Recently, Autocar magazine performed a test in Nurburgring track with this car against Porsche new 911 Carrera (300hp), Ruf 911 CTR2 (520hp) and Nissan Skyline GTR (280hp, 4wd, 4ws), the lap time is amazingly found as follows :
  1. Caterham Superlight R .......... 8 min 6.2 sec
  2. Ruf 911 CTR2 ....................... 8 min 15.0 sec
  3. Nissan Skyline GTR .............. 8 min 28.1 sec
  4. Porsche 911 Carrera ............. 8 min 38.4 sec
Benefited by the light weight and superbly balanced chassis, the Superlight R ran considerably faster than others in bends, although it lost a lot of time in fighting with drag in straights. Road tester found it handles very much better than others, it is virtually a racing car.
Nurburgring is usually regarded as the best place to test a car's real world performance - it has high speed straights as well as a hundred bends with different speeds. The Superlight R broke the track record for non-modified road car, so, maybe we can call it "the fastest car in the world". Hard to accept ? Ferrari F50, McLaren F1, Nismo Skyline 400R and Porsche 911 GT1 (this is really a racing car!) might be faster, but until they are tested in Nurburgring, the Caterham still remains to be the King.

Welcome to R E V S. My name is Jouni, I´m 50y old and live in Finland.
As race admins. (I wont be racing) my job is to spectate and do my best to see that all enjoy the racing.

Intro :
Practice, practice and practice. The solid good advice for all to be better and faster drivers online. However, not all have as much time as they would like to practice to the level they would like to. Real life could be hectic at some times.
R E V S is here for you guys that would like to compete in a series (no sign-ups needed) that controls and levels out the preparation for the races. Its not 100% of course, as thats impossible, but it does to some level.
So, how does R E V S work? - Well, simply by not having a race menu for all to see, therefore not knowing what car and what track is to be raced this round. This means that once the (password protected) server opens, starts a 30 min practice session for all to join in and get the feel of the car and track and tweak setup. Then follows a 15 min qualifying session for race grid. Races will be set to 5-15 laps to make the race time to apr. 15-20 mins.
....this is just silly? - see rules.
Cars and tracks :
- All 12 tin tops, 2 rag tops and RAC will be raced. 1 of them each round/week. =15 cars.
- 15 tracks (no rally/dirt or oval) out of the 20 tracks in game. Counting tracks in both directions this means, possible 40 layouts to be raced. Even at the last round, it would be pure guessing whats it going to be.
Race schedule : - Series start date t.b.a. later. Possable a few warmup Wednesdays to try it out.
- R E V S server (located in the UK) will be restarted every Wednesday at 19:00 GMT for the 30 mins practice session. Only then will appear the track/car combo.
- Qualifying session is 15 mins.
- Races are apr 15-20 mins depending on layout and number of laps.
- Weather (time of day) is randomly picked by race admins. However there will be no wind.
Championships :
- 1. R E V S overall Champion. (points from all competed races.)
- 2. Road car Champion. Points from all road car races. (UF1, XFG, XRG, RB4, FXO, XRT and FZ5)
- 3. Racing car Champion. Points from all racing car races. (UFR, XFR, FXR, XRR and FZR)
- 4. Sports Car Champion. Points from LX4, LX6 and RAC races.
Points :
- Depends totally on how many show up to race and qualify. (R E V S server is slotted for 20 racers.)
- Last place finisher gets 1 point. Second last 2 points. So the race winner gets as many points as how many have qualified to race.
But I want to compete for just one particular championship :
- Thats fine, as there is no signups you are not obligated to race every round. However, I cant help you on telling you when your championship race is to be raced. So, best solution would be to keep a look out when the server restarts to see what race is on that round.
Sign up :
- There is none. R E V S is simply first in, first served. R E V S server is slotted for 20 racers. However, we will be monitoring and checking that racers causing lag and warping, will be kindly asked to leave the server to ensure a fair and good race. This could mean a possible slot will open at any given moment.
Rules :
- R E V S races are organized for the enjoyment and fun for all. Good sportsmanship and Gentlemen racing etiquette is required.
- Race restarts voting will be turned OFF. A possible race restart (by admins) will only happen if a driver calls controller failure.
- All drivers will be asked to answer to the "ready" call to assure all are on track and ready to race. All cars must be in the grid area, so I can see that their on track.
- Rear assing (causing an off track run) a fellow competator is penalized by a "pit lane drive through." Failing to do so, will lead to a DQing.
- Gaining a position by rear assing is not considered gentleman racing. The right thing to do, is wait (in a safe part of the track, or on the side) for him to continue racing in front of you.
- I will be monitoring the starts and the racing. Replays will be checked and points given after replay check only.
- Server password for each round will be posted at www.wr-racing.co.uk only. (R E V S forum)
Note: Its quite obvious that some rear ending, and racing incidents will happen, especially with this limited race preparation. Due to that, its quite obvious that racers should take extra care racing together. Penalties must be taken as ruled.

