Quote from geeman1 :It just means they don't have an opinion. People who don't have opinions still vote on polls though.
Polls are quite useless in improvement suggestions. The end result is almost always 'yes', unless it's something really silly or stupid. The result does not mean anything anyway, the devs don't choose suggestions by poll votes. It's more important to have constructive discussion why this idea is good or bad than to gather tons of people saying 'yes'.

Never looked at it that way... Anyway, I think you're right. And now .. Better hurry and edit my post before a mod sees the request.

Quote from scipy :Dashboard lights look decent in xfg/xrg.. but in GTR cars they just look like a stream of water brought them in. You could at least separate the left and right indicator lights and make everyhting not-so-huge and out-of-place.

To me it doesn't look huge at all and certainly not out of place.

I think I'll add a poll for this, since most of the lfs users just come, take a look and exit without commenting, but if they see a poll they usually vote.

...just tried to edit the original post, but I can't find a way to add a poll? Is it me, or is it disabled?
If it's disabled then maybe a mod can add a simple poll like: "Do you like this suggestion | Yes/No/Can't decide", and I think I want that public(the poll results I mean).

Nevermind, I don't want a poll anymore.

You say we should move on, but you seem to be stuck in here. The threads I look at is the ones that are answered in my UCP. And I rarely open up random threads to post comments. By the way: You can re-read your posts too.

Anyway, I'm not going to say anything more, because we can go like this forever(or at least till the thread gets too rude and gets closed) and I have better things to do at the moment. Bye and have a nice day.

Quote from BigTime :You took the rejection harder than the video maker himself. He's probably learning from this while you just wanna jump around from thread to thread and raise hell.

The point you seem to fail to understand is that nether of us have special affiliation with this thread. If however, you would make a post, state your opinion, and move on, none of this would be said. I understand Squidhead can be a bit harsh, but this isn't you video to defend... The video creator would probably appreciate it if you just moved on. Besides, although squid is harsh, if the creator listens to him his videos will improve.

If you think that all you have to do is state your opinion and move on, then you could have done it.

And, no, I don't really jump from thread to thread, but you know you said that just to try to make your post a little more nasty ...just as I did with the line above

It's not my video, but rep is a person I respect; the video is made for "my" server(I actually hate to say such things, cause it feels like pure bragging... but after I have to explain the situation I will), and so I would actually prefer comments that contain more explanations than flaming. That's it.

My idea of this is that if there are cars on the track, it would be a logical conclusion that they do receive damage, and have a suspension model. But then, yes, I think Bob is right - we would at least need a limit for the cars on track or to lower the connections each time a car is added(which would actually be kinda sucky).

So, what if some global limit on this is 100, and let the hosts have an option like /maxlytcars=XX, so that they will be able to keep their servers lag free. I guess that 100 is too much, but it comes from the idea that someone might just want to make a temporary server only so he/she can have fun with lots of cars placed or make a training course from cars only, or whatever more they want to do.

It would also be awesome if we could specify if we want the cars with wheels blocked or not, but I don't know how hard that would be from coding side..

Quote from BigTime :You are the one that over reacted and turned this into a holy war. You came into a thread that you have no affiliation with, and basically proceeded to tell everyone and his brother that they are ****s for criticizing his works. Now would you rather have people come in and post smileys and "good effort" comments to make you feel better, or have people point out flaws that you could improve in your next works?

I don't have any affiliation with the thread? I think that you don't know what you're talking about, mate. I'll let you think that over one more time when you get more facts. I can even say that it's you who has nothing to do with it.

And I don't know if you can tell which replies are more flaming than describing what's wrong with *something*.. Take a look at LFSn00b's reply - no flaming, just explaining what can be improved and how. Now that's a reply I liked. Your answer is not too harsh either, so I guess you know how to find the limit for a nice reply.. But I can just guess.
Cars as lyt objects?

So, my suggestion is all of the LFS cars to be added as layout objects, and let us put them as obstacles. IMO, it would be good, because the cars would be a nice way to stop people, instead of barriers that would make them fly away. Also the cars are not small, so they can save a few objects too.

And I don't know if it would be too hard to do, but since cars can already be spawned when people join the race, why not make it similar to that method, but using a button from the AutoX objects list.. Anyway I can't really guess how it could be made.

