General Setup Questions

First off, a disclaimer. This is not a "help me set my car up" thread. I'm mainly interested in others experiences with minor adjustments to various car setup parameters.

I've been racing the FBM quite a lot over the past few months and between looking at others sets, modifying for my driving style and controls, and just generally playing around with individual settings, I've developed a bunch of track specific setups that differ mainly in just wing and camber adjustments.

Seems that, at least for me, some fairly generic settings for springs, dampers, ARBs, and toe control work well on all circuits. Recently, on AS1 reverse, I spent a few hours hot lapping, adjusting parameters wildly. ARBs from full soft to full hard, same with dampers and toe controls. After a few laps to get used to the car, I found myself not improving my times at all, but neither did my times suffer. Almost every setup was within a tenth of a second of each other.

AS1R is a technical, twisty little circuit and I figured any major setup differences would show up here above any other place.

Has anyone else experienced the same behavior out of their setups? I would expect laptimes to tell a bigger tale, considering the degree to which I was adjusting settings.
Solid Car CAD Models

This is an open request for anyone, developers or otherwise, who would be willing to provide solid car models or convert the existing car data to solid modeling.

I would like to use several of the car models for general purpose CFD experimentation. I work for a CFD firm and would like to have the models for both software testing purposes and personal exploration.

I've started a company blog that highlights the "cooler" side of CFD and I think a few LFS car models would a perfect addition. Link below if you are interested:

As stated before, I'm looking for solid models, or solid surfaces. File formats I can work with include any native format from the major CAD packages like UG NX, Pro/E, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Inventor, Catia, and several other formats including parasolid, step, iges, acis, etc.

If anyone can point me in the right direction here, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,
James

Driving the Nurburgring is number 1 on my list of things to accomplish in Europe.

Hey, I moved to Giessen about two months ago. I'm still learning my way around. I haven't been able to find any tracks in the vicinity however. The Nurburgring is only 2 hours away though.

I would absolutely be down for a karting event or karting weekend. Would be a great chance to meet some more people in Europe and frankly, I love karting. I was a Formula SAE driver back in college for Virginia Tech. Think MRT but faster.

S3 definitely needs LMP cars. There is so much action there right now...with the new diesel vs. gasoline issue.

Audi R10
Porsche RS Spyder
Courage

Maybe true F1 level cars with a realistic 950+ hp. (Get ready for spinouts but it would be fun... )
