Official round 6 results / AWS 2013 Drivers Championship standings

Even lower attended race - just 5 drivers qualified and started it,one of them rolled his car at turn 1 of 3rd lap, other 2 had some other adventures on this tricky track, only 2 STO drivers held their focus and selebrated double victory for themselves - Muc profited from his teammate's mistake in 11th lap, took lead and kept it until finish to score first win of the season,Kars brought home another 2nd place, while being the fastest in qualification for the first time. Invecs in 3rd and Rony in 4th were the rest of finishers.

With just 2 rounds left in series,Invecs still is the leader, but now the gap is just 2 points over new "Rookie of the year" leader Muc. 6 drivers are still eligible for the main title, allthough seems like Kars is the only driver beside top 2,who could join the fight for championship. There are just 2 pretendents for Rookie of the year title, but T.Lähteenmäki needs a miracle to delete 18 point gap.

Last round was the decider for AWS RB4 Master title - with a victory in the final round,Muc grabbed the title with a 3 point gap over his teammate,Invecs ended up 3rd.
Cross challenge is now led by Kars, who finished 2nd in all 3 rounds,T.Lähteenmäki is 2nd,Muc 3rd in standings, both loosing 6 points to leader. Next round is the decider for this title,Kars can secure it with another 2nd place finish without worrying about others.

4 teams are theoretically eligible for Teams Championship, but it deffinitely will be a fight between 2 latvian based teams,STO leads over RGA by 1 point.

Meanwhile Nations Cup is already secured by Latvia, who leads over Finland by 73 points with just 60 points possible in last 2 rounds. The hosting nation takes this title for the 2nd year in row and will be the only repeat champion of AWS after season 2 with all other title holders not attending season 2.

Only 2 rounds are left in the season, only 17 drivers have qualified for these with scoring the needed 1 point. Both next rounds will feature hotlap qualifying, giving each driver 2 successive laps to decide their starting positions. Next round is deffinitely the toughest of series - Super X 100 is a 100 lap race around the shortest LFS track - the 745m long Fern Bay Rallycross Green,a track that has no pitstalls in case you have some technical problems with car. Allthough FXR does not have other tyres than slicks in it's depository,it's still the fastest car on this track, but also one of the most difficult to drive, especially in longer distance, where tyre temperatures will become an issue.

Round 7

February 18th, 2013
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET

Half of the track is slippery graver, half - rough tarmac, that works like a sandpaper on tyres - yes,Super X is the toughest challenge in AWS calendar. The race is 100 laps long around a very short track without a chance to repair the car in pits,it's actually also the longest race of the season in terms of time. Last year Reno from spdoRacing took the victory after 48-and-a-half minutes long workout, lapping all other drivers, this year we will have a different winner - 17 drivers have qualified for the season final 2 rounds, where most of leagues titles are on stake.
This round will feature hotlap qualifying - every driver will have only 2 timed laps to put his best effort in fight for better position for the 3-wide starting grid. Every driver is expected to stay in spectators until he is asked to join track for his run - the order will be determinated from Drivers championship standings, starting with lowest position.

Official round 7 results / AWS 2013 Drivers Championship standings

Again only 4 drivers were up for the hardest race of AWS season and just like last year, the polesitter finished last. So much about similarities between both seasons,as rest differs. Invecs was the only driver, who didn't start from front row,but it was no problem for him to take lead at turn 3 exit and never give it up for all 100 laps - he finished this race after 47 minutes and 56 minutes, which was 38.07 seconds (more than a lap) faster than last years race time of the winner. 2nd in finish was Kars,3rd - Rony, both finished at same positions they qualified. Muc had to settle for 4th position, which he couldn't improve as he run out of fuel 7 laps before finish. Yet another top5 finish spot was left empty,as there were no other challengers for this tough race.

Only the last round is left in season, drivers championship is still on stake - Invecs leads now by 7 points over Muc and 14 points over Kars, only these 3 drivers can theoretically take AWS Drivers champion title. This means that Invecs has to score 10 points to secure the main title - he needs to finish 4th or finish 6th and take 1 bonus point or finish 8th and take both bonus points in case Muc wins.

Meanwhile Muc has secured AWS Rookie of the Year title as his rival T.Lähteenmäki missed yet another race and has 28 points deficite.

In FXR Master standings Invecs leads by 11 points over Muc and Rony, this means he needs to score just 6 points (8th place finish) to secure this title, while also Kars has theoretical chance for this title, having 13 point gap to leader.

AWS Cross Challenge award was won by driver who finished 2nd in every single of 4 cross races - Kars also took 1 pole position and started from front row in other 2 races.

Battle for Teams championship has reached it's culmination - 2 old rivals from latvian LFS communities have to give it all in the final round - Race Green Autosports (former/reloaded TheReality Racing Team) meets Sex Tourism Organizers just like in old times in local leagues - just 2 points seperates both teams (each team have 3 eligible drivers),meaning that there are too many possible scenarios, but RGA has this 2 point advantage, which could be very deciding.

So we have 3 titles at stake in the fastest round of All-Wheel-Drive winter series - Winter 200,a 200 kilometers (67 laps) race in Kyoto oval, where it's all about teamwork. Who will be able to help who,who will be the champion - evening of february 25th will give all the answers!

