the person, but from what i've read, that doesn't seem likely.

at least here, animal cruelty pretends to be existant. 2 teens were arrested a few months back for torturing and taping a puppy's legs together and putting it in an oven. needless to say, the puppy didn't survive.

they are facing 90 years. they'll likely get 2years and be eligable for parol after 1year. like i said, pretends to be existant.

i personally think they should get the death penalty.

seriously, what kind of pathetic excuse of a person does stuff like this?

again, very sorry

also depends on what kind of heatsink the card has.

passive HS are going to run a bit hotter, but obviously much quieter.
"normal" HS/Fan is going to be cooler, and had minimum to moderate noise.
the HS/Fans that take up an extra expansion slot typically cool the best, but are also the noisiest.

that said, modern gpus are good for temps up to 90 to 120 celius (depending on the chip in question).

my 1600 has a "normal" hs/fan setup, and i've never seen it peak over ~70c, even after extended gaming sessions.

Quote from P5YcHoM4N :I'd buy this if it was me, or if you want to save a couple of bucks this.

crazy. i didn't see those. yeah, those are both really good cards. probably among the best agp cards you'll find.

i'd recommend the x800 above all, but its expensive. Next would be one of the 7600 cards, after that x1600, and after that a 6800 or 6600 if you can find one.

and don't listen to the fud about atis overheating. i've had two ati cards, and most of my friends have ati cards. out of those 10 cards, not a single one of them has had overheating problems.

i seem to remember a few years back, one manufacturer had some issues with not having a good seal on the heatsinks, which caused some of the cards to overheat. but the company replaced the cards of the people that were having problems, and have long since addressed the problem, and it is no longer an issue.

the x1600 is a decent budget line, a little below the 7600 line in terms of performance, but also 2/3 the cost.

i've got the x1600xt, and at 1440x900, i get ~150fp with no AA and no AF.

with 4xAA and 4xAF, i get ~100fps, depending on the track and number of cars. Lowest i've seen is around 70fps, at grid starts.

at 8xAA and 16xAF, it tops at around 75fps, and dips to about 40fps at race start.

also, i've had the card for about 6 months now, and have had several long gaming sessions (4+ hours), and typically run 2 hours at a time, and have never even come close to overheating the card.

but that's all beside the point, because those cards are either not AGP cards, or not available from the vendor speedfreak wants to buy from.

Quote from speedfreak227 :Why not the LE model?

speedfreak227

LE models have slower memory, slower clock speeds, and they typically have less internal bandwidth, which serverly hampers performance. all of which adds up to a slower card than your 4200ti

well, seeing as you only want to order from that site, and prefer nvidia, you're only option is the 6200 (not the LE).

the only other agp nvidia cards are the mx4000 and the fx5200, which would be a down grade from your current card.

going ati, you could get...(most of these are under Sapphire)
x800 (a bit above your upper limit, but a great card)
9800se (meh card, but can be soft-modded into a 9800 pro, which is a very good card)
9600xt (fairly decent card)
x1300pro (decent card)
9800 (good card)

best card on the list is the x800, but its pricy. if you feel comfortable with the prospects of softmodding a card, go with the 9800se. But be aware, that it is possible to brick the thing. not likey, but possible, especially if you don't know what you are doing. after that, i'd say the 9600xt/9800/6200. and last choice option would be the x1300.

GT4 on the PS2 supports 480i and 1080i. you have to buy the PS2 component cables. after hooking up the component cables, you can select 1080i from the in game options menu.

there is one caveat though. it only supports 1080i in races. Game menus are 480i. So, there is lots of switching back and forth. very annoying, depending on the tv (some handle it better than others).

Thats one of the only aspects of their business that is profitable...

was profitable. and its also the root of their 12billion dollar loses right now. since the gas prices spiked last year, the interest in SUVs and large pickups is way down. and since ford had pretty much put all its efforts in that basket, when it died, it was a huge blow to them.

now people are interested in fuel economy again. and that's why hondas and toyotas are doing well. for the most part, they get good fuel economy.

but people here still want their big cars, and that's why the CUV concept is taking off here, as well as hybrids.

mazda has never been the high volume manufacture like gm, ford, toyota or honda. taking that into account, they seem to be doing just fine, producing just under 2 million cars from Jan-Nov in 06.

by contrast, toyota made 7.5 million cars in the same time period.

from press release on sales results...last available. dec 06 results haven't been released yet

Mazda Production and Sales Results for November 2006

Mazda's production and sales results for November 2006 show that domestic production has exceeded that for the same month in the previous year for 13 consecutive months since November 2005. Export figures have also exceeded those from the same month in the previous year for 16 consecutive months since August 2005. November 2006 was the single best month for both domestic production and exports in the last ten years.

Due to increased production volumes of CX-7, Mazda3 and Mazda5, domestic production volumes exceeded those for the same month last year, up 3.5% on November 2005. The Hofu Plant had a monthly production record of 47,771 units in November, which is a 4.6% increase over the same period last year.

Domestic sales volumes decreased year-on-year, down 5.6%. Due to steady sales of Mazda3 and Verisa, registered passenger vehicle sales increased (up +0.2%) for the first time in 17 months since June 2005. Mazda's registered vehicle market share in Japan was 5.3% (up +0.1 points over November 2005), with a 2.0% market share (-0.4 points) for the micro-mini segment and a 4.1% total market share, down 0.1 points compared to last year's result.

November 2006 exports exceeded those of November 2005, up 14.8% year-on-year due to increased Mazda3 and CX-7 exports. On a market basis, exports to North America were strong, reaching 25,638 units (up 51.9% year-on-year), mostly attributable to increased exports of the Mazda3 and CX-7.

Overseas production was down 6.6% year-on-year. Although overseas production of the BT-50 truck remained steady at 7,216 units (up 23.0% year-on-year), overseas production of the Mazda6 and Mazda3 declined. On a country basis, production of the BT-50 truck in Thailand was steady at 3,816 units, up 10.1% compared to November 2005.

Quote from robt :my system ran on a 64mb agp card happily enough. i think LFS uses about 36mb of graphics, so id say 64 meg minimum.

i don't use half size textures or texture compression, and i'm around 80mb for video memory...although, i am using a bunch of custom, high-res textures.
