The online racing simulator
The way to get license of real car & track?
The car maker in China who want to sell their cars to Euro & USA like Geely, they need to promot theirselves, & LFS is a good way, can LFS talk to them to let them give license to us, then LFS can help them to promot their car in Euro & USA?
Than, the race track & street cirect can do the same things, There is HK street Circut in GT4 because HK Gov give many $ to GT4. if LFS don't need their $, but can do the same thing to them......
I don't see it happening, LFS has never based its position on production vehicles, I don't think it ever will be either, and hope it wont too.

As for streets, there is a good discussion about Monaco, known as Cote d'Azur in GT4 because of licensing, it is hard to get a hold of the actual track, but I believe my comment on that track can be compared to this situation.

TOCA is nowhere near GT4. more like Test Drive Unlimited i think.
GT4 is just car porn really, it's not even fun in GT mode without using gameshark or similar on GT3.
ISI's (rFactor) has released many real tracks without any licence, obviously without any kind of official logo.

Monza=Brianza
Shanghai=Jiading
Silverstone=Northamptonshire
Nurburgring=Nurgurg

it's a legal trick i know, but it's feasible... i don't know if it fit to the cars.

As 3d trackmaker and LFS lover, i really hope to use this sim on real track, no matter about pixel shaders or dynamic day/night transitions or rain reflections.
The clue is the how fun is the simdriving of those cars, that is unbeatable. Stock tracks are nicely done and as 3dsmax user i see HOW a track is modeled and shaded, multimaps, a lot of vertex paint that simulates shadows, few 8 bit alphas and a lot of 1 bit alpha, nice modeling on road and kerbs.
Those track are credibles but i hope to...... one day...... spend some time on a track for this sim.

I've started with porting tracks in GTR and i've learned a lot on ISI's engines, and in January we have released the first freely licensed track for rFactor, done by scratch by myself and my mate Madhorse, gathering datas directly from the track managers, they leave us the space to gather reference photos of anything, and supporting us in any way, going around the track freely... and the final product was a hit.

Now i'm on the historic track Rouen for Virtua_LM crew.

Here it is, the track we have done in 5 months in spare time with the good mod of Brazilian Superclio Champ.

The track is here, in .max format ready to migrate, with the track managers approving.
It's perfect for drifting and small single seaters and hosts touring cars championships and Italian F3 Championship and lot of motorbike events.

I really hope on that with S3 .. but we have no hurry.

You guys are fantastic, really, this sim is awesome an deserve a little bit of quality modding in the future, not the mess that i see on rFactor.
Yes.. there are a lot of mods, but sometimes are poor on quality, so a quality check will be a nice chance to get rid of poor material, and at the same time, push the modders to create better material.

LFS need tracks, not cars i think, stock cars are fun and already cover a wide range of sim tastes.

best regards.

Gabriele Bonora AKA elwood.
A cheaper licensing option could be to use failed prototype supercars

eg.. the Australian Joss Supercar

Mid Engine 6.8 Litre V8
500 hp in a 940kg car

Dealing with bankupt car builders could prove an inexpensive option..

Jiading is a place in Shanghai where the circut is

ya, it is fit, the old version of Wangan Midnight club, Shuto Kousoku & the 911 in Wangan is also like this
e.g.:
AE86 Levin=Type 86 L
RX7 FD3S=Type FD
AE86 Trueno=Type 86 T
#8 - JJ72
bottomline is no one wants a Geeley.
geely is just a example
I agree, being able to race on real existing tracks would be fantastic. I realize that they probably charge and arm and a leg for their BS licensing schemes, so that's why I think elwood's suggestion makes sense. What might be better is just to name the country/state/etc where it's located (I don't think they can sue you for naming a country )

Eg.:
Britain = Silverstone
California = Laguna Seca
Canada = Montreal
Netherlands/Holland = Zandvoort
Germany = Nurburgring Nordschleife
Germany F1 = Nurbugring

...and so on and so forth.
The likeness of the track needs a license too, so the naming it differently doesn't work. I don't know how ISI did it, but I guess they got their licenses a bit cheaper when they didn't use the real names, but I am sure they have some legal arrangment with the tracks.

Pro Evolution Soccerising names is just silly, if Snoop Dog sued someone for using some permutation in some catchphrase of his I feel sure that someone could be sued for using a PESised name.

And you can't call Silverstone Northamptonshire - part of it is in Bucks. And if it is called Northampton, it could equally be called Milton Keynes as it is roughly equidicent between the two.

And I doubt anyone would want a Geeley, all the pics of Chinese cars make them look crap, dangerous and based on old technology. Dealing with bankrupt makes (like the Joss) might be an idea. As would going to dudes like Dennis (Mr. DP1). If we found people like him maybe. The DP1 in LFS would be great. Cornering like glue.
Melling Hellcat? That car would RULE ...

It's the only car so fast, they have to knobble it for racing. 1200HP and 275 or so MPH top speed for the road car.
Hold on, hold on.

The devs have done it before with the RA, and the LX. They might also do the same with these cars. They would be more likey to pick out the best cars how ever to represent the brand then anything else.
