I know Steam has been mentioned before but would moving to Steam solve the piracy problem?

4x sounds good to me, I don't notice much of a visual improvement in LFS going any higher than that.

Quote from Scawen :No, it's much too subtle. What Eric is talking about is something you can feel, but not see.

In my words, just as I've said before, the new tyres feel better to drive. I think it's because of the physical model used to combined the lateral and longitudinal forces.

It's not something you can see. There are terrible flaws with the new tyre system, relating to pressure, temperature, load sensitivity. It's unfinished work. It's something I want to get finished. I can't make any more comments on the subject at this time.

Understood, I just (possibly wrongly) assumed there would be at least some noticeable difference in the way the cars reacted that would be visible, particularly in replays under heavy loads or running over curbs etc.

I'm sure the new tyre model will be worth the wait.

Have to say I was surprised nobody made a big deal about that comment too.

I'd love to see some videos of it in action, until now we've just had those few screenshots right?

Scawen/Eric, is there any chance you could release a video with a full lap onboard and the same lap from replay cameras? A side-by-side synchronized video would be perfect.

As expected, the move to DX9 with the latest test patch has fixed this issue and LFS now correctly utilizes the discreet GPU in my HP laptop Thanks Scawen!
DX9 almost here?

So LFS is now running in DX9, should we be expecting a new test patch?
Specify the audio device for LFS output

I'd like to see a list of the available audio devices within the options menu to be able to specify which one is used by LFS rather than simply the default device.

In my case I have my PC connected to both a monitor with speakers and a TV via HDMI. I can switch the default device in windows to be one or the other but I'd like to leave it set on speakers for music, browsing, general PC sounds etc. but use the TV output in LFS.

Some applications such as Media Player Classic allow you to specify the output device so it should be possible.

Thanks

Good review, thanks for sharing.

I'm definitely planning to get the consumer version of the rift, just hoping it won't take them too much longer or be too expensive when it finally does come out.

One of the best things about LFS is that it doesn't take a monster PC to achieve the solid 60fps the rift requires to work it's best.

Quote from Nilex : ...... This is a long shot but... in one post one guy (troy) posted a .dll file which converts DX8 to DX9 on the fly or something, the funny part is that another guy who tried it got a massive FPS increase. I immediately thought that this new DX9 voodoo magic trick triggered the driver to activate the AMD card. Not sure though, other guy never mentioned his specs. Just need to find the post lol.
EDIT: found it: here it is! (put the "v0.0035" .dll file in the same folder with LFS.exe); check two posts above that one too, interesting stuff ...

Just tried this out and it fixes the issue! After placing the linked files in the main LFS folder LFS is now using the Radeon GPU so it indeed looks to be a case of switchable graphics not working with DX8.

I guess if Scawen completes his conversion of LFS over to DX9 this issue should hopefully get fixed in the process.

Thanks again for posting the link Nilex!

As I say, the switchable graphics is working as intended on the other games I tried. No matter what settings I use for LFS it doesn't activate the Radeon GPU

As a side note, some other titles such as the Resident Evil 6 benchmark tool display the GPU name as Intel 4000 but it is most definitely using the Radeon from monitoring GPU load and the apparently decent performance.
LFS does not detect all video cards present [FIXED in DX9 Test Patch]

--- BUG IS FIXED IN DX9 TEST PATCH ---

As discussed in this thread https://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=84843 LFS does not utilize the dedicated GPU in my Dell laptop, it uses the integrated Intel 4000 chipset instead.

The issue seems to be LFS specific, or at least from the 10 or so games I have tested on the laptop.

Within the options screen of LFS there is no button to select the Radeon GPU and using the AMD driver to force it has no effect unlike all the other games I tried.

I am using GPU-Z, a free software to monitor loads on the Intel and Radeon GPUs as the game is running and it's most definitely using the Intel and the mediocre performance suggests the same.

If anyone else has similar issues please post your details to the thread as it may help pinpoint the issue.

Thanks!

Quote from MandulAA :Right Zipppy. You could try opening the Catalyst, search for the Switchable Graphics menu, add LFS to that list, and make sure the high performance graphics are selected. Don't forget to apply it the new settings.

Picture (if it helps): http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfr ... c/images/79/c02911242.jpg

I already have LFS set to High Performance in the switchable graphics settings in Catalyst the same as I have with the other correctly functioning games but it doesn't make a difference
Laptop not using discrete GPU

I have a recent Dell Pavillion that has both integrated Intel 4000 gpu and a discreet Radeon GPU. CPU is Intel i5.

The system uses (I believe) custom AMD drivers that can switch between the Intel graphics and Radeon when needed.

Every 3D game/benchmark tool seems to be using the Radeon GPU as they should with the exception of LFS.

I am using GPU-Z utility to monitor load and temps of both GPUs and it shows that LFS is only using the Intel.

In the LFS options only the Intel is listed in the graphics option. I have tried editing card_cfg.txt but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Could the reason be that LFS is DX8 or is it simply not coded to cope with these dynamic GPU switching systems?

Any help would be really appreciated!

If you need any dxdiag logs or similar let me know.

I have to agree too, I bought rFactor 2 at launch of the beta and have played most of the ISI gMotor based titles and some of the more common mods but they all seem to lack something in the physics compared to LFS.

I think perhaps a bit too much emphasis is put on tire physics in sim racing although by no means is it not important. I feel once you have the tires simulated well the next layer is suspension geometry and basic inertias of the car body; this is what I feel LFS does better than the rest. Just watch some replays or youtube videos and see how natural the cars lean and skip over curbs etc. all other sims I've tried look very rigid and smoothed/filtered in comparison.

LFS cars appear to have convincing weight, momentum and flex in the suspension that all comes together to make it just right.

Anyone else feel the same?

Joined March 2003 and this is my first post!

Always been a big fan of LFS but never really had the time to drive much (got married soon after it released, had kids, moved overseas...).

It's a huge testament to the devs and the quality of their product that people are still playing and eager for more LFS 10 years after release.

Looking forward to S3 whenever it may come
