Intel Dedicated Memory Reporting

Posting this just in case it influences LFS somehow. There are more technical details and recommendations from Intel in the document.
Quote :The graphics driver now reports some amount of fictitious “dedicated” graphics memory to the
operating system (128MB by default) to work around applications issues in a number of games.
These games incorrectly look for some amount of “dedicated” graphics memory because they
weren’t coded with the unified memory architecture for processor graphics.

I am using the Intel HD Graphics 4600 and i have no issues running LFS and I hope not to have issues after updating to this new driver.

I was talking about the engine in context of the new progress report. I see Scawen is working a lot lately trying to fix different graphics problems. Using a separate engine would free the developer from having to "reinvent the graphics wheel" and increase time allocated for the innovative physics engine.
Why not?

I post this here because it has a vague link to progress reports and i see Scawen follows this thread.

I was wondering, why doesn't LFS use a third party engine like Unity3D? I see the price is $1500 or $76/month if i understand correctly. Also, I remember reading somewhere there are older engines that have become free. Can't the physics engine be added to such game engine? Are there other limitations?
I'm not a programmer per se, but i guess development would proceed with fewer headaches and progress (here's the link with the thread Smile) would be faster.

Searching the forum for similar questions i found this thread https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/86262 where someone posted a interactive rendering of a LFS car made in unity3d, it looks really nice.

I wish LFS an even bigger community in 2015, some new content... and a physics system. Smile

I see the discussion in here is not strictly regarding Westhill, so i'll post here my suggestion.

I've played lots of race sims/games and i noticed a little thing that makes a big impact, in my opinion. That thing is fully animated hands and feet of the virtual character. Maybe it's just me, but the first time i saw a virtual character change gears with the shifter and toe-and-heel, i was amazed beyond reason.

It's one of those synergetic things.

If Eric would want to tackle this he could use a Kinect to input the motion. Or other multi-camera based open source motion capture solutions.

Maybe create a new thread to see if other people feel the same way i feel about this...

Quote from mitza4rally :I finished all th green lines from this page http://www.lfs.net/lfs_transla ... _viewer.php?lang=Romanian, i.e those that weren't translated and the file with them and other correction are in the attachment. This weekend I'm pretty but next week I'll give an overhaul to the hole file and then... will see

I changed the visibility of the Google Docs document on which we collaborate and sent you the link via PM accompanied by a "clarification" message. You can see that part of the suggestions you made are already present.

As stated before on this thread the online translation is not the current translation. We only need kitu_gadu to update the list, which by now is probably to late for this update (Friday afternoon).

P.S. 2 Am inceput sa actualizez traducerea online.

Daca vrei sa ii dai copy paste... be my guest

Daca facem modificarile in prima "foaie" trebuie sa luam fiecare traducere si sa ii dam paste in locul ei... lucru cam complicat de facut.

idei, impresii?

As i said before, i think we should paste the translations to a google docs spreadsheet and translate simultaneously, entering alternative translations in a new column and then vote/comment on the best translation.
I personally find it too complicated, time consuming and cumbersome to edit separate text files and merge them together or post translations as replies on this forum or another one. Let alone translating the whole thing by myself, which i'm not capable of doing due to a very short attention span.

I'm working to implement this, i don't know how long it would take because i don't have previous experience with google docs and the time i can devote to this task is limited. If someone else understands better how invites and permissions work in google docs please advise.

I don't know if it's appropriate to write in the translation's language but i will. If there is any reason to write in english please advise.

Vad ca proiectul cam stagneaza, sugerez abordarea sistematica a traducerii.

I wonder how i can help, i would download the whole file and modify but it would be a pain to review all the lines for just a few changes.

It would be nice to have multiple versions side by side in the online translation system with a vote button next to each variation.

So, what should i do? Download, edit and post back here or post here only the modifications with the line id and the translation?

EDIT by Scawen : Removed IMG tags. Please do not use IMG tags on such large images

I too rarely see this kind of texture corruption on my LFS in Windows XP.

I think it is the dreaded nv4_disp.dll error. It never happened to me when using my 6600gt (although it was artifacting in some other games due to some weird heat/ram/heatsink problem), but when i changed to a 9800gt i started to get the nv4_disp.dll blue screens/freezes in some games including LFS (strangely when in other games i generally got blue screens in LFS it freezes).

The only fix i found to this was running Windows 7 RC.

I don't know in your case how often this frame drop occurs or for how long, but i noticed some severe frame drops when my anti-virus updates, happens with bitdefender and nod32 for sure, don't know about others.
Juts a thought.

If the pedals work in other games it is possible that you modified the lfs settings. Try reading previous posts on this thread or redownloading a fresh lfs install.

Ups, didn't take into account the HANS device and race seats. I guess street cars could still have this feature. The camera would not be able to turn in race cars because of the seat, but in road cars i think it is possible.

In regard to where i was the last 10 months...

Noticed a "bug", when i press both the left an right view buttons the view doesn't change to rear view. This is not specific to the Z13 patch but i recall this feature existing in previous releases. I really liked that feature because it freed a button on my steering wheel, it was more natural and provided a better view around the car, no one snaps his neck to rear view.
A nice "feature" would be no rear view mirror on the single seaters. But i suppose that was discussed so I'll shut up.
I also noticed that in shift+u mode the force feedback does not work. Not sure if anyone would find a use for that anyway.
No problems with path Z13 till now.
Keep up the really good work!

You have to create two keystrokes for the LEFT and RIGHT keyboard keys and then assign the left keystroke to counterclockwise turn and, obviously , the right keystroke to the clockwise turn. I would also suggest to assign the up and down rocker to UP and DOWN on the keyboard, this way you can navigate the brake balance and pit instructions menus.
Good racing!

There are some options to calibrate the wheel in lfs, if you messed with them it might result in what you described.

Control > axes/FF > recalibrate axes.

If i remember correctly how it works, you should click "unlock" and then push recalibrate axes, then push your pedals all the way and release.
Also be sure to run the logitech profiler before you run lfs, i had some issues when i started lfs first.

Sry, i meant 101%, but is it still true? The wheel feels different now, so i wonder if this change affects the 101% recommended setting.
Can we now squeeze more performance/feel form this wheel?

I was talking about not being able to assign those buttons commands/keystrokes in the Logitech Profiler. The buttons work just fine in the game.

I too have set the live brake balance on the red dial, too bad i'm not that advanced in my driving technique to use it

I wonder what are the best settings for the wheel now. Are the old DFP settings still the best ones. (force to 100% and the rest set to 0%)?

The (kind'a) bad
Does anyone hear a new sound form inside the wheel? Is like a new gear has been engaged. Kind of annoying at first.

Also a new thing i noticed is that when i restart my pc the wheel tries to center itself without going lock to lock, the problem is that it is off by 1 or 2 degrees and i have to unplug the usb. No a big deal really.

The red thingy is really cheap on mine too.

Shame you cannot assign the ps, start and select buttons in the profiler, good thing it works ingame.

Little bit dissapointed about not beeing able to change the degree of rotation in LFS, i have to exit LFS and change the general controller option. I thot this would will be resolved with pc driverrs.

The good
The feeling is much smoother, is like having a new wheel. The term progressive force feedback comes into mind for some reason

I don't understand why you don't use a credit or debit card. I used a visa electron debit card to buy my license, it took 30 seconds. Is there a security problem with that?