Round 8

February 25th, 2013
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET

The final round of All-wheel-drive Winter Series is near - just hotlap qualifying and 67 race laps stand between now and determination of 3 championship title winners,2 of them considered as the main titles. AWS Drivers champion will be decided between Invecs and Muc,while Kars also has a slim chance, but AWS Teams champions will be either the host team Race Green Autosports or Sex Tourism Organizers. Also FXR Master award is still unsecured, but Invecs has 11 point advantage over closest rivals.

Defending Winter 200 (and also AWS 2012) champion Reno did not participate this year,so also this race will have a new winner. Teamwork will have a huge role in this race,as alone you cannot go as fast as 2 or more car group,if drivers properly work together. Bumpdrafting in AWS is not forbidden, allthough in case of an incident (crash caused by bumpdrafting) and protest about it,it will be treated as intentional contact,so it is suggested to do it safely, the "normal" slingshot drafting is deffinitely the safe alternative in terms of teamwork.

In hotlap qualifying everyone will get 2 timed flying laps, after completion of those driver is expected to spectate, order is again decided by Drivers championship standings with the lowest position driver starting. Specific tyre warming (like burnouts/doughnuts etc) is allowed only in pit area, while on track driver should not reduce speed.

Season 2013 final standings
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2013 final standings:

2nd season of AWS is finished after 8 rounds of different racing and all the champions are decided, most of them new,as only 1 title has a repeat winner. A total of 31 drivers signed-up for this season,18 of them took part in at least 1 round,12 of them were rookies. There were 5 different round winners from 4 different teams and from 3 nations.

AWS 2013 Drivers Champion: RG^Invecs
Drivers championship was not decided until the last year, allthough Race Green Autosports driver Invecs had a good gap and didn't needed to worry too much. Invecs won 3 rounds (Kyoto GP 100, Aston Grand Prix, Super X 100),finished in top5 in 6 rounds,he started from front row in 2 rounds, scored 2 fastest laps. In previous season he participated only in 1 round, finishing 22nd in season standings. STO's Muc took 2nd in championship by winnig 1 round (Aston Club Cross),also finishing in top5 in 6 rounds, took 2 pole positions and set 1 fastest lap of the race. Muc's teammate Kars took 3rd position with 4 round top5 finishes (allthough never finishing lower than 6th),took also 1 pole position. Rony from RGA and M.Kapal from Savage rounds up best 5 drivers at main championship, where czech M.Kapal is the only non-latvian driver.

AWS 2013 Rookie of the Year: [STO]Muc
The first winner of this award and thus the best league newcomer is Muc from Sex tourism organizers team, winning 1 race and finishing season with 39 points lead over closest rival T.Lähteenmäki.

AWS 2013 FXR Master: RG^Invecs
FXR Master is one of 3 titles which were on stake at the final round,Invecs gave up only one point of his 11 point lead over Muc and took his 2nd AWS title. 2 of his 3 season wins were scored with FXR,he finished outside top5 only in first round. Invecs was placed 17th in previos season.

AWS 2013 RB4 Master: [STO]Muc
The best rookie celebratad his only win with RB4 and other 2 rounds he finished in 3rd position, taking his 2nd title with just 3 points lead over his teammate Kars.

AWS 2013 Cross Challenge winner: [STO]Kars
Stability was the key for this award,as Kars finished 2nd in every single rallycross race this season, taking also his only pole position. He finished with 8 points advantage over his teammate Muc.

AWS 2013 Teams Champions: Race Green Autosports
Just 2 points difference decided winners of the teams title - STO could not reduce the gap in final round, letting the series hosting team take the award. RGA drivers finished 1st,4th and 13th in drivers standings, team scored 3 wins (all by the series champion),took a total of 12 top5 finishes, set 2 fastest laps of the race. The "source" team of RGA - TheReality Racing Team - finished 2nd last year.

AWS 2013 Nations Cup winners: Latvia
The only repeated champion is the league hosting nation Latvia, finishing the season with a commanding 99 points lead over Czech Republic. Latvian drivers collected half of the available 8 round wins,22 top5 finishes, took 3 pole positions, and set 3 fastest laps.

AWS 2013 other honorable mentions:
CoRe T.Lähteenmäki - won 2 of the season's first 4 rounds, taking pole position and setting fastest laps in same both races, whice were rallycross races. The finnish driver never attended in 2nd half of the season and finished 6th in main standings and as 2nd best rookie.
CoRe V.Pitkänen - participated only in 1 round but dominated it by winning it,taking pole position and setting fastest lap. He finished 11th in standings,6 positions better than last season.
S M.Kapal - showed his oval skills in final round taking the full 17 points package from round with a win, pole position and fastest lap of the race. He finished 5th in standings, upgrading his 19th position from last year.
CoRe Racing - took a total of 3 wins of AWS 2013,but ended with 4th position in Teams Championship due to not participating in 2nd half.

We would like to say big thanks to all racers for taking part in this league, hoping that you had fun from these races! Unfortunately the number of drivers have decreased by 51% in comparision to 1st season. Let's see what 2014 brings,we can only hope for better times!
But let's stay in 2013 for a while for now,I just wanted to send out some sort-of-teaser info about our plans - in approximately 2 months we will announce our new league, which will fill the GTR sprintracing gap, currently being empty, while all the GTR leagues are running with at least 1h races. The new league is planned to hold a round on each track environment, choosing rather medium short configurations, each round will feature qualifying and 2 20minute races. But - there will be one little trick,to make the races a bit more interesting (we hope) and mess up comperitors minds.
Stay tuned!
