19: The Cavendish Arms, Stockwell, SW8 2HJ

I can't keep this up-to-date, turns out it's more hassle than I'd expected, so check www.albanydown.com instead. It's much prettier anyway.

Hoping to get to the Brunswick Blues & Jazz Festival in Canada this year. You can help out at http://bit.ly/adbrunswick
Supposed to be touring Europe if our A&R company ever gets their finger out.

ABOUT US

Upcoming Gigs
27 Jan - The Bull & Gate, Kentish Town, London (10pm)*
01 Feb - The Junction, Cambridge
01 Mar - The Cavern, Liverpool
15 Apr - The Junction, Cambridge

I seem to recall another band that started there in the sixties...they became quite famous IIRC

Good Luck, and if you ever get a gig in Oxford, let me know
Not really my cup of soup, but good luck with it. You need to play a bit more than once a month you lazy arses.
Bah, that's only the confirmed dates.
We've done a couple of things this month so far and obviously smaller venues don't need 4 months notice

But it's the Emergenza festival thing we're most excited about. The final is in Berlin to a crowd of 25-30,000 people. That's the kind of thing I dream of!
Cavern gig updated. Apparently some inconsiderate swine stole the original date for an album release!

And the flyer for the 1st Feb gig at the Junction.

I like the name, I like the sound, I likes.

EDIT: You guys should play at the LFS meet up, since it is up north this time. I won't be there but it might be a good gig.
I'd like to play there, but we're London-based so it'd be a bit of a trek, especially for an unpaid event At that'd only be if I could talk the others into it in the first place!

So I guess folks will just have to wait until we play somewhere closer
Yay, another gig added and a good excuse to bump this back to page 1!

22nd Feb, Camden. Be there, or be somewhere else.
Better be coming down to play the Big Day Out sooner or later mate wouldnt mind hearing you play.
When you come to the South West, I'll come and watch!

You guys seem very promising. Good luck to you all.
I was gonna say that leaving the London area might be a little way off, but then Liverpool is quite a way out And outside of the UK is even less likely in the short term!

But I guess we'll be playing all over the shop soon, you just need to keep watching this thread
Another Camden gig added - 5th March at the Oh! Bar.

I also removed the 11th April one since it seems that one wasn't confirmed after all.

Remember, if you can make it to Kentish Town this Sunday, we'd appreciate all the support we can get!
#13 - 5haz
Nice, some nice riffs in there.

Im especially loving the song 'away' reminds me of Kiss somehow
Wow, I really like your sound!

Can you come to the US?

Main complaint about a lot of bands is an annoying singer. You guys don't seem to have that problem.
Glad you like it. I am willing to accept cheques on behalf of the band

But let us do some work in the UK before we throw ourselves to the baying worldwide masses, eh? I'll be in TN for the first 2 weeks in May - does that count as a tour? How about if I buy a guitar and do some busking while I'm there?
And another competition gig added for April 6th in London.

Surface Unsigned 2008 is another competition where it's all about the votes. The more people stick their hands in the air then the more likely we are to get to the next stage. Final is sometime in about November at the Birmingham NEC. Rounds before that are all over the UK. We're in the southern region so obviously start down here

From Feb 1st you can vote for our band by SMS message. It'll cost you £1 (plus your network rate) but 20% of that quid goes to charity, so it can't be all bad. More details on that nearer the time.

And while I'm here I might as well pimp the new YouTube video introducing our new bassist. Sound quality isn't great, but what do you expect from a digital camcorder?
/me votes that Albany Down do a DECENT recording of that and upload teh MP3 to here, so we can listen to it properly

Didn't sound like a bad track, apart from the crap quality sound...but what baffles me is: Who trod on your foot during the intro?
Gig Review: Bull & Gate, Kentish Town - 27th Jan
Well it was a night of both good and bad.

Of the 8 bands due to play, 3 of them never showed up. As a result, we all got an extra song and they weren't quite as strict about the transitions. It also meant that they were only putting 3 bands though instead of the planned 4.

There was only one really good band - Free Reign - and 2 that were pretty crap. Unfortunately, because it seems like the crap bands managed to get a load of people to come and support them, the odds are at least one of them is going through to the next round.

Our set went pretty well. Amazingly, I didn't forget a single lyric (which impressed everyone who knows my usual methods of just making up random lines on-stage) and apparently the front of house sound was pretty good. Couldn't hear any vocals from the monitors, but apparently I was in tune anyway.
Reactions from the people who were there was good. What really pissed me off though, was that the people supporting one particular band buggered off when someone else was playing, meaning a couple of bands played to a packed room and guaranteed a lot of votes, despite not being all that great. Pissed me off, I tells ya.

Still, we sounded good and there should be video footage of the whole set and a load of photos to go with it. Our website will be bulking up nicely

I didn't stay to the end so I've no idea if we got through or not. It wasn't looking overly likely though, since the crap bands brought more people than the good ones. But the important thing is we played well.

This Friday we're off to Cambridge, and since our guitarist's sister is at Uni there, we're hoping she'll be bringing a load of her friends along to scream and throw underwear or something
What a fantastic gig, absolutely awesome.

Apparently the Junction holds up to 800 people. Shame there was nowhere near that many in there for the bands. Maybe next time.

But the crowd was really good and we all had great fun. There's video up of some of the songs we played. Obviously because it was just done on a handheld camera the sound quality isn't that great, but it's not bad considering.
Couldn't hear a damn thing in my monitors on stage either, but apparently I was in tune

2 songs in 1 video.
Now a bit of relaxation before our next gig on the 22nd.
Not a rock fan, but sounds good! If you ever come to Belgium... Count me in, not sure how you dance at rock ? Do you even dance at rock ?

Good luck
I really liked that first song. Especially from 2 minutes onwards.

Looked and sounded good, cant wait for a 'clean' audio track though!

Did your axemans sis turn up with her buddies as hoped??
Quote from Bladerunner :Did your axemans sis turn up with her buddies as hoped??

Yes she did, although again not as many as she'd asked to come. She brought maybe 8 of them, plus the rest of his family meant we had a dozen or so people to see just us. Then obviously the people for the other bands and the folks there just to get boozed up (or since it was only a 14+ age restriction, fizzed up ).

If I had to guess I'd put the crowd around maybe 100 people, maybe 130 or 140 if you include the staff. Not that many, but they made one hell of an atmosphere.

I tell you though, seeing all these kids run around doesn't half make me feel old
ROFL.

They just uploaded the video of us jamming some porn music at the end of rehearsal yesterday. I think it needs to be turned into a proper song because it's a catchy riff.

Me on the guitar, so I apologise for the lack of skill, but I had to link it
Porn Music in C
Your bassist needs an envelope filter.

And a felt fedora.

And your C-maj sounds like everybody else's Dm.
