"And I want everyone that does post to agree with me."

good luck with that!

It's not the ol' USSR or modern Washington DC or FOX News, it's a web forum. If you'd been around longer than a month you'd realise that differences of opinion are what make forums thrive - especially this one.

Also, demanding that anyone who disagrees with you remain quiet is only going to make them want to post even more

As for the RX7 I think the best arguments have been made already (cost of licensing too high for an indie 3-man dev team, the torqueless 13B engine, over-rated car in stock form, XRT pwnz it etc.) so I'll leave it at that
Quote from Hankstar :differences of opinion are what make forums thrive - especially this one.

Rubbish!

sorry
Quote from tristancliffe :The RX-7 isn't all that bad on a track. Gutless admittedly, but that's the engine for you. And totally useless on the public road. But I'd still rather stick with an engine that produces some torque. XRT anyone?

Racially derogative? So are you saying only black people or non-caucasian people are ricers? Or do you not understand the term 'racial'?

Huh?? Im confused..I said that --

Rice refers to asians, which is alraedy derogative.

Ricers means that only asians can have these kind of cars

It also defines a stereotype when people use the word ricers to say that they dislike how a car is.

Otherwise I don't understand what you mean My best friend is black..

....And so the straws begin splitting; twenty post later this will argued into dust.

Are you a psychic?
LOL why dont drifters just use XRT.. its beyond me (no offence).

i think we should make LFS bit more exciting..

I know the MRT is like a go-kart but i think its more lik a buggy and i hate it. some small tracks to go along with it would be nice awell just for go-karts.

also id like something really fast like an enzo or a zonda.. anything solong as its fast and is a roadcar NOT gtr..

i just think it would make it a bit more intersting thats all..

comments are welcome good or bad.
Stay on topic everyone, or this thread gets the MasterLock.

Um ... you are!

Lol, lolly lol =]

Ok, well, back on topic. I've nothing much to add except to reiterate that the XRT (and its GTR big sister) fills the Japanese-ish RWD coupe slot quite nicely and would more than likely leave an RX7 in its dust. For a new car I'd much prefer a high-powered 4WD rally car (RB4 Rally - RBY?) and some more dirt to another RWD coupe ...

Well, it came from "rice burner", a derogatory name for Japanese import cars in the USA. So we ended up with "ricing" meaning what it does because it was typically Japanese imports that got the bodykit treatment.

I suppose it does have roots in racism, but the term itself - "ricer" - doesn't stereotype the Japanese. It's anyone who buys a cheap car and creates a GRP USS Enterprise out of it.

Your thread-hijacking powers are weak, old man! :jedi:

Quitter!
Quote from Cr!t!calDrift :Is very racially derogative.

My use of the term "rice boy" comes from a site that was created donkey's years ago, Bryan's Rice Boy Page:
Who/What Exactly Is a Rice-Boy?

Rice-Boy is a stereotype. The typical Rice-Boy can be identified by his car, or rather what he does to it. Generally, Rice-Boy will start out with a car that was not meant to go fast (typically a Honda Civic), and attempt to "fix it up," usually consisting of aftermarket rims, lowering springs and an aftermarket exhaust system with a large exhaust tip.
Most Rice-Boy cars (or "Rice Rockets") have the usual complement of stickers proudly displaying features that the car might or might not have, most notably, the Honda VTEC sticker from the later model Preludes, and the plaques from the later model Integras. Rice-Boys do not exclusively drive Japanese cars. There are quite a few fake Mustang '5.0's and Camaro Z28's out there, as well as quite a few strange looking Neons.

I didnt see anything racialy motivated in that description. Also check this out: Disclaimer:
The term "Rice-Boy" is meant to be a derogatory term. But not racially derogatory. Some people might say that regardless of what this disclaimer says, it makes Asians look bad. Well, I hate to break it to these people but asians are not the only people on this planet who eat rice. Everyone eats rice. White people eat rice. Black people eat rice. Native Americans? They eat rice. Europeans eat rice!! And, if you open your eyes, you might notice that a whole lot of the rice-boys out there aren't even asian! The "rice" really refers to their cars. It's not about their race, it's about their attitude!

But anyway...Ive also driven an RX7...wasnt anything special to me. Pretty sexy car, but nothing to write home about.
I loved 'em when I was a kid. They had pop-up headlights which I thought was the coolest thing ever (after car cassette players - god I'm old :geezer. Of course, the illusion was over when I actually drove a stock Series 4 as a teenager. Fun, yes (any car that's not yours is always fun, even a Hyundai Getz), but it was no 2.0 Alfetta or Mini Cooper (old UK, not new German)

Of course, I've had some frighteningly wicked rides in modified RX7s that belonged to friends, but all that taught me was that RX7s pretty much need aftermarket bits to be any sort of contender
Eh..the problem is that people say asians are rice lovers. In fact just today (i'm half filipino, half portuguese; I look totally asian) i was called too poor to afford a car and that i should just stick to my rice...

And the XRT is the next best thing to RX7. Although a way to change the 3D model would be nice.
Quote from thisnameistaken :Well, it came from "rice burner", a derogatory name for Japanese import cars in the USA. So we ended up with "ricing" meaning what it does because it was typically Japanese imports that got the bodykit treatment.

Actually it came from WWII when the Japanese started using rice oil due to the fact America had a trade embargo on Japan for oil, and they were so limited on supplies that they had to use something else, so they went to rice oil, hence "rice burner".
Damn. People can really suck when they put their minds to it (or, rather, when they don't).

