Quote from Becky Rose :You are right, but...

On Firefox it shows me ads, on Avante it didn't...

Anyway I think running a league is a bad idea. Not because leagues aren't great because they are, I just dont think anyone should have to run one !

Volunteering is like giving yourself over to the Spanish Inquisition with a written statement of blasphemy. It's like walking on burning coal with your feet soaked in napalm. It's worse than ...

NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise....

Quote from Becky Rose :Oh I get page not found messages, but dude, you have been infested... Spybot/Adaware now Theres no ads on this site, and I dont think you are hallicinating.

Are you talking about Axus or Blacksheep's page? I'm running AVG's anti-spybot and didn't get a blip. I ran its manual scan along with Ad-Aware and didn't see anything, either.

The Ads Axus and I are talking about are on the page which appears whenever you click on of the buttons at the top. For instance, clicking the Home button on the page send your to the URL http://www.mpracingleague.netfast.org/www.mpracingleague.netfast.org Clicking on Join send you to http://[URL="http://www.mpracingleague.netfast.org/"]www.mpracingleague.netfast.org/www.mpracingleague.netfast.org/join.htm

Both of which send the user to an ad page. If I had to guess, this site is Hosted and the ad page is the ISP/Hoster's default for 404.

Quote from axus :So the ads by google that I saw when I clicked on rules were a figment of my imagination?

I guess we're having the same hallucinations. I get nothing bu an ad page when I click any of the information buttons. It might just be very, very poor site design. Notice the URL destination on the buttons; they're all self referencing. Odds are that the dude failed to add "http://" in the hyperlink and the web server is using document root as a starting point.

Quote from Zachary Zoomy :I'm still trying to get my STCC bronze lisence. there are too many XRGs and there's too fast for us XFGs. I tried the UF1s but they are too slow for me

UF1 is much more fun because the races are generally tighter. You can also cave in the front and run on three wheels and still be somewhat competitive.

I got my Bronze running the UF1 ~90% of the time. Still doing it while working on my Silver.

Quote from Cr!t!calDrift :I dont see how...that has much to do with this topic...

So I dont like the RAC, FO8 and FOX, and the LX4.

That was a topic on what I wanted to see improving for the next one.

But if i had the game , I could post more detail on that, sorry. I have only used the cars twice, i tried all of them, but hey, I didn't enjoy some. =P

Edit: I realize that you may be suspicious, hey, I see what happens to those who don't know the consequences of cracking. The reason I know all the names, is because I had to open LFS, and go to my oh so lonesome demo....and then look up the names.

I think what Blowtus meant was that you've only tried these cars a few times at most at your friend's house but are asking that they be "improved". His point being that you may not have enough experience with these cars to know whether or not they are performing. I know for certainty that practicing in the XRG will not let you take the BF1 around the track at a competitive level and it will seem as if the car 'sucks' when it is, in fact, the driver.

(I know my limitations: back marker in the UF1.)

Quote from BlackSheep720 :Actually, I've now discovered STCC (took me long enough, eh?), so I think I'll be postponing any filming. Sorry if I got your hopes up.

great server, but watch out for some fast, aggressive people. You'll find that there is a very small mid-field. Either people are close to WR's or they are getting lapped. I very much like their 1b server with the UF1.

Quote from BlackSheep720 :I will be beginning a great endeavor over these next few weeks: A kind of Top Gear in LFS machinima movie. It won't be the precise style of Top Gear or the voice though , as I've only watched clips of Top Gear and, obviously, can't hire the hosts . If you have any suggestions or could give a cool title for the show, just tell me. Thanks!

Might I suggest that you watch a season of the show first? I love the series; much better than Fifth Gear or any of the Commercial-masked-as-a-show that we have here in the U.S.

Quote from Gunn :LFS is not your property though. You have paid money for a license to use the software conditionally. The only reason that you have a problem with all licensing agreements is because you don't understand the concept of a licensing agreement.

Ok. Explain it to me. I thought a license agreement was a "right" to use something in a specific way with certain conditions. LFS goes over this, though, by enhancing the basic product after a licensed is purchased. I can not just buy LFS without also agreeing to use it in a specific way. In short, I'm not buying (as in owning property), but rather leasing or renting it since the extra value can be removed if I do something that violates the license.

What would happen if, as in my examples above, products other than software came with the same types of licenses?

Quote from joen :You really can't make it any clearer than that. You buy the game, you accept this agreement. Simple.

I have a problem with all license agreements, not just the one under debate here. The only acceptable restriction is the protection of original property (IE: can't steal the product, make copies, modify without permission, etc.)

