Is the South City reflection not quite right? [custom textures]
I was looking at a replay of a recent race I was in and just happened to notice the reflection in the roof of my car. If you'll notice, it seems to be a seascape with buildings on the far shore and trees closer up. Now don't get me wrong, but I thought South City was a concrete jungle type area, and that the reflection should have been a sky as I was looking down onto the roof.

Maybe its supposed to look like that so it can make it look more like sky to the casual viewer?

Stupid question, but are you maybe using custom reflection textures?

I'm not sure, just had a quick look through the LFS S2 P full installation package, but none of the environment maps were that hi-res/detailed, nor did they have any trees on them. I guess your "problem" is self made

I don't think so, but I have downloaded updated sky textures before, but can't remember if South City was one of them. Would that cause them to look a bit off?
For sure, you are using custom textures including modified environment maps. I'll move your post to technical assistance.

The reflections are fake in a way. Sure they are real refelctions but not of the actual environment you're driving in, but of an environment texture file. So they will never be "right".
Only way to fix this is updating the graphics engine to use real reflections.
Grand Prix 4 already had those real reflections (dynamic environment maps) in 2002. Looked quite nice, but ate a lot of CPU/GPU power.
yes but they are nice.. thats what LFS needs

actually, before that... reflections in LFS need to be fixed, and what i mean by that is, view a car from almost any angle, and look at the roof.. and what do you see? the ground.. thats not right :S

I'm sure it would be possible to create an option for the user to either use dynamic environment mapping or fake reflections so people with slow systems would not be harmed by it.

What do you mean? Are you using custom environment maps as well or is this a bug? Can you attach a screen shot?

I noticed this with that one in the picture I attached, in one shot I could see the road, but as you say it has to do with the custom environment maps
nope, i'm using the default ones, LFS has been like this.. for as long as i've been playing

huh.. when did you guys put up new pictures on the LFS main site?, anyways
here are some examples of your own pictures:

(up the entire right half of the FZR)

(good example, its pretty much everywhere)

its like the map is working.. only from the viewpoint, meaning, its showing the entire reflection map from where the view, whereas .. it should "cover" the car the entire time

not sure if that makes sense, maybe this will: when you look at a car, you only see a fraction of its reflections, alot of it is hidden, in LFS however, its showing all of the reflections all the time, not sure how this can be edited, but surely there is a way

heres a great example, check the roofs:

in the day however, S1 was much worse at this, can see the ground early in the hood, it is especially visible on the blue LX
