Vehicle Mod Approved
Approved: FERRENZI 62-12 (version: 4)

Submitted by: teeembo
Details page: https://www.lfs.net/files/vehmods/42392A

DESCRIPTION:
Quote :This is a mid-70s Group 7 / Can Am / Interserie style car inspired by the Ferrari 612 and 712 prototypes but with the later monocoque construction and aerodynamics of cars like the McLaren M20.

After a lacklustre season campaigning the 612, Ferrari only made a single 712 (converted from a used 512S chassis) and did not continue to develop the car much thereafter. What would have happened if the Scuderia had fully committed to racing in this category? This is how I imagined that car could have been ...

Approved: LEMON DUCKLING (version: 7)

Submitted by: stuchlo
Details page: https://www.lfs.net/files/vehmods/E74A35

DESCRIPTION:
Quote :The Lemon Duckling was a small budget car designed in 30s and manufactured from 40s to 90s. The car was famous for its unique design and suspension and soon became a French icon. The suspension was designed to be able to drive over a plowed field without breaking eggs in a basket.

This mod is based on an early super-slow "ripple bonnet" and "umbrella" models and a lap around Blackwood can take a couple of hours. Despite that, these cars were a popular base for a cheap race cars. There was a wide range of available modifications, from cheap basic race cars, through fast 24-hour specials, endurance rally cars and 4x4 crawlers. Therefore the car was made mainly to have a fun with LFS physics and to provide a base for some future racing mods.

Realism note

The IRL car has an extraordinary suspension where a special link between front and rear wheels enables an extremely soft suspension. Combined with 15° caster, it is almost impossible to roll over (without some terrain obstacles) despite ridiculous tilt during cornering. Tried to approximate this using a linear front suspension + extended suspension travel + slightly smaller 15 inch wheels (used on later models IRL).

Making derivatives

This mod was made as a base for some future racing mods. If you are going to make one, please do not make sleepers and follow IRL specifications (for example https://www.autosport.com/nati ... ikeliest-race-car/8082299) Smile

Vehicle Mod Approved
Approved: HIMALAYA SIX (version: 6)

Submitted by: stuchlo
Details page: https://www.lfs.net/files/vehmods/6C0533

DESCRIPTION:
Quote :Himalaya Six was a luxury model built between 1925 and 1930 in Czechoslovakia. Powered by a 1.9 or 2.3-litre six-cylinder inline OHC engine it was capable of carrying 4-6 passengers at 110 - 115kph. The cars were equipped with 4-wheel brakes, 4-speed non-synchronized gearbox, a front telescopic bumper and were available as limousines, phaetons, cabriolets and landaulets. Many cars had custom built coachworks by specialized companies, which was a common practice back in the day. In contrast to other contemporary cars it had an innovative backbone chassis with a fully independent suspension which excelled on potholed dirt roads of the First Republic. A ride quality was therefore closer to European limousines from the early 1930s then to contemporary 1920s vehicles. The chassis was so big and robust, that some cars were later rebuilt into firetrucks.

In 1931 the car was replaced by the legendary V12 model, which was used by the Czechoslovak president Masaryk.

Realism note
This mod represents an early 1.9-litre cabriolet with a short wheelbase. Because of the independent suspension, this is one of a few 1920s cars which can be simulated in the LFS, without some rough approximations of solid axles. Historic tires and tire sizes are not supported in a current LFS version. Tires are thus overpressured to approximate original bias-ply tires. The 20 inch wheel was approximated using a 21 inch wheel to preserve the full diameter of the tire. The force-feedback strength should be set approximately to 20-40, because it had a heavy worm-and-roller steering, which had considerably less self-centering effect than a rack-and-pinion steering. Missing technical data were filled using technical specifications of related models.

The original car had a steering wheel on the right side, but the mod enables both configurations. Keep in mind that it is a 1920 car and it is much more difficult to drive than modern vehicles. The center of gravity is high and brakes are weak. A double-clutch technique should be deployed when down-shifting, because the gearbox was not synchronized. The first gear is reduced. There is no gain in using more than 4000 RPM (although the engine will survive that).
