Be warned, this track is truly evil. I've done a few laps. There's only 4 corner complexes, but you can lose control through virtually all of them. Should make the race interesting though!

I've only managed 39.85, so I may be towards the rear of these races ... but ready to pick up places if those corners bite

Quote from Gentlefoot :Super Aguri will not be able to punch above their weight again this year as they are gonna be using Honda's dreadful RA107. Force India will finish ahead this year I think.

I'd forgotten about that. Poor Super Aguri, last year they were beating Honda by using the 2006 Honda as their base. But now they're using the 2007 model for this season ... life has its ups and downs

High Mid field:

Honda

I agree with your view, except for Honda. High Mid field?!!! The only way that would be possible is if they've got some insider information about the Ferrari ....

Given their recent history, and the arrival of Ross Brawn not being until the end of last season (ie long after he would have any influence over the 2008 car), I can't see such a dramatic improvement. I would put them at the back of the Midfield bunch. Might see an improvement during the season, as according to the literature their car has been built with a view to having great scope for within season development - unlike the 2007 car.

I had a fantastic start to the session. In my practice beforehand I managed a couple of low 1:55s, and thought that was as good as I could do. Then somehow up popped a 1:54.44 in the real qualifying. I have no idea where that one came from, but it gave me a 7th place start.

Then at the start I slipped between 2 lumbering FZ5s into 4th place for the first corner. I was really happy to be there, and happy that the cars around me weren't pulling away at any great pace (except Hannu!) But that was as good as it got, as I knew I had qualified at a pace that didn't represent my true race pace.

The first few racers to pass I let through quite easily. It would have been pointless to try to defend, and would only have wasted some time. Everything went well except for de Souza, who I think was caught out as I slowed for the final right hander. Later on I was less easy on anybody passing. My pace was better than expected, but even so I only finished in 11th position. After the excellent start I was hoping for a top 10, but I guess 11th is a lot better than normal for me.

Unfortunately I saw Ghost take a spin at the first chicane when he was approaching to lap me. I had the blue flag showing, but he was too far behind coming up to the chicane for me to pull over. I decided to get through the chicane and let him pass on the next straight before the following chicane. As I exited the chicane I saw him spin onto the grass. I hope that he wasn't distracted by me.

Anyhow, it was an excellent event. I'm glad there's only one race of this length in the season though. Fun as it was, it was very tiring.

I'm looking forward to the challenge of completing 48 laps without incident ... well, 47, given that I'm sure to be lapped. I'm getting consistently into the 1:56s on race fuel. I'm hoping that'll be enough to stay in contention with the back of the pack.

Does anybody know if the RAC tyres will last the whole distance?

I enjoyed that too. Thank you for being patient .

I didn't finish either race particularly well, but I had some good racing.

GFresh was displaying some excellent control in race 1. We had quite a few laps together, passing each other a few times before my pace dropped off. I really enjoyed that.

I felt sorry for Serp on lap 4. You were slow coming out of the corner before the last chicane, and I had the momentum to get alongside. We touched wheels at the left kink, before I moved ahead into the chicane and you couldn't slow in time. I've watched the replay a few times from different angles to understand what happened. It appears that I was expecting you to be taking the kink a bit closer to the kerb, but perhaps you were aware of GFresh coming up your inside. Overall I think that I made the move correctly. I'd be interested to hear your view though.

Race 2 started well from 2nd on the grid, and I had an great time defending against M.Sonntag, then GFresh again - although by now he had learnt where to overtake me! Made some silly mistakes later, and finished well down the order. Still enjoyed the racing though.

Well done to Dan for managing the evening so well.

@MijnWraak, what I said makes sense to me

At the last event, Dan stated that drivers should not cross the pit exit line amidst a lot of chatter during the practice before the quali started. I noticed it, but I could see that not everybody would have seen it. I just wanted this communication to be stated in a way that everybody would receive.

@Dan, I've only raised this because when we were at South City you were very relaxed about the pit line being crossed, I think because the exit was so narrow. It'll avoid any issues if we know cars exiting the pits will stay over to the right on this track.

Quote from tristancliffe :Depends if you believe the polititians (who we all know lie), or choose to look at the facts yourself. The simple thing is we are discovering more oil, coal and gas every day, and our KNOWN reserves have remained roughly constant for the last 50 years. Nuclear power is being expanded, and other decent forms of electricity are being worked on.

Don't worry, I have never believed a politician. Equally I have never believed that fossil fuels are anything but a finite resource when they are extracted at current rates. If you were in a position to strategically manage the world for the next 500 years, would you allow the population to plunder all the resources in the shortest possible time? Only a sadist would opt for that route.

