maybe i didnt explain to well... all i wanna know is what the purpose of the wireframe is. how does it help your skin look better?

ok, i downloaded GIMP and am getting cracking at some skinning. ive downloaded kits from master skinnerz and am starting to figure out the layers thing...

What im not quite figuring out are the wirelays? ive read the explanations relating to 3D this and that, but to me, it just looks like millions of triangles!

Can anyone help?

Im really struggling with downloading GIMP. can anyone help me, i install the installation file, but when i try to run it, it tells me the setup files are corrupt or missing?

thanks, that does help, even tho its long. Anther stupid question tho, say u have your background/base colour on the bottom skin. i then add a layer, is this a blank layer again or is it a duplicate of the first layer.

How do i then get to see what the full skin will look like, ie, how do i merge all the layers? You understand what im asking? when i try create different layers and in the one layer, bumper is red, in the other layer, the doors are yellow, how do i see all these layers together?

Quote from Knight_Atack :GIMP is also a free editing program (similar to PhotoShop) and is free (wow, I said that twice). And I do believe it supports the .psd files from Master-Skinnerz. Their skin kits are a great way to skin since you have a view of the modelling of the car.

As for the rest, well, creativity and everything else. There are some "to be finished" and "base" skins found somewhere in these forums (which I forgot) and many other things. I think it's in the templates section. There's also lots of stuff over there at MS too.

And layering well... Um... What do you mean exactly?

Cool, thanks. with layers, do you use different layers to make a skin or is the entire "car" done in one layer, or is it, say, the left hand door is on one layer, then the roof on another, and maybe the bonnet on a 3rd. i dont really understand layers.
Skinning 101

being new at LFS, i have decided to see if i can do my own skinning instead of requesting things. I downloaded paint.net (because its free).

I was trying to find some good default skins with dark backgrounds and came accross masterskinnerz, however, their defaults are .psd and paint.net does not accept these...

Secondly, pls can someone briefly explain how to use layering when creating skins...

thanks

oh my...

So i race cars in real life... HnT is as natural to me as breathing... so i rigged up my old pedals this weekend and tried a bit of "non auto clutch"... what a joke... my left foot now thinks its a "braking" foot and not a "clutch" foot!

Although i played the game left foot braking on thurs eve, climbed in my race car friday morn and never missed a single gear all session!

is it just me???

The other thing, I couldnt get my config to work with HnT. im using a DFP. but when i try HnT, i cant cause the pedals are set on the same axis... any ideas?
Tyre pressuresL Low/High

ok... so im at a dillema...

Dropping tyres pressure causes more flex in the tyre and therefore more friction and therefor more heat...

Increasing tyre pressures starts the tyre at a higher pressure allowing it to build to a higher temperature...

My issue... softening a pressure to get heat is a technique for a qualifying lap as the temperatures will rise quickly and then cause overheating????????

Increasing pressures will allow the tyre to slowly build temperature and provide more consistancy over a race distance in terms of tyre wear????

Is that correct... any thoughts?

Quote from AndroidXP :Can't look now, but I'd imagine it would be something like a constant 3 to 7KB/s downstream, depending on how busy the server is. That would equal about 10 to 25MB download per hour playtime. Of course the download of skins also adds to that.

i think its the skins.. it downloads skins constantly when im playing! is there a way to turn unnecessary downloads off... although, i suppose if im very new at LFS id be downloading everyones skins, but at some stage, it'll stop downloading cause ill have downloaded most already ?!?!
Download Rates??

Hi Guys, sorry if this is in the wrong place.

But... I havent reached my bandwidth cap for many many months... one month (3 weeks actually) of LFS and i've been capped. I have increased my cap but i am just curious what the download rate (not sure if thats even the right name) is. I currently play on CTRA and live in South Africa...

thanks

Hey guys, nice to see a couple people talking real life racing.

I race in the South African production car championship. I race a Nissan 350Z for the SAM racing Dealer Team.

I raced a shelbycanam sports car last year and won the South African championship and im taking a bit of time getting used the "tin top" racing with all the Body roll...

Anywayz, i have been playing LFS for a month or so, and even tho, ive been doing most of my laps in the XFG (CTRA race 1). I thought i might be doing the wrong thing (FWD vs RWD) by racing the XFG the week before our 4th national, but i didnt struggle at all.

It definitely helped keep my eye in and i felt on it from lap 1, session 1!

Good show, love the game!!!

Quote from pacesetter :Yes, i was just saying in terms of, would that be the kind of class you could run it in ? and they are run in VdeV

I guess is would be something similar, but as far as i know, VdeV, run duratech motors and have weight limits etc. Shelby's are relatively heavy (900kgs driver and fuel).

In terms of the car itself, a little bit bigger (bulkier) that VdeV cars. I will give u more info later. My dad was going to go over and do a drive in one of their endurance races, so he'll know exactly how the cars compare.

Shelby's are also run in SA as a one make strictly controlled formula which is slightly diff to VdeV

hmmm, the WTCC seat diesel team was here testing a lil while ago, think the fastest they did was a 1m53 odd around kyalami, and the shelby's are a 1min 47... im not so sure how they compare to a juno, they run in the VdaV series in europe right?

Quote from pacesetter :oh right, that must be very quick

yeah, they are pretty quick. I am currently racing in SA production car championship (similar to BTCC) and the shelby is approx 9s a lap quicker around Kyalami (approx 4 km circuit)

They are great fun... www.shelbycanam.co.za and www.productioncars.co.za

Quote from pacesetter :what chassis is that sportscar darryn?

Its a shelby chassis. the cars were originally raced in the states with different bodies and Dodge motors. They were brough into SA and motors changed to Nissan V6 motors +-300bhp with a new fibreglass body

Quote from Thunderhead :Provide better pictures and I'll do it.

if you provide more pics of that prototype in pic number 3 I *might* make the livery of it too.*

*as long as I dont have to do them on open wheelers.

If you're keen to do something like that, i can definitely add more pics. dunno what car it would look good with. but it was quite a neat design. It was done my a graphic designer in South Africa. I won the South African sports car championship with that car so i have very fond memories. let me know if you are still keen and i can add pics.
