Strange virus...
Yesterday i got a virus, every say 4 minutes it plays something from a Japanese movie in the background like music, two people talking in Japanese and then what sounds like one of them falling from a cliff or something, anyway, even though it sounds like really funny, its pissing me off now! Nothing is open like windows media player or anything, anyone come across it and know how to get rid of it because it takes me out of LFS and makes my computer lag pretty bad when it comes on. Its only just started again after not playing for about 10 or so hours :\
Run search and destroy + your anti virus?
Whats search and destroy? I don't have an anti virus (windows defender which is crap), used to have AVG but it messed with my computer because i have and old McAfee and defender :\
Spyware Terminator, Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes..
Search and destory get's rid of all spyware, ect.

download the free version of AVG and run a system scan. o.O

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is pretty good along with Avast or AVG free editions. They should help clean it up, if not you'll have to invest in proper AV protection, remove it manually or get somebody else to do it for you.

The best Anti-Virus I've used is Kaspersky Anti-Virus, yearly subscription but does a good job of keeping the system clean and doesn't use up too much system resources. The worst 2 are Norton and Mcafee by a long long way, avoid them!

Pearcy try system restore, if not, download some free antivirus like avast

DO NOT try system restore... the first place viruses tend to attack is System restore... It just makes matters far far worse.

Well he needs to find out what type of virus it is, so download Avast and run a scan see if it can get rid of the LITTE BUGGER.

Edit: I use McAfee it seems ok to me, plus I got it for fweeeee
Gosh, the problem isnt the Virus. It's because of porn sites are getting more populair.

Like mentioned above dont do system restore. Try to run AVAST/Antivir on safe mode.

BTW, that doesnt sound like a virus to me. It's a spyaware.

Download Ad-Aware and run it on safe mode.
and try HijackThis, but make sure you know what you're looking for first
The idea is he posts his hijack this log here so we can read it and tell him where the problem lays

McAfee got the "standard" award in the august edition of AV-Comparatives.org (this means it's not the best choice of AV since it's below other 15 antivirus programs, including Microsoft One Care)
Antivirus that received the ADVANCED+ award (this means the best antivirus programs, listed in the order the website says):
AVIRA, GDATA, Symantec (Norton AV), McAfee(Enterprise Edition), Avast, TrustPort, Kaspersky, AVG

*That unless you are using the Enterprise Edition of McAfee (which earns the ADVANCED+ award).

@ pearcy_2k7: I would suggest you download the trial version of Norton Antivirus 2009 and run a complete system scan.

Sorry to come into this but working in a small computer shop I see every day what Norton does to computers, includes slowing them down to below snails speed, and when it wants a license renewal it really does mess up the system until it is removed (using the removal tool, add/remove programs just doesn't do it!), it generally does more bad than good to PCs. Removing Norton from a PC gives a speed increase more than a memory upgrade does, for Norton users it's the cheapest way to upgrade your computer!

I'd never recommend Norton to anybody at all, and advise anybody with Norton to get rid of it once they have gone and got some decent AV protection. Same goes for Mcafee.

If you want to go free, use AVG or Avast.
Glad to see that I run two of the best (AVG and Avast!, even though they're the free ones) side by side.

That's interesting, but how can you explain Norton being listed as the 3rd best antivirus from the whole list of antivirus that AV-Comparatives tests?

I use Norton Antivirus since 1999 in the four computers I have and I've never had any problems with it at all. I'm using Norton 360 2.0 (2008 edition) and It's the best antivirus I've ever used, and the 2009 version is even better and more well optimized.
It only measures the effectiveness as an anti-virus, and not what effects it would otherwise have on your PC.

No, they actually measure the effectiveness as an anti-virus, the false alarms it can give, the speed of the scan etc, and when it comes speed, Norton is THE FASTEST antivirus on PC scans.

Not arguing with that mate, but mr_x was talking about how Norton slows your PC down. Might explain why it's so quick at scanning.

It slows the PC down, the PC responds slowly. Norton scans quickly. Both can be true.

I can play LFS and STEAM Games (such as HL2 Ep2, FlatOut Ultimate Carnage etc) with absolutely no FPS drops while making a full pc scan with Norton360
I really don't think it slows the PC down, at least not mine, and my processor is not that good: Pentium D 2.8Ghz.
Using Norton is like using an A-Bomb to squash a fly. Sure, it does scans fast, not many false positives, but the way it bogs down even a somewhat above average PC like mine is pretty much unbearable.

Use Kaspersky or NOD.
Well, that may be true, but let's face it. Nothing Steamish (Anything with the Source engine or Flatout) is systems intense. You may have a top end rig, who knows. But it's a well categorized fact that having some editions of Norton will slow your PC down (Some more than others)
you should run AntiVir PE Classic it got rid of all my virus's none are back either.

Now actually you're right about different editions.
Symantec modified their engine from 2007 to 2008 and 2009, this means Norton is faster and have less performance drops in every computer and the antivirus is more well optimized now. If you take a 2007 edition and compare it to the 2008 or 2009 edition you'll see how much they're different.

PS: I have bioshock on steam too and it doesn't have performance drops when scanning I bought my processor in 2004 (it's actually the oldest part of my pc)
tbh, when I was reading it, I really thought you meant a virus that people get....I feel stupid...
