The idea is to use the score as a recommendation - ie LFS needs a rating of 2 (thats made up btw), so you know that your PC can or can't play it.

Of course the fact that my Quad will score a 5.9 at stock (2.13 GHz), and theres a 3.2 GHz E6750 up there only getting 5.7 means that for a single threaded app it's totally ****ed, but meh.

At the end of the day if you want a proper benchmark, you've got SuperPi / 3DMark. This is just a bit of fun :P

EDIT - WTF. Whoevers got 5.9 on their HDD's, i wanna know models and manufacturers, configurations etc. I just hope they aren't marking me down for "only" having 320 GB of storage (hey, since i got a girlfriend i don't need a TB of Porn thanks)

Well I would say LFS needs like 1.5 if flight sim requires only a 3.0

LFS uses much more CPU power than GFX power, HDD speed is (almost) irrelevant etc.

It's a very flawed system, but they are trying to dumb it down enough so that even a fool can use it. Unfortunately they just can't keep up with the ineptnesses of some people...!

I got 2 of these (Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache), Setup in single i got 5.7 on vista and i got one more for raid0 which got 5.9
hahahaha my hdd is standard from my original pc think its a maxitor 80gb that runs my operating systems lol ive got 4 other 320gbs on raid but it only looks at the main hdd with the operating system

and i got a 5.7
and my cpu e6550 gets a 5.3 @ 2.33ghz and i think its crap lol
and a 5.0 for a 256 gfx card that cost next to nothing! gah think this is crap
Jakg...I got a 5.8 with my Western Digital 500Gb 7200 SATA 2 as a standalone drive (no RAID)
Wonder what two of them would give in RAID
hahahaha, fantastic topic renaming! kudos to the mod responsible!

Do you know the code for each drive (ie AAJS or AAKS)?

I wonder if my drives are set to work in SATA2 mode, hmm.....
yea i just noticed that who changed my post name!

The only way you can get a 5.9 for HDD is when you have a 10k/15k rpm drive everything less than that will have a max of 5.8
Well that subtle change in thread title certainly put people off posting!

This whole Vista thing is bullcrap.

My uncle just bought a 8600GTS recently and Vista scored that as 1.0

Wonder what score a 8800GT get's.

I think Jakg said in another post that if you get a score of 1 it means something is wrong with that device, either its not installed or working correctly, could be drivers or somehting like that.

But the 8600GTS is shitty anyway, you'd be better off with a high end 7 series card. And you can't even compare it to a 8800 series card.

Just look at this thread, the one you posted in...about Vista scores, to get an idea of what a 8800 series card will get....http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=655137#post655137
His 8600Gts seems to working fine.

that the 8800GT scored 5.9 in vista's speccrap is funny..

5.9 = Maximum you can get. 1 = Device not recognised.

My 7950GT gets 5.9, as does this 8800GTX. Therefore i'd expect an 8600GTS would get a 5.9, too.
My 8600GTS gets a 5.6, and my 15K SAS Raid 0 gets a 5.9. So there's the way to get a 5.9 for disk!
#45 - Jakg
A 15,000 RPM set of SAS drives? Oh thats just pocket change that is!

I meant a single drive solution - i'd be interested to see what a 7200.11 or a single Raptor were to get.
Thats weird
I have a couple of old Maxtor SATA2 drives 80gb 7200rpm RAID 0 and i get 5.9??? Glad i didnt bother with Raptors.
#47 - arco
I have a couple Samsung SP2504C SATA2 disks in RAID0, and also gets 5.9.
To be honest, my 15K SAS drivers are only 36g x2 in RAID 0. So the drives are around $100ea, and the controller was $80. So it's really close to a single raptor of the same size. After that my storage is just a typical SATA Seagate.
