Possibly... I also just noticed my LFS folder was read only, so that was probably the issue.. Must have been because I copied it off my XP partition while logged into Vista..
Pattern recognition, statistics, same thing. Rather than doing out a specific math problem you have it learn by experience. If you train a net with enough different encounters, eventually it learns how to react to different situations and come out on top.
Well I've got the G25 but I find I haven't used the standard clutch much (or the 900 degree steering for that matter).. They may be more 'realistic' but if you want to compete with online racers its much easier to autoclutch it since that's what most people do. I still have a blast with the H-shifter though.
The main thing that I really hate about using standard clutch with the G25 is that I can't use the clutch pedal as the brake - and the brake pedal is so stiff that my chair rolls back before I can floor it all the way.. If I try to hit the brake all the way and clutch at the same time, the base shifts too.
You could run high speed simulations around the track a few times to train the net properly before the race starts. Would be interesting to see if it works anyway. But for a proper race you'd have to train it not only to go around the track but how to cope with all sorts of encounters with other cars on the track, which seems to me might take a lot of training.
I've been to a couple sites that explain what affect things like toe-in, stiffer suspensions and tire types have on a car.. I guess Im wondering though if anyone has written a FAQ specific to LFS that explains in layman's terms what affect each of the in-game settings will have on the handling characteristics.. If not, I think it'd be a great idea (I'd do it if I weren't completely ignorant myself)
I have no trouble drifting with 180 degree steering.. I feel like Im not using my G25 to its potential by running it at 180 degrees though... But whenever I get into a power slide/drift situation w/ 900 degree steering I spin the thing out.. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to hold the wheel to prevent the car from either A: sliding to a sideways halt or B: countersteering so severely that it spins in the other direction. Anyone have drifting experience with a 900 degree wheel?
Yes, licensed my copy last night.. I discovered STCC by racing on one of their servers.. Fun stuff.. Been watching their league race coverage all day at work today Now to decide whether the 10 year old Thrustmaster Nascar racing wheel I got for free is enough or if I should go all out and get the G25..
3rd largest is still only 13% of the total LFS population.. Nascar is very popular here in the states, but still, not every American LFSer likes Nascar .. You'd be catering to a very small % of the overall fanbase.
If someone were to build a nurburgring track it'd be immensely more popular.
Well I certainly haven't gotten bored of winning yet. I still have yet to break 1:37 on BL GP with the GTI.. No point really in graduating to tougher cars until I can get a semi decent time in the noob one..
Silly question though... When I had the ban vote going for this guy, I got the message "Macel took over for Hakkinen RUS" and all of a sudden the ban vote I had going for the other guy switched to me.. Which is how I got banned... What the heck happened there?
Some jerk was deliberately crashing on LFS demo league.. Started a ban vote against him and ended up getting banned myself for no reason (guess he had friends)... Real good way of encouraging new people to play.. Feels like Im playing UO as a noob all over again..
I found a friend's crappy old thrustmaster pro digital 2 steering wheel (this thing is ancient) and pedals and played some online action this morning.. Something about this game makes it sooo much more enjoyable than WTCC for me.. The physics and the way the cars react to certain maneuvers is really cool. Now to summon up the courage to dish out 250 bucks for a G25..
I'm just wondering how big a following this game has in multiplayer as compared to say GTR 2/RACE WTCC/rFactor...
I'm going to be picking up a G25 racing wheel soon, partly for GT4 on the PS2 and partly for a hard core PC racing sim.. But I don't want to pick up a game that I will have trouble getting some multiplayer action in.. I came here because LFS seems to have the most enthusiastic reviews.. Though GTR 2 and RACE WTCC seem to have more of a following in the US?
