How many cars have you owned & how many have survived?
After a discussion at work, it seems I am the local "Car Destroyer".

Out of the 18 cars I have owned, only 5 of them have ever made it out of my ownership alive
That thread title confuses me :twirl:

It's because I am stupid and can't write for toffee......
Ahh, better now

Well, owned... technically zero, but one can be considered "mine", and it still works, so survival count is also one.

Haha my record isn't good either.

Destroyed 1 car I didn't own
Owned 4 cars and all destroyed
Co-owned one car that survived
Currently don't own any cars, otherwise I'd destroy it.
Owned (myself) 4 cars, and 4 survived. Also used my uncles Ford Festiva (imported from Hawaii on his return to England) as a first car, which 'died' when I parked it on it's roof.

So, I guess 4 out of 5 lived, which is 80%, which isn't that bad compared to other statistics
Maybe I will be the "Car Destroyer" of here too then..........5 out of 18 isn't great is it.............LOL
mmmmm, my record is also not so good

Destroyed 2 cars that I didn't own. (Nissan, Ford)
Destroyed my first car, due to a brake failure. (Beetle, Nissan 1400 souped up motor & all the extras)
Survived and sold. (Golf Mk1 1.6 Sonic)
Survive and still running with it. (Golf Mk1 1.6i Life)

Cheers

gg golf mk1, that's the only car that survived me boy did we have some fun times though, it's the car I thought of when watching the last top gear.
Ok, list of cars and fates.....

1) Datsun 160J SSS
Engine smoked more than Uncle bucks car, roof rusted and started peeling away at 70mph, scrapped

2) Fiesta 1.1
I HAND PAINTED it (OMG), drove it like a rallycar, interior light shorted out and set the interior on fire, burnt out.

3) Toyota Celica Mk1
Blew the engine after running it with no oil

4) Renault 18 turbo
Blew the engine at 120mph, oil may have been a factor in this too.

5) Vauxhall Cavalier SRi
Blew the engine at 140mph (indicated) on the way to Alton Towers, had oil and coolant in it, but redlining in top wasn't a great idea

6) Ford Escort 1.1
Scrapped

7) Vauxhall Cavalier CDi
SOLD IT WOOT

8) Renault 21 Savanna
Scrapped

9) Vauxhall Cavalier L
Blown engine due to no water

10) Opel Kadett GT
My ex drove it backwards into a tree

11) Volvo 440
SOLD IT WOOT

12) Mk2 Ford Mondeo
SOLD IT WOOT

13) Mk3 Ford Mondeo
Still going strong with my ex

  1. '67 Plymouth Belvedere - wrecked
  2. '68 Pontiac LeMans - sold (running) after too many tickets
  3. '68 Plymouth Satellite - blown engine (was going when I bought it for $400) junked
  4. '72 Ford Maverick - passed down to little brother
  5. '63 Chevy Biscayne - sold running
  6. '72 Plymouth Satellite - gave to uncle (still running)
  7. '72 Mazda RX2 - Bought for $200, drove the hell out of it, sold for $200
  8. '72 VW Super Beetle - sold running
  9. '76 Chevy Chevette - sold running
  10. '72 Pontiac GTO - sold running very well
  11. '76 Toyota Corolla - traded running
  12. '89 Ford Ranger P/U - sold running
  13. '92 Ford Ranger P/U - sold with dying motor
  14. '04 Suzuki Aerio sedan - still running
1. 1979 Ford Fairmont Futura, 60k miles - 16 yrs old - hand-me-down from parents - wrecked 2 weeks after license.

2. 1983 Ford Escort (POS), 36k miles - 16 yrs old - hand-me-down when parents bought new car - Wasn't driven enough by mom (23k miles in 6 years) - I blew it up very soon.

3. 1985 Ford Escort (POS), 64k miles - 18 yrs old - my first bought by me - Blew a hole in the tranny.

4. 1992 Geo Storm (Isuzu Impulse import for GM, another POS), 60k miles - 18 yrs old - My first brand new car - Handled superbly with Pirelli P500 tires, but there is a reason they discontinued it after 2 years - Traded for far less than I owed

5. 1989 Toyota 4x4 Pickup, 134k miles - 23 yrs old - my first Toy 4x4 - My baby! Best vehicle I've ever owned. Flawless and bulletproof. Amazingly abused off road and on road. Wrecked and I recieved around $2500 more than I paid for because it was so clean, and I had gone 4wheeling 2 days previous .

6. 1994 Toyota 4Runner, 65k miles - 25 yrs old - Took the extra cash I got from wrecking the truck and put a down payment on this $23,000 beast. Realized I bit off more than I could chew at that age and sold it 6 months later.

