Quote from franky500 :It seems to make no difference at all.

It's weird. I can get onto the GURU servers no problem at all, and they use low port numbers. I still can't get onto our 500servers.com server though, unless i'm up until 3am.

I've contacted my ISP about it again, they might be able to shed some light.

Quote from franky500 :For the next month or so new servers with 500servers.com will now have a port range of 22011 - 29999 lets see if it makes a difference.

Franky - any news on whether or not this works? I'm still having the same issue I had a good few months ago (there's a post on your forums) and I can't even race on my own server :-( I can get onto the Redline Racing servers easy enough however.

My ISP was unable to solve nothing; I might start badgering them again.

Quote from Der_Dude :According to your post, the server should be online for practice. But i can't find a server with "WOT" in the name... Is something wrong?

There seems to be an issue with 500servers.com and servers not being displayed in the master list. If you just directly connect to WOT.Racing using the password you will find us

I'm having a lot of problems emailing some of you who sent me their details so that I can send out the password, unfortunately. It looks to be a problem on my end.

So I've added the server password to the original post; sorry, but if anyone joins who's not on the entrant list, they shall be kicked.

Also, we shall be running the alternative race format tomorrow, details of which are in the first post.

Happy racing!

Quote from Der_Dude :Hi, my teammate (p.maishaupt) an me (Der_Dude) are thinking about joining your race. Therefore we have a question: You say the qualifying starts at 4pm GMT. My LFS shows me UTC, which might not be the same right now. To make things more complicated the State of the USA i live in (Nem Mexico) starts Daylight-savings time this weekend. Anyways, please confirm a scheduled qualifying time in reference to the UTC time of LFS. Then we can make a decision whether to enter the race or not. Thanx in advance!

We would prefer the three hour race with driver change, just becaus we haven't done that yet. If you decide to race only two hours we probably would run seperatly.

As far as I'm aware, UTC is GMT (ie: UTC is formerly known as GMT). However, I believe the correct notation for the start of our qualifying notation is 1600 hours, ie: 4pm :-)

Our daylight savings stops this weekend, and I've taken that into account when deciding the times, and 4pm GMT (1600 UTC) is when it's at

Anyways, you're welcome to join. Please let me know what you decide today, so that I can draw up the entrant list and get passwords emailed out.

Hello,

I've updated the original post with server information, race times, formats and regulations. If all the entrants could read over the entire post to make sure they know exactly what is going to happen.

In particular I'm after some opinions on the alternative race format, which favours many more cars on track for a slightly shorter time.

See you all Sunday.

Is there anything to stop us using our team skin, if we're representing a team outside of the STCC? If it's modified to comply with STCC regulations, of course..

Hello,

This is another post just to encourage more people who are thinking about entering, to do so; especially if you are racing with another team mate.

It's all good fun and there's a decent prize to be won!

Team: SERT

Cya on tracks!

So is there a problem if my teammate doesn't show up... Can I race all 3h by myself in that case (have never tried before but could be interesting)?

P.S. I sent an email with our contact emails.

Thanks for your entry, I replied to your mail.

Yes you can race the entire three hours yourself. Also, it's entirely up to you and your team mate how you divide up the racing time (2/3 stints each, etc).

No problem, i've added you to the entrant list.

Could you provide an email address for one or both of you, so I can get the server password to you? My address is [email protected]

There's a couple of racers from our team who may be looking for a partner, their still unsure whether or not they want to do it solo but i'll forward your name anyway.

Any other takers for this? We're still after quite a few entrants; without a decent crowd I'm afraid to say the event won't go ahead at all