The fact is, though, that "ricer" or "riceboy" in car circles isn't used as a racial thing (as explained above), just a stab at people who spend more on stickers and external junk than they do on improving the performance. It's not the only term though: in the UK they get called "barry boys" (gawd knows why), in Oz they get called "f'ing wankers" (which is self-explanatory) Anyone else got any car-based non-racial insults?

BTW, let's not change the XRT model. I like its late-1980s RX7/Starion look. Very nostalgic  Although, if Eric wanted to do a late 90s model one of these days I'd dig it
My dad refers to guys that drive skylines as skylord's LOL
Quote from Hankstar :...in Oz they get called "f'ing wankers" (which is self-explanatory)

Oz kicks ass.
Quote from Cr!t!calDrift :(i'm half filipino, half portuguese; I look totally asian)

I am half Norweigian and half Danish, I look totally European.

Quote from Hankstar :in the UK they get called "barry boys" (gawd knows why)

That's a relatively new term. When I was a kid they were called...

Kevs!

Quote from jayhawk :I am half Norweigian and half Danish, I look totally European.

I am 100% English, I look a bit Norwegian or Danish or Swedish.
I'm 100% non-indigenous white Australian, which means I look like hisnameiskevin (only slightly better-looking).

Why'd they call 'em "Kevs", Kev? Were you a Kev? Are you a Barry?

Quote from MAGGOT :Oz kicks ass.

We like to call a tool a tool, as they say
Quote from Hankstar :I'm 100% non-indigenous white Australian, which means I look like hisnameiskevin (only slightly better-looking).

Meaning you look just like me, except less handsome

Any hope of being able to modfy cars just like nfscars.com ?
In case you're all wondering, the term "ricer" was originally meant to refer to any asian guy who had enough love and passion for his car to modify it in a constructive manner and bring it to its full potential. Something like reprogramming/changing a Lancer Evolution XI's ECU coupled with a 3 inch exhasust system to severely reduce backpressure whilst increasing power, torque, reliability, efficiency and drivability. Or installing well specified springs and adjsutable dampers via a height adjustable coilover system. It was meant to be a compliment to any asian guy who loves cars.

Unfortunately, it's meaning has now been changed to a derogatory/insulting manner to suit the twisted desires who indulge in racial slurs and racism in general. Silly movies like FnF don't help either, having shown only the dark side of car culture that's so overglorified that genuine asian car enthusiasts become part of this overgeneralization. Silly bodykits that make no real sense such as body cladding along the arches that don't allow seriously larger wheels and tires or triple spoilers on the boot with questionable aero don't make any sense to the true enthusiast. Neither do Honda civics lowered 3 inches (no bump travel left) and equiped with 18 inch wheels shod with rubber bands.

BTW, the RX-7 IS a car of great potential, with so many fine traits such as a lightweight engine and excellent mass location and balance (virtually 50/50) due to its lightweight and compact rotary engine. It's not really an F/R car, it is in fact a MF(Mid Front)/R car. The agility derived from its sheer lack of inertia can never be replicated with the XFs.

We all know how horribly troublesome it will be to actaully put the real RX-7 in LFS, but aren't the XFs already very close if not exact copies of the RL Mitsubishi Starion? Of course, some major details are still wrong (thanks to the persistant turbo modelling issues), but all the other significant details from mass destribution to suspension type and behavior are remarkably close to the real thing. The XFs aren't called Starions of course, and this highlights my plan for the RX-7 suggestion.

Why not just add an RX-7 FC or FD like car somewhere down the line in LFS's long development? Of course, DON'T call it Mazda RX-7, maybe some name like MFRR (mid front engined rwd). Use the real things as templates to start with.

BTW, the RL OEM twin-turbo RX-7 FD wasn't terribly impressive. Power was decent (around 250hp) and torque was quite decent with a pretty acceptable midrange. The problem was its twin sequential turbo system. Fiendishly complex and prone to electrical problems, it still resulted in hole in the powerband somewhere along the rev range which I can't remember for now. Acceleration numbers weren't terribly impressive, at around 6.6 seconds to 60mph. Handling was amazingly good even with OEM wheels and tires, but the suspension was so amazingly stiff (especially on the sportiest models) that you'll need kidney belts to survive the pothole ridden streets so prevalent in RL unscathed. Oil consumption of a quart every 3000 miles was perfectly normal. No to mention the need for frequent apex seal replacements.
I really can't be arsed to read the rest of the thread, but surely the XRT with a rotary would be a good thing?, it would be nice to see a rotary somewhere in LFS
XRT has MacPherson strut suspension all around whereas 3rd gen RX7 has double wishbones. Other differences have already been brought up in this thread.
MacPherson struts all the way around isnt really feasble in a real car. rather than putting in a real car, i rather see the rear suspension model changed to a multi link setup (like the 2nd gen rx7), or maybe even a older rear wheel drive car setup with a live axle (like the 1st gen rx7).

This is how I see it, you may not, if that's the case, don't bother posting. As if I see a word in your sentance flaming me, I'll simply ignore your comment. Thanks.

Note: If you don't have anything good to say, don't post.

That's the way I see it.

That's not the way I see it.

Thanks.

By the way, if you've already seen the post which would allow you to determine whether it flames you or not, then it is too late to ignore it, right?

Logic!
I don't like to get involved in flame wars and have never seen any of the FnF films (and have no interest in doing so), but I have to say this.

I think the RX-8 is a far more beautiful car and looks like it wants to be a Viper when it grows up

Mmmmm.
Quote from Hankstar :Why'd they call 'em "Kevs", Kev? Were you a Kev? Are you a Barry?

I think it was because of those windscreen stickers years ago that had couples' names on. The most commonly-sighted one (according to legend) featured the names Kevin and Tracey.

They were always on Escorts and Capris. And occasionally a Vauxhall Viva.
