i like long articles, this just proves someone is making his thoughts about something and isn't just writing something like "would be kinda cool to have some really nice motionblur, you know the one from nfs-overground when pressing NOS injection!"
i support your effort, and i think you are right.
(i just want to add GP2 and GP3 which had a great modding comunity as well)
yep they were all (almost) singleplayer oriented, but that is because of the technical evolution of the internet...
BUT (and this but is really huge, i mean huger then bushs incompetence)
you will not find not much ear in this or any lfs forum, because most of the people stick to the opinion of the devs, which is: modding won't be good for the game at this phase of it.
i think the damage model is far off from finished, as well as the aero-model so i think it would not make sens to have new cars because they will need a full rework if there is something changing which the devs can't guarantee if its not one of their cars. BUT i don't see any reason why they don't take in some new tracks evey now and then, produced by the community...
anyway, keep up your article writing! sometimes we will get:....
the last race of season 1 of the LFSCAR "360degree.tk cup" will be a 360 lap event in the middle of february. we will run it with as close as possible nascar rules and will contain the next seasons ruleset (without the new car)
everyone is invited to join that race (you also can team up with a teammate or buddy in one car). it is necessary to qualify, which will be held on raceday one hour before the race.
the race will be on a sunday 25th.
Qualifying 16.30 CET (1 outlap 2 fastlaps) + 11 lap sprint race with flying start (this is to make sure everyone understands the pacecar rules)
Race starts at 17.15 CET according to the result of the sprint race
At the start, the pacecar will start from the back and overtake everyone.
DON'T MOVE UNTIL YOU GET THE "ROLLING START" Msg.
Pacecar rules (you will get visual commands for that as well)
When pacecar comes out, no overtaking what so ever!!! (FULL COURSE YELLOW)
pacecar trys to catch the leader. NO overtaking of the pacecar! pacecar will tell you if you are allowed to overtake!
when all gaps are closed to single file, all cars in front of the leader but behind the pacecar go to inner file. also all cars which are not in the lead lap go to inner file (double file)
race will be restarted when you get the GREEN command after next time you pass start/finish line.
pit rules under pacecar:
first pits are open ONLY for crashed cars
when pacecar catchs the leader, pits are open to everyone
a pacecar phase will last for about 5 laps and will wait for file up everyone!
DO YOU HAVE THE GUTS FOR 4,5h of FREAKING LAPS?
ARE YOU MAN ENOUGH TO STAND IT?
CHICKEN????
if you want to participate, SIGN UP IN THIS THREAD PLZ!
as you may know, i was running the 360° racing series since october as a first leage. (btw. it is still running) which is an actual oval league.
for the 2nd Season and the last event of the first Season (the kyoto 360 lap event) race we will introduce the the new logo and naming for next season. and will run also the ruleset for second season which will be much closer to nascar (doublefile, relaping ,...). allthough we will rund FXR for season one, this might change for 2nd Season
it's like that time ben johnson doped himself to gold medal in seoul 1988. after that case, the times of ALL top athlets were down by almost half a second. everyone was just taking that shit that time, but ben johnson was the one who got caught...
so if there is a way to cheat, someone will find it and use it...
yep, but and that is a big BUT: the ghost car works in client only mode i think. so you are not able to use that thing online right? i am not able to use it at all, it sometimes produced blue-screen of death on my machine so i do not use it anymore... but yes..
if its online possible, then all of the drivers would need to install that mod in a race with pacecar (which is not a problem) but can be... native support would be better...
btw: Gunn, is this topic right in this subforum? i think it fits better in LFS-Programmers, isn't it?
i think the problem is they have gone too much away from the look of a real car. and maybe they try to get back a little with the COT. making the windshield angle higher, making the overall car higher, putting on wings. and the other thing is, if you look to nascar vehicles from the past, you can see wings and stuff...
and on top of that its about safety...
but i think a real judgement is only possible if we see them in a race with full grid. they've banned bumpdrafting with this car, but we will see....
taking that under consideration:
NASCAR pace car driver Elmo Langley (August 22, 1929–November 21, 1996) was a frequent "victim" of Dale Earnhardt, who had a reputation for bumping the pace car during cautions "for the fun of it".
i am not quite sure at the moment about the technical restrictions to these "wings" but i've seen several pictures now and it looks like they are not always on the same place or sometimes higher above the rear and sometimes they are not... do you know more about that.
and yep, it should have been into general racing talk... sorry.. maybe someone can move this *g*
with paint on it, it does not look THAT different though: http://www.jayski.com/schemes/2006/COT.htm
despite the wing and the splitter. (okay they are higher as well and slower... but... with paint on them...)
BTW, to that cost thing:
COT - Did You Know? from a David Newton article at ESPN.com:
Did you know NASCAR will pay for the rear wings used on the new Car of Tomorrow, then distribute them at the track and collect them after each race?
Main article: Car of Tomorrow
The "Car of Tomorrow" is now in the final stages of development. This car has focused mainly on safety, with the driver's seat being moved closer to the center of the car. The car's width has been increased by 4 inches, the front bumper has been re-designed to virtually eliminate bump-drafting, and the height of the car has increased to accommodate taller drivers. The most noticeable change to fans will be the addition of a rear wing. The spoiler currently used will be removed. NASCAR will distribute the wings like they issue restrictor plates [1]. This car's first scheduled race is the 2007 Bristol NEXTEL Cup series race, aside from Bristol events, drivers will use the Car of Tomorrow in 2007 events at Phoenix International Raceway, Martinsville Speedway, Richmond International Raceway, Dover International Speedway and New Hampshire International Speedway. It also will see action at Darlington Raceway, the fall event at Talladega Superspeedway and road-course events at Infineon Raceway and Watkins Glen International. The Car of Tomorrow will be used at all races by 2009.
ah okay. could be cool but i don't want to hear some random noob shouting at me so i would mute that on public server and use fm-vent... yep but for events it would make life much easier...
yep, thats true, they will follow the ideal line or try to improve it with speeding and braking points. but thats the point. if this part is learnable, then it may be possible to hardcode that softcode as well...
so it might be possible BUT they will try to improve that new "hardcoded" thing as well, so it needs a way they don't learn again anything...
