Router connection problems
Hi all...I figured this is as good a place as any to put this.

Basically, my router won't maintain a connection for longer than 5 minutes. I can be racing, then bang, I lose connection and lag out. Same with web pages, it just cuts off the connection. I dunno why

I've tried adjusting router settings, no luck. I've tried adjusting the channel the router broadcasts on, to avoid conflicts with phones and stuff, again, no luck.

I'm beginning to think it's my wireless card, but I've only had it a few months.

I'm running out of ideas, and not wanting to call TalkTalk's tech (dis)support hotline.

Since you mentioned a wireless card, when it drops do you loose wireless connection as well? Or do you just loose the ability to access the rest of the internet?

Most decent routers have logs; check that for the connection dropping, or other events and see if you can find a pattern. If you see the DSL dropping in the logs then it's off to TalkTalk, I'm afraid. It may be worth firmware upgrading the router, just incase something odd has happened, however. You'll usually loose all your settings if you do this, however.
Karl you fogot one thing. His walls might be foil backed if so that will reflect the signal. When i tried using the wireless mode on my router it didn't work so i had to run wires from it to my pc. Fang run the wires when u're family have gone out so they don't know lol.

btw like my dp it's porn?
It varies,s ometimes I can still surf the Web, but most of the time, I can't do anything. And somethimes it just cuts out without me doing anything, usually when the TV's on. I've tried changing the channel, no luck.

I checked the logs, it said:

Loss of synchronisation:9
LCP is down
LCP is allowed to come up
CHAP authentication successful

I'm tempted to firmware upgrade it, but my parents (who /paid/ for it) insist there's no problem...Grr

Say i'm tech support and it needs firm wiring.
That...won't work.

Unless I get SamH or Jakg or somebody to demonstrate what's going on

DK
whats going on?
???

I meant my fam won't let me change anything on the router (but I do anyway...weak passwords FTW!)

The DSL is dropping - this could be due to a number of things. Your provider could debug it quicker than anyone here, since its something that they really need to sort, if its not a local problem.
How so, call them?

Could replacing the filter work? It got damaged

If the microfilter isn't doing it's job, then it's entirely possible that replacing it can fix the issue.