From that I guess we will need to specify how would the car will be spawned.. I mean hbrake on/off, etc.., or maybe just with their wheels always blocked.

Sorry, if it has been suggested before, but I couldn't seem to find anything like it.

Quote from teedot :Pretty useless post if you don't describe what the problem is. And yeah, 2.2MB screenshot.. why?

And your post isn't useless? 1st: You can see the problem in the screenshot. 2nd: You know there's no real reason for the screenshot to be 2.2MB. I guess he just made a png file to save the quality(which is one of my habbits too when saving a pic or something). 3rd: If you wanna start a flame war, go to another forum, please.

Quote from CLRS530 :Regarding big Connection lists

An option or static change to very big connection lists would be to create a multi page list. That's a point no one mentioned yet as far as I see. Surely there only would be max 2 or 3 pages.
To step through the pages there could be a new button or simple press the button more then one time.
I don't think this would lead to misunderstandings because the page number at the bottom is intuitive from many other applications and the web. This system could be programmed to be really dynamic:

- Use multi page or not
- use same key or another
- number of entries per page

If you are planning to change the list keep those points in mind:

- Order players outside the box before players in the box + spectators (important for admins I guess)

shift+key to show/hide the mouse is the best solution, combined with the N button you don't have to move the map to the left to navigate to a user ..and just by simply using N again, you can bring up the connections list and take the appropriate actions.

Anyway I have another idea: In order that the navigation between racers is better, why not make it, so when you are spectating someone, it would use a different background for that same racer in the connections list (while we're at the connection list discussion :razz.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :A sort option would be best, I think. Click once to sort by alpha, click again to sort by connection order. Something like that.

IMO, it would be better once again with a shift+key, instead a button on the connections list itself (if I got you right).

Quote from SmegFirk :Do you not misunderstand slightly? We are solely talking about the connection list, (with kick/ban/ss/etc) not the race order list. Having the connection list rearranging itself every time somebody overtakes somebody else (which I think is what you are suggesting?) I imagine would be a nightmare.

I also imagine it would be more work. Currently the list will only update itself and data be sent backwards and forwards when somebody joins/disconnects. I would not like it to be "live"

The connection list has no bearing on people's position during a race.

I don't think that the list has to be "live". You get people's positions anyway, and I don't know about their ping(I guess you do from the bars on the bottom that constantly update; not that I know their purpose on 100%). So the solution would be to create new buttons when someone overtakes, overriding the old ones, IF this can be made as easy as I think(atm I imagine an insim app, where you replace a button by sending one with the same click id ).

If it's not worth the effort, then my opinion is to stay only alphabetically updated.

+1 for alphabetical sorting from me too. Would be cool.

I guess it's my mistake then. And, yes, a scroll bar would be a good solution... but... it's not worth the effort, I think.

E: Well it seems like I was dumb enough not to remember what I said 5minutes ago. But thanks to Scawen, now we have 1 solution for 2 "problems".

Quote from Bean0 :This is quite easily solved by having the map on the left rather than the right.

It is not solved, it is avoided. To be solved, a solution has to be thought of for the devs to work it out, but I can't think of anything.

Space bar is usable in controls, and I personally am using it.
Not to break LFS' tradition - something with shift in front would be good, no matter what it would be.

Quote from N.OzolS :First of all, that might just be me. I usually use the chase view, and drive with mouse visible (connections list visible), its easier like that, for me (but i cant view stuff like F9 and so). Maybe it would be nice to have a binded key to show the cursor any time (or hide it)?

Yeah, that would be good. Like Shift+M (if not taken already), or just by an option in the menu(probably in misc). I would like such thing, because when I drive in LFS on windowed mode, I often go out of the screen(when I can't see the position of the mouse) and then when I maximize it again - you can guess what happens. I would also like it if mouse clipping space is lowered so you can't actually reach the edge of the window and change it's size.

Anyway, if it's harder to make then it could wait till there's more free time for minor things like that.

Quote from Blas89 :Should be fun to drive while being drunk... I might try it!
Thing is... I never get drunk at home

Same here, except when I come home after a party, after which I usually open up the 10000(3 if I have to be exact) chat programs to check who's online, and then if I find no one interesting I usually go to sleep.

It happens really rare that I open LFS while drunk. But it was fun when I did (iirc ).

