Quote from axus :To me, the fact that we are getting an F1 car in LFS is anything but boring. Infact, I'm more excited about this patch than I ever was. I was expecting to have a nice patch waiting for me today, but instead I know that when it comes in the next two weeks at most, I will also get an amazing model of my favourite F1 team's car. It is an astonishing achievement for a 3 man project to get a license to such a car and I believe we must aplaud them for it. This is beyond all my expectations for LFS and I believe that those complaining must re-think what they are saying.

I am pleased to hear you are so happy.

But everyone has to respect that each person has their own wishes and desires out of LFS.

Personally for me what originally attracted me to LFS was the fact it wasn't an open top racing sim and it made out of passion. Seeing these updates has made me wonder just what direction LFS is going in and wether or not I still fit into that picture.

I didn't particulary like watching it go commercial, going through this teaser period reflects part of that, but now learning there's the possibility that a larger comerical organisation may be involved is a little off putting - But we need to learn more about that.

It's tedious. It's bad enough having to wait so long with zero communication but having each little change drip fed with this teaser campaign makes me feel even further distanced from what was a down to Earth honest game development.

I'm happy for those that have found it genuinely exciting though, and that does seem to be the overwhelming majority fair play to you all.

I gues LFS is changing in many many ways

Quote from NovaTez :I've been keeping an eye on this, even when the tyres are red hot very little smoke.

I might be wrong here but I think you have to be quite far into the red to get them really smoking.

Have you tried just donuting until the tyres pop and seeing if the smoke starts to get more noticable?

Quote from NovaTez :Hey Guys,

Just a quick question really. I'm new to LFS (and I must say S2 really does kick a$$) and have been drifting the XRT all weekend but when comparing my replay to other drift replays out there I note that I very rarely produce any smoke (the only time I can see smoke is when I really loose control!!), im revving hard and I leave tyre lines all through the corners but not a stitch of smoke from the rear.

I wonder if it's my driving or something that can be tweaked with the tyre settings

Any clues, I love drifting but its just not the same without smoke

How hot are your tyres getting? You don't get much smoke at all until they get pretty hot.

Quote from Vendetta :A mate named Diesal (aka sam) did it. I uploaded the replay I havent tryed it myself, but im sure i could do it. Ill upload a replay later of the linked laps on kyoto gp long rev later. I guess youve never seen what some of us drifters are capable of have you Android?

Thanks for the link, that's pretty much how I've been driving around it. I just liked the view from the other car really. I would guess once the tyres are hot enough you can pretty much drive any track like that if you are prepared to tease the car around.

I might have a go and see how many times I can do the oval.

After winging in the general forum about tyre temps I decided to shut up and use them to my advantage.

Quote from Lionclaw23 :As long as those tyres aren't popped (ie either gotten over 200°C or have no rubber left) they plenty enough grip left to still perform some nice drifts. Yes, it's hard to controll it. Yes, with newer tyres you can perform 'em at higher speed/angles. But NO, it's not impossible to drift with hot tyres.

Have you got any replay vids of people drifting with tyre temps like you describe? OR vids of people pulling long hard drifts for over one lap? I can drift with the tyres in this state but find the drifts are quite poor looking since you can't apply much power and angle. I'd be very interested to see what you guys are achieving.

I find that even within 1 lap of hard drifting I am seeing tyres temps over 100 and my problem at this point is I can either take it very easy and wait for the temps to slowly come down, get the tyres changed in the pits, restart the session or carry on until the car is near impossible to enter a bend with anymore.

I'd rather a set of tyres which wore out in 5 laps but didn't over heat as easily, do you guys know what I mean?

HeerBommel I did look at the 4wd cars thanks! I did set them up to get some reasonable drifting too, very exciting on the exits LOL!

I don't think I am communicating my point across well.

I understand about tyre heat and wear, I appreciate this is something that -has- to be included for LFS to make it more realistic.

I do not want these removed.

I have adapted to drifting in S2.

I'd have just liked to see drifting tyres as an option, which kind proves KiDCoDEa's point as being right I guess - I should have just posted that in the improvements section.

At least we all got to learn a little about irony.

Tanks for your understanding replies guys.

I like the tyre wear modeling in LFS, I like the tyre heat modeling too, it makes for more serious racing and less messing around.

I just feel that a lot of people took to LFS for drifting, and I appreciate that LFS was never originally made with that in mind. Like KiDCoDEa mentioned the problem would be sorted with being able to choose more suitable tyres. When S2 came out a lot of people pointed this out and it seemed attitude was "Who cares you shouldn't be drifting in this game anyway" and in some ways I can understand that.

What I liked about LFS was I could boot it up and let rip on my own on an empty track, drifting my little heart out until I got bored. Now I can barely do over a lap without needing to reset because the tyres have got so hot its like they are on the rim. That's how I played the game and I would -never- expect the developers to tailor it to me. But I do wonder how many others feel in the same boat.

Anyway, here's a random video of me drifting LOL

Why I Don't Play LFS Anymore

I started playing LFS a long time ago, up till just before S2 came out I would play it almost every day. I didn't really have friends to play online with much so I played by myself. I used it as practice on how to handle a rwd car.

As time went on the corrections to oversteer became controlled drifts. I enjoyed being able to control powerslides, people would talk about drifting on the forums it was fun. I didn't need another computer game.

Tweek came out and a lot of people complained. But I love it, I was fascinated by learning how the power effected the cars nature on the track. I had even more reason to play.

But since S2 came out I have played the game only a handfull of times and I pretty much know why. Firstly the tyre heat model was a welcome addition but it's pretty much ruined the game for me, this move by the developer pretty much made me aware I wasn't wanted as a customer to them. Touring the posts on here it quickly becomes apparent that as a member into drifting I'm not welcome here.

I think it's a real shame, we all play games for different reasons and I'd never question why someone would want to do it in their own way. I appreciate that the developers are in the persuit of simulation but still feel let down by them.

The point of this post is to out my views. I may get flamed for what I have said but that I can handle. I just think things like this are important to voice my feelings since people are trying to earn a living writing games like this.

LFS has brought some great pleasure into my life, ironically most of it was when the game was a free demo. At the moment I can't see any reason to buy S3 and fear there maybe many who feel the same.
