Yes, thanks, that helps, I never noticed that option, feel kinda stupid now.
Still weird that it would affect other applications, but as long as it can be disabled altogether it's fine by me...
Windowed mode mouse access bug
AutoPilot
S2 licensed
I'm probably a very rare case, but I always play in windowed mode. When I start LFS, it's never maximised by default. Since (I believe) patch Y the mouse pointer cannot get outside LFS window. Not even if I Alt-Tab to another application while LFS is still active and not minimised (minimising will allow mouse access to the whole desktop). The most annoying case is when I maximise the LFS window, which is how I normally play, I cannot access the taskbar with a mouse unless I minimise the LFS window; this definitely wasn't the case prior to Y.

I hope I made it clear - I would post some screenshots, but I couldn't figure out how to get a screenshot with a mouse pointer in it (lol, never noticed that), and it's stupid without it.

Kurent and kalev are right: the riddle as stated in the first post is flawed. And it's NOT logically the same as the one in that TechADE's link: that one explicitly tells you that knowing the product and sum is not enough. This one doesn't and it's wrong to make further assumptions just because there's no unique solution otherwise. I've seen that riddle before, the teacher, or the author of the 1st post, simply didn't state/copy it correctly.

If he's buying the parts online, why couldn't he buy the parts in the local store instead of prebuilt? That's what I do...

Well, I was talking about Canada here since he lives there. I always look up on the internet the online prices and go to the store and buy it. The price is invariably the same. That's also true for the store he mentioned there. And they charge for shipping and have discounts for cash.

Stang; You get where I'm coming from. I know for something I priced online at $1,000 will cost me well over $1,500 locally. That is even if I can get the same parts.

I don't understand this. The prices online and in the physical store are the same. And even if the shipping is free, a lot of cheap places have discounts for paying with cash/debit that you normally can't get online.

Canadacomputers.com is pretty ok pricewise, though I prefer www.filtechcomputer.com and www.pccanada.com if the prices are similar, as I have good experience with them. There's a website www.torontopcstores.com that has reviews, sort of, more like a list of stores and people posting experiences with them.

Upload the best lap here and people can take a look at it. If it's valid, any one of us can try uploading it too.

That's strange. Are you sure that those faster laps are HLVC ok?
Hotlap rankings and other stuff
AutoPilot
S2 licensed
If there are 2 people with the same time, the person who uploaded his lap first will rank higher in the charts. This seems fair and logical. But the points they earn for nations ranking are randomly distributed between the two, and it changes randomly too. E.g. on So sprint with XRG, I have the same time as Harad. Sometimes Croatia gets 2 points, sometimes 3. I noticed it on MHR, nutter rank is probably affected too, maybe even wr counts.

Another thing - what's the reason that Croatia is listed with its local name in round brackets (Hrvatska)? There are other countries whose local names are significantly different from their English terms (Hungary/Magyarország, Austria/Österreich, Germany/Deutschland to name a few), so I'm just wondering why is Croatia being singled out like this...

I don't want to open another topic, so I'm gonna report it here: user Welder has a lap on Bl gp with XRT 1.25.x around 30th place. It's not a great lap or anything, but seems like he cheated - the replay goes OOS right at the start. This "low profile" cheating worries me a bit. I only found it by accident playing with a tool and noticing he has a 2nd sector 0.2s better than the WR and not in proportion with the overall time.

Quote from ajp71 :Blueflame's actually got a point (for once ) road car speedos are not accurate and legally can over read by up to 10%. At least the speedos in LFS still read accurately.

If it's doing it consistently, which normally is the case for RL cars, then it's just a matter of scaling and units. I don't care if it shows 160kph whenever the real speed is 150kph, as long as it's not sometimes 160, sometimes 140. You can think about it like it gives the correct speed of 160 of some units per hour.

And I would like the digital speedo back too. Or an analogue which can be read clearly. RL racers have a much better sense of speed, and they can usually see the speedo accurately. I think it's a valid compromise. This way people with big monitors have an advantage.

One of the events in the OPS league was XRR on As gp, 27 laps, the longest race in the calendar. Right at the start of the race in T1 I was on the outside, just behind Alles I think. I underestimated the draft effect while braking and caught the sand, spun, and couldn't get out of the sand. And so I finished the race after ~30s. Btw, did I mention that the race was covered on TV

Tell me one chicane in LFS that you DON'T go flat out through (except SO Classic).

Bl gp rev, the first chicane. With XRT and probably many other cars, you have to brake at the entrance, then full throttle and brake for the 2nd, much slower, exit corner.

Quote from mrodgers :
Remove each of those chicanes and does anything change? Nope.