Stating that I may use my own property in very specific circumstances else that property will be made to be less than what it was is more like Renting the product.

If you buy one of my TV's, can I set it up so that if you watch a show I don't like it will disable all but one channel? If you buy my car and drive in a way that I don't like, can I automatically have the transmission not shift out of first?

It should be up to the community to enforce regulations, not the seller of a product. What is mine is mine to use as I see fit.

(Again I want to emphasis that cheaters should be banned and that i am not an advocate for cheating.)

I have a problem with this. While there is precedent for exactly this type of thing (Valve's anti-cheat on Half-Life come to mind), I don't think its right. People have purchased the game. It belongs to them. Nobody should be able to take property away from another individual because they don't like how that property is being used.

Yes, I fully realize that there are a large number of examples where this happens and is accepted by society at large. It doesn't mean I like it.

Banning a cheater from servers is perfectly acceptable.

Quote from juurme :Money isnt problem my computer is...I wanna buy the S2 but i think its pointless with that kind of computer

You are obviously playing the demo just fine, which is why you are complaining and demanding more stuff. Buying a license does not add anything which will demand more computing power, so it will therefore play the same way as the current demo.

If you can not play the demo because of your computer, why are you complaining that it doesn't have enough features? It wouldn't do you any good if they released the entire game for free.

It is apparent to everyone here that you just want to leech. The community in general appears to accept new users such as yourself so long as they comport themselves with dignity. You are, in effect, a guest. Proper decorum for a guest is to not make demands of the host. If you had a party at your residence, should I complain that you haven't served more free beer? No. I should enjoy the party or leave.

Why should you pay for my illness? The insurance industry in the U.S. must be overhauled (and its executives keelhauled), but we do not need socialized medicine.

For those of you in countries with such a system; ever wondered why the wealthy go to private doctors?

If a noob with only 98 finishes can have an opinion: I'd like to see "prototype" cars (LM class from LeMans and ALMS).

(I'd also like to see a server which understood and could score a race where different classes of cars were racing at the same time.)

No more laws. Put pressure on the insurance companies. Put presure on the politicians (like kicking them out of office) for putting PAC (political action committees) before their constituents. We don't need more laws.

If its happening every hour, exactly, then look at all of your programs which update automatically. Windows, any anti-virus, etc. Turn off all auto-updates and see if the problem goes away. If it does, turn 'em on one at a time until you get the error.

Quote from NoQuarter :BTW, to anyone I raced with this afternoon, I sincerely apologize for the Turn 1 mêlée I may have inadvertently caused...

I think I was involved in that, maybe. Half the grid knocked out by tail-end-charlie diving into the first corner at full speed and compacting everyone else?

I agree with your sentiments about blue flags. On the other hand, maybe you and I (I'm also a slow driver) need to in habit a slower-paced server. On the gripping hand, I really like STCC and enjoy working towards a goal (points) as opposed to just wining.

seems to me that, in every motor sport I have ever seen, the leaders always have trouble with slow traffic. In many close races the winner is the driver who gets around the traffic best. How many times have you seen #2 or #3 pass the leader because he was stuck behind a lapped car and the second place driver was able to sling-shot around both? I've seen this in ALMS, BTCC, Nascar, motocross, etc, etc.

Slow cars have their own race to win. It is up to the faster traffic to get around them. As the previously mentioned guideline clearly states, the slower traffic should just be predictable.

Quote from Kinetic Frenzy :Coming from a console background, i've finally become bored of the limited offerings they have. The likes of Forza and GT4 are good games but are too limited as sims/level of customisation. The ever increasing list of things Forza 2 is having stripped from it finally convinced me to take the plunge into the world of PC gaming.

I'm a n00b to LFS and come from Consoles, also. I'm not sure that agree with your characterization of GT4. One of the things I liked about the game was the high level of customization that would actually make a difference that could be felt. I would very like LFS to have the same sort of thing (beside the existing suspension adjustments.)

However, I do understand that LFS is attempting (I think) to be more of a Racing simulation, and like a real ALMS or similar series, the cars are more or less identical in power and performance. I'm pretty sure that this issue has been hashed out in great detail by the Old Timers in other threads.

cheers.

Hey, people. I'm a noob so be gentle. I'm coming from an addiction to Sony's Gran Trurismo and its hard getting used to damage and the fancier physics.

I've been trying my hand on the STCC 1b and 1a servers but I'm thinking I should probably stick to someplace less serious until I get the hang of things.
