Quote from ymeshulin :If I may chime in with a recommendation, that would be driving faster cars for a change. That way you will train yourself to be faster and more precise with everything you do in a car.

I have tried this approach, and drove nothing but an FXR for a month. I was shocked how much more comfortable I was back in an XFG, and how much more small movements I was now able to do through the corner.

I'll give that a go too, I drive the FBM round there too but I guess that's not such a good comparison

Quote from bishtop :You can reset it via lfsworld by clicking on the current pb time, we also now have Blackwood Historic which does not have the chicane. I am far from fast on either with GTI but have many setups that may be of help if needed.

bish

Thanks, I might just do that then!

Interesting thread, I've recently come back and also struggling for form on blackwood.
Had no idea that blackwood had changed, means my pb on lfsworld set in 2011 is going to be even more unobtainable than it currently appears...(high 1:34)
Can those stats be reset? Doesn't seem like I'm comparing oranges with oranges based on what I've read above.

I'm very nervous when racing online about clipping other cars and I don't feel the mirrors (looking left and right) give me enough idea of what's around me.
Are there any mods out there that might help me?
I don't have another monitor to use but I have a laptop and wondered if it would be possible to show something on there that could help?

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks all, that's great for now.
My next n00b question is currently being prepared :P

Riiiight, ok.
I've found the bit in the car info about the gear boxes.. So as a general rule of thumb. If it's H I should be lifting, if it's sequential I don't need to?
Apart from the FBM. :P
Lifting to Shift

Playing with a Driving Force Pro and using the paddle shift I'm a bit confused as to gear shifting.
I tend to race all cars but sometimes struggle to establish whether I should be lifting off the gas or not to change gear.
I've learned that the slower road cars need the lift as I would expect but the single seaters and the FZR (and the other 2) I'm not sure about.
I'm ashamed to say I'm using downloaded setups and is it perhaps specified in those whether a lift is required or not?
This would explain why sometimes a lift is required in a specific car and other times not (changes with track I think)
I've been through the manual but not really found anything about how the auto clutch should be used (I don't have a cluch pedal).
Is there anything written down about how the gear changes work for the in game cars. I have destroyed my clutch a couple of times and assume it's because I'm incorrectly shifting. But it all seems a bit random.
Any help, greatly appreciated

I will come back and visit, been on the server a few times and have quite enjoyed my stay.

Seems this is a common problem though, glad I'm not the only one in some respects

Quote from 5haz :OT: Did you get your forum name from a song?

Might have done Looks like you know which one.

I was tempted to go investigate the ban but I figure I'm not gonna get 4 seconds a lap quicker in an instant so I'm better off away from it :P

I do love a busyish server (maybe not that big)
It can be a right laugh and it's great to finish on the podium knowing that I am slower than alot of racers there who have the inability to go round a corner in anything than 3 cars abreast :P

I didn't see a vote.
Happened pretty quickly so I just assumed admin. Might be wrong though, don't really know how it works.
I didn't upset any other racers to my knowledge though.
So many fast drivers, such bad racers

Just got myself banned from the [FM]Fox Junkies server for apparently being too slow through a corner.
Met with the message Learn to drive and was subsequently kicked.

Sure I was slow through the final corner but being myself a careful driver got me wondering why so many fast drivers are absolutely rubbish when you put them in a race situation.

I tend to slow down a touch into the first corner for example to give myself some time to drive around spinning cars and generally have a chuckle at the carnage.
Sometimes this works but most of the time I'm just rear ended by players who think they're on a hotlap with no other cars about.
And the same today, final corner on SO Town and bang! A quicker driver up my arse (no blue flag, we're on the same lap), I'm out fo the race, then out of the server for being crap.

What are the more inexperienced drivers supposed to do exactly?
I always pull over for blue flags but if you want to get past me in normal race conditions. Hey why not try overtaking????

This does not send out a good message to the inexperienced drivers and I would have thought these "admins" would be trying to encourage growth within this game, not create a little niche.
With on average around 1000 players online at any one time it seems it's the former that LFS needs....

Anyhoo, banned now so that's one less to clog up that server.

Happy Racing (I mean hotlapping....)

Can't get the lap logging to work at all now. Or the box that displays previous fuel level and fuel burnt in current lap.
Although everything else appears to respond as expected including the gauges and the box dusplaying current car/track.

Any thoughts mate?

cheers in advance

ok I think I have SP working now, but maybe not correctly.
I have changed my LFS receiving port from 800 to 801 and it now works.
not sure what to set the sending port too though.
I can get all the fuel levels and car/track details but it doesn't always log the lap details in the log window.
Any ideas? Maybe it's linked to this LFS sending port?

Just installed that mod it and it works perfectly.
And that was running from pc to laptop.
So I guess my outgauge comms works ok.

Hi there.
It won't work running on same machine either.
Will try and get another insim app, can you recommend something that's nice and easy to test perhaps?

I have the following shortcut to launch LFS

"D:\Games\Live For Speed\LFS.exe" /insim=801 and the following lines in my cfg.txt

OutGauge Mode 2
OutGauge Delay 1
OutGauge IP 192.168.0.10
OutGauge Port 802
OutGauge ID 0

IP above is IP of my laptop and is my SP IP

Spot anything I've done wrong?

Hi there, I'm still struggling I'm afraid.
Disabled Firewalls, no joy
Changed ports, no joy.
I can't see the message in LFS either when I initialise SP from my laptop.
I also can't get them to work when both running on same pc either though

Any more thoughts? I've allowed the ports in my router as well (if I needed too)

Hi there,
I'm really struggling getting this to work at the moment.
It always stays initializing and never connects to LFS.
I've tried running it on localhost and from a seperate laptop but the connection still never makes.
I've tried the ports you suggested in your instructions and another range altogether... Same happens.
Any ideas what the problem might be?
I'm not familiar with insim, I think the port is configured correctly (/insim command reports it correct anyway) but aside from that I'm not really sure what I should be doing with it.

Thanks for any help

Justin

Alot of racing games have them so it could be a case of paying for the patent like other developers would.
Or invent BadgerCar or something :P

Thanks ever so much for your help.
Just did pi in 32 secs, cpu temp is now 33 degrees instead of 19 as well
Interestingly the multiplier was set to 15 in the bios. I had to change the config from default to user defined however for it to make the actual difference.
Probably results from the change of cpu I did last week.
CPUz now reads 3000 MHz

thanks again

Took 52 secs to find the first iteration, didn't want to wait for the next 23 :P

Core speed still reads 1000MHz in cpuz
Driver 8

ok cpu-z is telling me the following

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Core Speed 1000 MHz
Multiplier x 5.0
Bus Speed 200 MHz
HT Link 1000 MHz

I thought the Core speed on this cpu should have been 3000 MHz..

Quote from Jakg :Are you sure your CPU is running at the right speed? That is WAY to slow for that setup.

I have a similar speed CPU and i get 35 fps + with 20 AI , there is NO way you should get 2!

I assume it's at the right speed, no clue how I would check though