It would be great to hear from a father / son playing this game.

My son (30y) isnt interested in racing games, but I have fun racing my nephew however.
A dream would be to race a grandson some day!!!

Coming from a Grand Turismo communtiy years back (GT2, GT3) there was lots of 40+ y old guys racing what we called online racing (just comparing times actualy) we did get together and race some iLink racing too. (6 PS2 conected together via cables) But even there in console racing we hade lots of guys over 30 y old too, but of course most was in the 18 - 30y. There was about 10 guys in the 50´s. Oldest being 59y.

with PC racing, I race weekly with Nascar, rFactor and LFS. we are a group of guys mostly in the 40´s and up with a few younger guys. 2 of us over 50y. we´ve raced Nascar trucks for a few years now, and currently waiting for rFactor Utes mod to continue racing.

We also race GTP in the world online Sports Car endurance championship. (monthly)

Recently we´ve tryed some LFS races, but its a bit hard to tell if it will get much attention in the future, I dont think so.

I like the game, and some of my Finn buddys (40y+) have now bought it and have got into racing it with me. They find Nascar, GPL etc. too hard to race with, LFS has slow cars and wide tracks that makes it easy straight off the block.
Heh, even my brother bought the game so he can watch us race (he dosnt play at all) and now makes an excellent server for us. If cóurse one extra point is that the game has a Finnsih menu for the non english speaking.

Real cars and real tracks are the thing that atracts most serious simmers I suppose, although its not a big issue for me, but I can see how it is for lots of guys my age that i race with. That will be an important thing for many when rFactor modders start releasing real tracks.
Although, with reflexes and eyes getting old and wheary, LFS with wide tracks and slow cars is getting more and more my kinda cup of tee.

I´d realy love to race my Mini in long endurance races.

Well, ive been playing the rFactor MP Demo for a few weeks via IP connection with my online mates and it works mighty fine. In fact with same net connection it takes more clients than LFS. So in that area it has improved a lot from F1C.
I didnt play the F1C game at all, but the mods that where made, some I played a lot, and thinking that this will be the case with this rF too. ETCC, JGTC and So76 hade the cars that was my "cup of tee."
For me its all about online play with mates, and the MP demo already showed that its good fun swapping paint together.

Quote from Hallen :
Use the F9 key to see the tire temps. The outer tred shows the surface temp. The inner part of the tire shows the internal temp. Optimally, you want to see a nice solid green. If you see red, the tire will be very slippery. If it is blue, the tire is cold and won't have a lot of grip..

Add to this, dont drive on grass/dirt. You´ll get your tyres dirty and then they´ll get slippery. The little brown color (F9) indicates the dirt, with the tyres dirty, its slippery to drive. By keeping on the track for some time, you´ll see the dirt get cleaned up, and the grip get better.

My hat's off to you, Bob. I truly hope that the devs consider using your setups as the default in future releases.

Ditto, put my vote in for that one too.

Are you locking the brakes? Fix that!
"tweaky tweak" the brake balance and brake power so that you can brake without locking up.