Quote from dadge :**critic**
•a person who is professionally engaged in the analysis and interpretation of works of art
•anyone who expresses a reasoned judgment of something

if you don't want someones opinion then don't ask for it.
if he had called the thread "fast slideshow ad" then it would of been good.

I didn't really remember wanting anyone's opinion on anything in this thread. In fact all I did was to say my opinion too. And "fast slideshow ad" - Admit it, you people just like to over-react, and right now you're doing it only because you want to make his work look bad. He spent time and effort to make this movie, and all you're doing is to grab tightly to that fps problem(which is only because of his PC) and (as we say in Bulgaria) make an elephant out of a fly.

Quote from speed1230 :And most of the critics didn't notice?:

I smell flaming coming, and I'm the victim

Edit: Why did I just waste about 8 weeks making this video?
I hate myself now >.<

These "critics" seem to me like are only looking how to flame and "bash"(as said in someone's siggy iirc) lfs videos.

You did a good video. Everyone that races in OsR liked it so far, so nothing to worry about. Just some people that you have never met and are trying to ruin other people's excitement and motivation about something they are new in. So just let them say whatever they wanna say. Who says these "critics" are always right anyway? As we saw most of them notice and comment only parts from the videos and the replies that they like to, ignoring the rest.

And look at it from this way: It's the best video made for -OsR- so far (I bet someone will pick this part too, or maybe not after I already guessed so). So why worry?.

Quote from Gekkibi :Almost every famous MP game uses steam/live etc too.

-1, because you can easily sort the servers. Like said earlier: Your computer would still ping the servers, so you don't save any time at all (And selecting the right parameters takes time).

Well, the suggestion isn't about steam or live support or whatever.
And imo, it would help you get a shorter list. Ok, maybe your PC will spend another second arranging the info, but the list will be picked for your likings.

1st: I said to give him some motivation, not to say "it was so awesome" etc.. Maybe say something like "it's good for start but you can also try to improve thing 1 and thing 2" or something similar than just saying "the problem makes it unwatchable".

2nd: He said it didn't work out. Maybe he didn't have enough time.

3rd: Yeah, sorry, I was too harsh. Some times I just say senseless cr*p, usually depending on the day. I hate myself sometimes when I've been too rude.

Quote from squidhead :Synced? You got no idea what you're talking about don't you?

Synchronization as a word can be used in many ways. I mean that it's well synchronized with the movie "stages".

Quote from squidhead :I bet I can make the video with more FPS on a PC half as powerful as his. I pulled off 40 fps videos on a 2.8 single core Pentium with a 8600GT graphics card. Hardly space age technology

Firstly, that's not a bad PC at all.. Also I said that they were made from a normal person, who has a bare idea of how to make a video(no offense intended ). As we all see you seem to have more experience, yes, so you can do it better. He still tried tho, and it was liked in between the community that was made for. Also he needs motivation, people to tell him that he's going good as for start, not just some guys to jump on him saying "it's unwatchable, because of that and that" or something similar.

Quote from squidhead :No you haven't and no you haven't.
Proof : Recording with the method specified in the tutorial sacrifices the game sounds... which you still have

About your "proof"... How could you prove something, after you can't really know. You haven't been watching him while he was trying to do it, have you? Maybe it didn't work out and he didn't put it in youtube(which I have to say is a smarter decision than editing it and instantly putting on a video site so everyone can see that it really did fail).

Quote from squidhead :Now for the event you've all been waiting for, Squid appears as his regular self :

You must think that you're very famous, so that everyone would expect something from you? I wasn't actually expecting that you would say such thing and speak for yourself in 3rd person, and after I saw your age I was even more surprised.
IMHO, you need medical attention.

So none of you wants to let go the fps problem and just watch the video? It has many many good sides. There are a few of them: music is well picked and synchronized; there is useful information on what the server is mainly about; there is a little feeling of humor, but just as much so you won't feel it like it's a joke, but more like a serious server; camera movement is not too sudden and it's well placed... plus, that's not all, but you will see all the other good sides if you just watch the video.

Well as for the short ad: I did have some notes, but they were all cleared up in the long one.

And one more fact I can't just pass by: They weren't made from a professional with a PC from outer-space, but from a normal person with an average computer, and the video is still well balanced.
