Beginner looking to autocross with a Corvette-ish mod
Hi, folks! Total newb here. Just downloaded LFS today.

Some background: I have an 02 Corvette that I'm getting into autocross with. It's a lot of fun! I downloaded LFS in hopes that I can practice during my downtime. I'm not expecting it to be super accurate or realistic, but if I can practice beginner concepts, car control, etc., then I'm happy.

So, I have a couple questions:

1. When I look at these custom autocross layouts that people make, most of them look like custom tracks rather than autocross courses (setup with cones for low-speed racing.) -- Am I missing something here? Where should I be looking?

2. I understand that folks can create/mod their own cars. Does anyone recommend something close to my C5 Corvette in terms weight, V8, etc.?

And if my questions or expectations are unrealistic, just let me know.

Thanks so much, all! Excited to be here.
You need at least S1 licence to use autocross environment and layout objects.
You need S3 licence to use car mods.

Before that happens, there is no legal help for you. Shrug

That's fine, I don't mind getting an S3 license. Is what I'm asking for still doable though? Can anyone point me in the right direction?
The layout editor was originally developed for autocross but gradually developed into a lot more.

You can place cones and set checkpoints, restricted areas and so on, to create something that looks like an autocross track.

It's very doable, with S3 you get the tools needed to create an autocross track and of course the LFS Editor, used to create mod cars. Now, you could either:
1. Make your own autocross layouts and car mods
2. Collaborate with someone on making both
3. Commission someone to do it for you

Now, I think there is a mod C5 corvette already in the game, with derivatives open, so you can take that and edit it so it fits your spec more, with weight and power etc. And autocross layouts aren't much of a pain to make.

Edit: nvm, the c5 mod is not open for derivatives, my mistake
This is great! Thank you, all!

Welcome to the community LFS

Let us know if it helps you improve those concepts and translate them to real-life.
There are some Layout tools (though I have never used them and might be 20% wrong) that allows you to grab a 2D top-down map picture and draw the layout lines on top of the map to replicate "real-life" measurements, if that is what you're after. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me further down.

Regarding the car, you might get in contact with the mod creator and ask him if you can copy their work and do your own version of the car for private use (single-player).

Good luck

Can the new layout editor objects be released seperated to big update? Would improve the quality of existing layouts by a lot.
Hi,
Three autocross courses are included with LFS, at the "Autocross" area.
Named LX_week1,2,3

also maybe try these:

https://www.lfs.net/forum/post/1934370#post1934370
bit different, includes reversing:

Most uploaded custom layouts are indeed racetracks, rallye tracks or drift layouts.
Using the search-function is a bit tricky because the area in LFS is literally named "Autocross" and so the word often gets used in unrelated posts.

(not sure how accurate it is)