Race Information
Here are the official details for the race to be run on Sunday:
  • The first qualifying session will begin promptly at 4pm GMT on Sunday 29th of October 2006. No exceptions.
  • The track will be open for free practice at 3pm GMT, which is of course an optional session.
  • There are to be two 15 minute qualifying sessions, one for each team mate. The time that determines your place on the grid is the average of the two sessions. If you are running the race solo, then you can enter one or both of the sessions and your grid time with either be your time from the single session or an average respectively.
  • There will be a 15 minute break between the end of the second qualifying session and the start of the race. The track will still be open for last minute adjustments should you so wish, but I'd encourage you to take a break from the screen for a bit, as it will be a long race for most.
  • The grid will be configured manually, and so this will require everyone's cooperation in the lobby whilst we get everyone added to the grid. If someone is away from their machine at this time and doesn't respond when they should add themselves to the grid, they will miss their grid slot.
  • The race will then commence, and will run for 2 hours (see 'Alternative Format' below)
  • We are encouraging everyone to race, not in a driver-swap format like we originally planned (again, see the Alternate format. However, you can still swap drivers if you so wish.
  • The winning team will receive a 1 years 'Silver plan' webhosting kindly donated by Byethost.com
Race regulations
  • No resetting or shift+s, if you end up in a state where you can't continue your race is over.
  • Mid-race join is turned off.
  • No penalties for chatting, everyone has the option to block messages after all.
  • Any abuse towards other drivers, either on the track or in chat will be kicked.
  • Any messing around on track in the race (doughnuts, wrong way driving, intentional wrecking etc will be kicked
  • After a spin, please be considerate and look around you when coming back onto the track. DO NOT just drive straight on to the circuit without regard for other drivers on the racing line. If I see anyone doing this, they will be kicked.
  • Similarly, if you drive into a yellow flag zone, be prepared for a stricken car on the track and be prepared to slow down.
Alternative Race Format
Since we have 9 teams and 16 players entering, an alternative race format we are considering is as follows:
  • A 2 hour race where everybody races at once
  • You can still opt to switch team mates if you don't feel up to racing the whole race yourself
  • The integrity of your team entrance is still intact. ie: you would still run as team mates in the race
  • The qualifying format remains the same.
This alternative format came about through a desire to have more cars on track during the race, since we didn't get as many entries as we'd hoped, but we have enough for a full field running this format. It's a choice between having a 16 cars on track in a slightly shorter (and more managable) race, or 8 cars on track for 3 hours. Please voice your opinions in this thread, before a vote is cast on race day. Personally I'm in favour of this format, as I'd prefer a busier and more exciting race.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post here or mail me directly. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

We are of course still accepting entries, so if you're interested please post here, or email me at [email protected].

Well I would say that your sensations are probably spot on and would be the same for most people; a narrower track at high speed will put hairs on your chest.

However, I would also say that I don't think the circuits in LFS particularly lack the sensation of speed..

Quote from yegadoyai :I thought that was the defaut password as it was a different password for round 4.

Yep the password changes per round, and it was emailed to you yesterday morning to your hotmail address that you registered with me. If you do not get an email from me the day before the next event is due to take place, the best thing to do is email me directly or contact us on our forums. I do try to check this forum as often as I can, but unfortunately I didn't check it in time for this one.

Sorry dude - i'll make sure you get it for next week.

Quote from whitey6272 :Id be interested in joining, if there are places left?

There are places left. There are quite a few drivers who signed up but we haven't seen them on the track, so you're welcome to their spot if you like. Just please send me an email with your lfs name, the name you will race under and the name of any team you represent.

The next round is at Blackwood GP in the XR GTR on the 12th of July - this weeks race is postponed due to the football being on.

Hope to see you on the track :-)

Quote from yegadoyai :Hey there, sorry about bailing on the race last night but I was starving. I came home from work at 5:45 jumped strait on the computer and if I's known that the practice was going to take an hour I'd have eaten then as it was I was famished by 8 and lost concentration on lap 2 or 3 (can't remember) by then I had to stop and eat. Next round I'll have eaten before the race starts.

There isn't a mandatory practice as such - all that happens is that the server is set up for the particular race at 6pm (British time) to allow cup entrants on to the track for a practice if they so wish. As long as you're there for qualifying at around 7pm you're good to go.

Obviously there's nothing to stop you practicing in your own time if you so wish.

Another appeal for more racers :-)

The rounds so far have been a blast; last night's event at FE Green produced some close battles throughout the field, and hopefully next week at South City Classic we'll get the same.

If there's anyone who wants to race, please send me an email or get in touch through our forums (links in the original post) and we'll get you added to the entrant list.