I wouldn't classify nuclear as a 'decent form of electricity', but I'll leave that one for now.

Be interested to understand how geothermal heat generation, tidal power, wind power and solar heating can be so destructive. I'm always open to new thinking, but I'm not convinced by your argument yet.

With finite resources on this planet, that is perhaps not the best way of living. We could do so much more to ensure there is a legacy.

Why oh why is the focus still on performance? With all the environmental problems that we have, why is it that even a progressive manufacturer like this still has to promote the sporting characteristics? What is so wrong about focussing on maximising the energy conservation, using narrower tyres, or using gearing that maximises efficiency within the speed limit?

Quote from danowat :I would say that the yellow line should be avoided at all costs, of course, mistakes will happen, but any obvious yellow line cutting will be deemed as a breach.

Could you please announce this just prior to the start of the race when everyone is paying attention? At the last race I saw at least 1 driver ignore the yellow line on pit exit to get straight onto the banking, despite your announcement before the race.

Well, I've got my time just a whisker under 44. Looks like that's not going to be quick enough for a serious position in race 1, but with any luck may be ok in race 2 if I can start near the front.

Apart from the lack of passing places, I think this is a good track for a sprint race. There's enough corners where a mistake could be made, yet if you react appropriately you can usually avoid damage.

I like the 12 lap limit, truely restricted by counting laps as soon as the 1st split is reached (excluding the outlap). My reasons are:
  1. More pressure to perform
  2. More strategic thinking necessary to decide how many laps per qualifying run
I don't think the overall qualifying order will be much different to those achieved with the old qualifying format, but there is potential for some surprises at the individual level - overachievements as well as underachievements.

It will certainly be very interesting to observe how drivers approach the qualifying, and how they perform under pressure as the number of available laps diminish. Armed with LFS Remote, qualifying will become an interesting spectator sport.

Sounds risky, and according to lfsworld stats your fuel usage would indicate 102.24%.

Mind you, you could always do a splash and dash if the fuel did run low. The last bit is also downhill ...

Given all the comments about FZ5 tyres, I wouldn't think anybody would got the distance without pitting. The fuel consumption for FZ5 appears to be about 2.12 - 2.13%, so it looks like a fuel stop would be needed.

I'm actually encouraged by my short practice so far. 9 online laps, and a best of 1:56.02. It helps not carrying 50kg ballast like I erroneously did before the last race! Hopefully with a bit more practice I'll actually be at midfield pace, especially if the FZ's are cruising to conserve their tyres.

Quote from Sheepyfun :everybody write down what he like or want here

That's what I did

Don't get me wrong. I do like races with pitstops. Since patch Y the tyres do not last so well for some of the cars, therefore there will be some races where pitting will be necessary or advantageous in any case. I'm just not in favour of artificially saying that you must stop. If you do that and ordinarily the car would last the distance, anybody near the back of the grid would be advised to stop on lap 2, get clear track, and just push from there. Avoids being slowed by other cars in the early laps, and the risks when overtaking. Doesn't work if everyone does it though

Quote from niall09 :Is this even a LFS team? I dont see anything on the website about LFS, nor do i see your own name on the website

There is an LFS section in the TBR forum, but you cannot view anything within the forum unless you register. I registered, but still do not have the necessary access. How do we find out what the team is doing within LFS?

Many thanks.

Quote from Sheepyfun :at first i like the "Mandatory pitstop" so it would be nice if its on the season

I'm not keen on that idea. I like pitstops where the racing conditions require, like due to tyre wear or fuel constraints, but not as mandatory.

With a mandatory pitstop you never really know what position you are until towards the end. It is also a method if used strategically to get a clear track rather than having close racing and overtaking on the track.

Crazy business model, but they've obviously done their research and believe there is a market at that price.

Some people may be willing to pay $156 for every year they play the game, plus paying for additional content. Quite how they expect to build a viable online community at that price I do not know. Their target appears to be the American market, and I don't think there will be much traction elsewhere.

On Wikipedia there is a good article comparing the different racing simulators, including Nascar 2003 and LFS. I'm sure we'll see whether there has been much improvement on Nascar 2003 once iracing has eventually launched and this article has been updated, rather paying $20 for the pleasure.

Ermm, quote from your team's rules and regulations:

Focus

Many teams fall at the first hurdle because they lack discipline. You are required to finish what you started. Dropping out of leagues because of sudden lack of interest is not applauded and without a valid reason will have consequences.