In many chicanes the weight of the car will be at the same side where you will be turning next, look at the above example, or as north rev after the 1st split. Can you tell me how can that happen with single corners? Because the quick weight transfer definitely changes things for me.

Quote from BlueFlame :Try to get as close to a WR as you can with the RACE_S setup with the XRT, then you tell me its not down to setups.. thats like 1 even 2 seconds off the pace

Spikee was driving RACE_S on bl gp with XRT for a while. He got it to high 23.x I believe, and that was less than 0.5s from his PB. I'm pretty sure Svemirko Joca could do mid 23 with it. So you can't blame 1-2 sec only on the set; the original 0.5s estimate is pretty accurate in this case, I'd say.

Too much understeer on a fast track... I think I will build up a totally new set unless I have a WR

Try the one from squassel for Ky Nat. It's the only set I've come across that is quite manageable at turn in under braking, and having LSD it's great at turn exit under power. It's a good starting point at least - my hotlap there was done with a not-that-big mod of that set. Actually all my hotlaps with RAC were done with mods of that set.

I'm pretty sure this guy wasn't an admin. The behaviour and very poor car control - not something I would expect from an admin.

I just remembered something that might matter: voting to kick/ban was disabled on the server.
Wrong Way - kick
AutoPilot
S2 licensed
I couldn't find that someone reported it, so:

I was on a server and a guy was going the wrong way. And there was a message "Driver - WRONG WAY - KICK". But the driver didn't get kicked and took me out . I still have the replay if it's needed.
Not sure if the server was X or X2 or whether wrong way driving was set to autokick. Still, it should either kick the driver, or not show the message. Or does the driver need to go like a whole lap to trigger it?

Quote from SamH :I just can't believe, after all the testing we've been doing and all the advances that Scawen has made - AND enabled us server hosts to make - in the multiplayer environment for this patch.. that a SERVER OP would turn up AFTER the patch is released to EITHER complain about Patch X's content OR make new improvement suggestions for this very same patch.

It absolutely beggars belief.

For some people patch X is the first upgrade since W and the first time they'll see the changes. You know, there *are* people who don't install test patches nor follow discussions on the test patch forum. I didn't do that for one and I'm sure there are many others. To be clear, I'm not supporting the author's whining, I like the reset system in X. But I don't quite see why it's hard to believe that some people will start complaining now.

I have a similar problem, and it definitely isn't something in the background.

For me, it actually happens under pretty special circumstances: let's say I'm going 100kph and I induce an oversteer that turns me around by 180 degrees. The speed will fall to like 50-80, but now I'm going reverse! As I brake, the speed will keep going down, and as it crosses 0kph (I'm on throttle by then) I will get a huge fall in fps rate (like <1-2). This happens about every third time, even in replays.
Not sure if it matters, but I always run LFS in windowed mode. It's hardly an issue for me, as the circumstances like above only happen when I'm warming up the tires prior to a hotlap.

Quote from evilgeek :neural nets are good for pattern recognition, but terrible at everything else, and they would require way too much cpu power to be useful in lfs.

Yep, you really need to reorganize your 'problem domain' into a 'pattern' that fits with the Neural net approach...

I would have to disagree with this (just the pattern recognition, not the CPU part). You can use them for regression problems, and they ARE regularly used for such problems. Can't really see what would be the issue and why would they be terrible. Versatile as they are, for many problems there are better approaches. I'd say here too.

this one is from the old Q patch, some of you might still have it installed. the incident happens just after my 1st split in the 1st lap (I started 1st), someone lagged but wasn't disconnected, instead, he reappeared seconds later in the middle of 2 cars and caused a total mess. the view from my car especially with virtual mirror is the only view that allows to see wth happened. I was laughing my ass off looking at the Boris Lozac's car bouncing like a toy. the view from his car is also hillarious.

+1 for biggie too. Starting from pits may be more realistic, but it's a waste of time and would make hotlapping much less attractive.
And I too don't like the 'no going backwards" rule and I'm sticking to plain U for now. I would have no objections if driving backwards would invalidate only the current hotlap.

Quote from ORION :I would bet that is caused by some firewall or another crap program. Actually all Norton programs should be forbidden - they suck

Unlikely. I use XP's firewall with just about every program I have put in the exceptions list. And if you read my case, it can't really be the firewall. The same information goes from my PC in both cases (e.g. XRR and FZR charts), just the argument for the server script is different, and only one works. Xp's and almost all other firewalls don't inspect the data payload which is the only thing I can see that will be different, so no firewall should be blocking anything.

And I don't have crap programs installed. Norton included
