Quote from ORION :I hope this helps a bit:

You should better lose one minute in your life, than do something stupid and lose your whole life in one minute (like crashing your car due to speeding).

So... are you saying the surprise feature is Speed Cameras ???

Quote from DEVIL 007 :That was not the point anyway.....why they used such a strange name for that pic.It just doesnt make sense. Why they could call the picture which mean something about exciting atmosphere.

Well, if they are reading all these threads then they might have done it as a joke..... after all... isn't this an exciting atmosphere ???

Quote from Hyperactive :It's not the looks. It's about the functionality

EDIT: I just searched through the gui looking for where to change my helmet skin and to change the language. Couldn't find neither of those.

Agreed, and the LFS interface is perfectly functional

Quote from Dygear :I am starting to think that today is make or break for Live For Speed. Is this the quite before the storm, or the storm before the quite.

I don't think anything is going to break LFS...... there's nothing even close in the market today

NetKar might challenge in a year... when the bugs and user friendlyness is fixed.... and many physics patches are released!

LFS is already a great sim..... and we know it's going to get better

I found this.... could it be relevant ???

http://www.ruhanisatsangusa.org/godman/godman_8.htm

WITHOUT A GURU ALL IS DARKNESS

He converts darkness into Light

The term Guru consists of two words: Gu meaning darkness and Ru meaning Light. Hence Guru means one who can lead us from darkness to Light, from untruth to Truth, and from death to Immortality.

Sounds good

It is going to be LIGHTS !!!!

Quote from ajp71 :Is this still a problem what does it matter how a sim behaves once your car is upside down?

This happened to me when trying the demo!

I think the feeling when driving the demo car is nice, and I'm sure the sim will get much better in the long run and I'll probably buy it when I see everyone appears to be happy with it and online works for everybody .

But, there are quite a few oddities with the physics.... many have been mentioned before, but the most obvious one is the ability to drive the car when it's upside down!

The top of the car dissapears under the grass/tarmac and the wheels sit on the ground when inverter... allowing you to drive !

This isn't exactly realistic, and if the body of the car can go underground it makes you wonder about the rest of the physics/collision system!

Although Kid seems to go to extremes... He does have a point in this respect!

A lot of posts just from the 1 review

I didn't read the review.... I see no point in it for me.

LFS for me is the best experience I've ever had on a computer, it's not the graphics, sound, physics etc that does it for me, it's the whole package. The fun, excitement, frustration, determination.... you can go through many emotions and states whilst racing online

Even when LFS is finished it won't score as highly as the more mainstream titles if it's still independant. Companies like EA can release complete rubbish and it gets to No. 1... work it out

The only way LFS will become mainstream and get the best reviews and millions of players is to have it published by one of the big boys, who mostly market products that look and sound fantastic but can have the playability of concrete football boots

But LFS can still become the winner (Is it a competition?) ... once the Physics are near-perfect (You can't totally simulate the real thing!) and the graphics and sound are competing with the rest then word of mouth and the fact that it can be downloaded and tried out online in demo mode might be enough.

The problem....

What the LFS hardcore (me too ) must realise is that if review of LFS are fantastic, 10/10 or whatever, then millions of first-timers will be swamping your bloved servers and creating havoc!!!

We'll have to lock down our servers and have private races for a long time, if not for ever !!!

I vote for bad reviews... and then only hardcore simulation drivers will join the LFS ranks and we'll have even better clean races

My main point is this.... If you love LFS, enjoy it!

Quote from Scawen :Woohoo! It works!

Temporary units from old kitchen helping to support the worktop for now, until we make the real cupboards and the nice supports for the front of the worktop. Rear and sides are supported by batons.

Nice Dynamic lighting in that shot, and very nice textures

From Scawens love of pipes and water, can we infer that we'll have a stunt track with half pipes etc ? and Dynamic weather (Rain) ? soon

Quote from Gentlefoot :Found LFS desktop yesterday too. How cool is that! The more I find out about this game the better I think it is! Just wondering how often it updates the results though. Nothing there for my new personal best round Westhill (1:59). Can anyone tell me?

I'm still a noob with this game, but I think the PB's are updated almost immediately..... but you only record online times...!

Were you racing offline at Westhill ?

Nice bit of plastering there Scawen got a number ?

I like the Kitchen Cupboard 'mod' to get the washing machine in I've done similar mods in the past

All you need now are some cupboards and worktop! Are you going to use your skills to make some custom ones, or you going down the MFI route ?

Either way, can't wait for the finished article

Why don't you fit a PC with nice LCD into one of the cupboards? Then you can keep coding even when making lunch

Engine damage (all damage!) is a good thing, but it needs to be server specific setting.

Then the stunt boys have no problems, and everyone who wants the most realism can have it!

There is no easy way to syop this without the developers changing the program in some way, maybe loading skins on the fly and never downloading them to a HD.

Even then you could read the memory and capture the skin if your good

Is this so much of an issue ? The skin 'lifter' may soon get bored and go rip another skin and what is the point of running with another teams skin ?

The banning mechanism should be used if people are really upset about this.

Quote from sinbad :If the devs programmed in a "real-pit-crew" mode/option so that real team-mates online are the ones screwing up and costing me 30 seconds then I would welcome it.

I'm interested to know who's going to be your pit crew ?

I just can't get excited about the idea of spinning my mouse in circles to undo the wheel nut, and then the other way to do it up again, after changing the wheel....

or maybe it's just me

Although Panel beating might be more up my street, right click to dent a panel and left click to pull it !!!

I just don't think 'Virtual Mechanic' would take off.......

This thread, and the plumbing thread are absolutely gripping...... who needs TV / FILM / RADIO ? The action is here

Thanks for the insights into your 'normal' life Scawen I hope the kitchen turns out very nicely..... I'm a fan of re-plastering... such a nice finish when painted (Especially white ceilings, can look awful if not flat !!!)

Do you have a lot of decorating to do ? Maybe the best way the community can help to develop LFS is to arrange a meet at Scawen's and bring own overalls and tools Mines a paintbrush !

We could help to make Scawen's environment as programmer friendly as possible.... nice pastel colours etc

Seriously though, Great thread, Great Sim, Great Plumbing !

Nice to know you are also a chippie if we all come round to help you can supply the food ! I'll have Haddock and Chips with Mushy peas

really Flawed attempt, creating terrible online racing j/k

I can't even run this game, but very happy with LFS so not too bothered

IMO It's not the different features that are important, it's the feeling you get from online races and in LFS that feeling is superb!
