Hello!

Normaly I use my On-Board Soundcard with no problems.

But I also use my USB Headset sometimes when my wife is watching TV or so...

With the USB Headset I have a very scatchy sound...

There is no diffenece if I use the WinXP own driver or install the driver CD - exept for a sound I dont like... the Windows driver sounds better in my opinion..

Today I got a 5.1 USB Soundcard from a friend to test - the same probem...

Any clue?

USB headset? Unless it has a mic, never heard of such thing. Perhaps buy a cheap pair of over the head headphones that go into a typical sound jack.

Headsets with USB are of higher quality sound than ones with a typical sound jack because there is less background noise and 'scratchiness' from the wire itself.

Anyways, I have a USB headset also, and when i plugged mine in I got the same thing as you - low quality sound and scratchy mic. It seems i plugged it into a low quality/power/null USB port on my sd card reader. I switched to a motherboard USB port and all was well.

hmm...

ok.. the Headset I plug in in front USB connectors - may be they have too low power... I will test it on the MoBo Connector...

But the USB Soundcard I connected at the MoBo USB Slot... same scratchy result on PitSpotter Output...

The Sound Quality litening to MP3s for my ears is GREAT (using a Mac - Windows PC only for LFS )

not an audiophile so i wouldnt be able to tell the difference between the soundcard of my $99 usb headset and one using a $500 soundcard

Yes you would - I thought the same until I bought a decent sound card but you would notice the difference.

I really get annoyed at USB being a "solution" - it's just extra CPU overhead and cuts out any decent kit I have...

Yeah you really would. You just say that because you havn't tried a $500 soundcard.