7. 1988 Toyota 4Runner, 189k miles - 25 years old - Beat this one forever. AFAIK, it's still out there on the road. Bought with 105k, sold with 189k and I never changed the oil and it never had antifreeze in it. Only thing I put into this one was a new clutch and normal brake changes. Oh, and this one was totalled twice (3 wrecks in all) and put back together again by me to live another day .

8. 1992 Cheverlet Corsica, 95k miles - aquired this when I got married. Wife's car, typical GM POS.

9. 1996 Nissan Altima, 147k miles - replaced the Corsica with this for the wife. Just bought her a new car and I aquired this currently as my work commute vehicle, still running flawlessly and still looks great at 147k miles.

10. 1983 Honda Nighthawk CB550SC, 34k miles - my first bike. Had it about 4 years, but no time to ride anymore. Sold it this past summer. I miss having a bike.

11. 1999 Toyota Tacoma 4x4, 91k miles - Just traded this on the following vehicle. Great truck, but at only 91k miles, the frame is completely rusted away.

12. 2006 Mazda Tribute S, 1447 miles - And we go from 1992 to 2007 for my 2nd ever brand new car. Just bought it. Nice vehicle for the wife, but too much automatic "driver's aid" stuff for me. Automatic 4wd (switches between FWD and 4WD when it senses slip), antilock brakes, auto tranny.

Final tally:
2 wrecked
4 POS's
1 rusted away
5 excellent vehicles since I've gone Japanese rather than American
1 bike that I really miss having.
(13 in tally due to 1 awesome vehicle that was also wrecked.)

I think you should check your oil and water more often!
Totaled 2 of my 2 cars. Good percentage
1st car survived me, but the engine disintegrated a couple of months after I sold it. Guess why I sold it?

2nd car was written off.

3rd car was sold and I saw it running a few weeks back.

4th car, still using it
I never wrecked a car and I owned... one... for the past 4 days... still running...

nvm

Toyota Tercel -82 Survived, is some kids field racer still today, drinks oil more than gas

Mazda 626 2.0D -88, barely survived, then gave it to my father that drove so much gearbox did wore out. (over 550 000km)

Nissan Sunny 1.5GL Automatic -86, mint condition, except carb tune, this survived as I traded this to my current one.

Volvo 360GL -88 Still going strong, my hobby / track day car.

Those are what I have owned.

Now what I have destroyed.
Citröen Visa (maybe -86 or something) 2am at Christmas eve when there was -30C engine gave up at middle of nowhere, this was company car.

Toyota Hiace -87, one moron turned to my lane when I had under 10m to him, managed to avoid head on, but squeezed between that car and railing, it hurted a lot, had to spend bit time in hospital, had only 80kph and trailer at back.

Moskwitch Elite, OLD, managed to flip this over few times, then it burned too, roof came in a bit and got bit damage myself, again did hurt a lot.

Then I have been in car when it has been destroyed.
My father's Datsun 100A, other similar came from opposite direction of road and even my father tried avoid it by driving out from road it still hit to side quite hard, other car did roll few times.

Father's Opel Kadett C, set to fire middle of trip.

Father's Opel Kadett B, rolled when avoiding car that comes from opposite direction and on our lane, side of road was bit soft and car got sucked a bit then rolled few times, real lucky to be alive.

Father's Vauxhall Viva, other similar came from left at intersection without braking and did collide, did not hurt so much as speed was quite low, but still got marks from loose seatbelt.

Anyway, I don't like to lend my car to my Father, there is something weird how he is like magnet to those accidents

I haven't destroyed any car that I have owned, just some other's cars and only Elite I had to pay, I think something like 18€ that was
1. Austin Metro - rebuilt and therefore survived
2. Renault Clio - survived
3. Peugeot 206 - still in use
Quote from jamesrowe :I think you should check your oil and water more often!

You would think so wouldn't you, but when you are young (well, when I was young) things like Oil and Water weren't too important
Zero cars owned, zero cars demolished. It's quite likely I'll never own a car.

Unless I can afford two BMW M3s so I could wreck the other one just for the heck of it.
No cars owned myself, so none wrecked

But mates Civic got totaled when he searched for a cd on the floor going 100km/h, with me and two others drunk on the backseats. Except two trees nobody was really hurt.
1981 Austin Metro, part-ex'd for...
1995 Peugeot 106 Rallye, part-ex'd for...
1999 Peugeot 106 GTi, still going strong *touches wood*

Out of curiosity, how much it would have been to fix that?

For my car it is around 100€, but I guess it would have been quite lot more for that?
Nissan 100NX - Still Surviving - Still own it :P

Although it is in pieces due to engine internal modifications and turbo. And the interior only consists of dash, 2 front seats, pedals and wheel. Roll cage baby.
