The online racing simulator
realistic - fun - arcade - simulation - fun
In the topic there are several words wich are content of my post.

This post is a bit ironic and I hope some driver think over it.

I read everytime "thats to much arcade", "its a simulation", "blablabla".
In some context that may be right or better its everytime right but do you want no fun while you playing?

Some time ago i write a threat over to display the time between you and the other drivers to make it more attractive and clearer. I wont flame about the answer about it would be to much arcade if you display it with colours (red, green) and so on, its only an example to think over the difficult way between a most realistic way of driving but dont give the fun away.
There are many examples for me, most are not to unrealitic and arcade but makes the game more attractive, gives much more fun and motivation while driving (for example the colours for a better split the the others).

The main state of my post is to let you think over where your request for simulation, simulation, non arcade, non arcade, non arcade, would bring LFS to.

1. If you drive against a wall, your car have to save and you have to walk to the pit (if you can) and drive with the second car.
That could be easylie integrated, LFS cannot display it (ATM) but your screen could be black for maybe 30mins - 2h.
<->
Long times at beginning maybe fun cause you drive save but not very useful for a funny drive.

2. You never can 'fly' to the pit if you want to learn driving better and drive over what you basically can.
<->
At the latest after 3 crashes or 'bad-time-rounds' its only boring borin boring....

3. If you make a hard crash LFS have to dont let you in for 2 - 10 weeks...

That are extreme examples I know and I could bring many more but its what you with your annoying answers want.
Im for realism too, LFS is a absolutly nice game and it makes fun to play but there is a barrier for realism on pc particularly in a game. Some things cannot be simulated and others should be integrated to bring more fun for only a little bit less realism...

Peace
i think people would be very pissed off if they couldnt play for 2 weeks or had to wait 2 hours to getinto a car. Its not real life its simulating how the cars are driven. Some of that stuff could be good but 2 weeks if you have a bad crash is way too long
Good points there...

What I'd like to see is as much as possible simulated from the moment the cars are moved to the paddock for the reconaissance lap until the cars are turned off in parc ferme after the session... Everything in between is over the top. So, yes, I want to see stranded cars on the track. I want to see rearbumpers tear off the body after heave contact. YES I want to see pitgirls walk out onto the track to show me where I have to line it up for the grid. No, I don't want to have to sit out an hour when I wreck, but I do want to wait for a marshall to get me out of the car so I can spectate from behind the armco.

This in a way reminds me of Grand Prix 4, they had a marshall pushing your car through the gravel trap single handed, that was some serious man power!!

i do think we may get something by the time lfs is complete

Thanks to read my post correctly, you absolutly missed the point...
Some nice ideas. IMO the crash, walk to pits and drive secondary car is something you do see in RL racing, so it might be a nice idea to have, but then again, would you really want someone running around the track like a loony when your racing? Also, not driving for 2 weeks is very long, and i know it would put me off the game instantly. I mean sure, i smash the XRR to smitherines and i cant drive it for a week, but i got all the other cars i can use, but i want the XRR. Just wont work.

Although, the idea is something that could be worked on. For example, you win credits for comming X out of X in a race. So say you come 1st out of 20, you win X amount of credits. Then when you crash, you cant shift+s and the car is all hunky doory, you have to drive to the pits and use your credits to fix the car, or fix it in the garage after / before a race. Same with any mechanical errors such as a fooked clutch. But i dont think any of these should be implimented untill LFS has a semi-realistic damage / failure thing.
+1 for a credit type system. even if it was only an online system (so you can always play offline). but the thing is if we could pay for cars to be fixed, pretty soon people would be wanting the chance to buy upgrades for their cars. mibi, you could pay credits to change skin :P which could be an interpratation of a respray. i dunno really.

Is it just me? Or are the last few posters totally missing CLRs intention?
i was just picking up on an idea that rockbigdave had.
Make that 2 people with that impression.

He just made some (very extreme) examples, how LFS COULD become, if the people, who want to have everything simulated, get, what they want. They werent improvement suggestions.
imagine if call of duty had that level of realism!!!

Yeah thanks to few people dont flying aound my text and missunderstood everything.
Sure the points may be good really, but only for a race weekend but not everytime and non-optional...

If you play a realistic shooter (the example was mentioned) like maybe operation flashpoint nobody wondered and flames that there is a display for your health cause think over it without that...

In many points I totally dont understand many of the LFS community dont understand what they think writing posts full of LFS-fanboy-style (there are no other racinggames that could be good ) and the arcade thing...

But I didnt read any comment from the guys I meant in my post...

no offence, but it was quite hard to understand your post correctly, no wonder it was misunderstood. your phrasing didn't really reflect the irony you wanted to bring over with the whole post and it wasn't very comprehendable either, needed a few reads if it hadn't been for the 2nd line where you stated that this should be considered a funny post I would have taken this as a stupid request as well but anyway, anyone who wants something like this, has netkar pro

That would be awsome But a terrible waste off money :P
No no, it shouldn´t be a funny post and it´s not meant ironic.
If I wrote it will be a bit ironic I meant I dont mean everything so hard I write it...
Maybe it was not the clearest post, yes, but if you read correctly you should see without problems that my 3 points are everything else then a request...
I'm with those who misunderstood the post, damn language barrier. If you "write a threat" you cannot complain if someone doesn't understand the post. It's not always the readers who are at fault.
If it's merely the physics, HUDs and some other things would make it "more attractive". If LFS simulates racing leagues too, then some driver aids would be "arcade", not "more attractive". It follows that if LFS were to simulate *racing*, i.e. all aspects of it, HUDs, FPS counter in the car etc etc would all make it more arcade.

In the end descsribing any part of LFS a sim or arcade is down to what LFS is simulating, or more to the point what the player perceives as being simulated.

On the topic of this thread (I think), each player is different in terms of accepting levels of arcade and sim while still finding LFS "fun". It may seem ironic for some that people say LFS should be more realistic but do not want to die when they crash in to a wall at 200 MPH. It's just difference in what we all deem fun.

Or have I, too, lost the plot on this thread

Well i just think it's a race simulator, not a crash simulator.
I bought this game for the racing on the track, not to have to wait a week to play, if i make a major mistake,

My opinion
Quote from GWADanny :i think people would be very pissed off if they couldnt play for 2 weeks or had to wait 2 hours to getinto a car. Its not real life its simulating how the cars are driven. Some of that stuff could be good but 2 weeks if you have a bad crash is way too long

You're right, I'm sure all the dead drivers from bad crashes would think two weeks would be too long ;p

We aren't in real life, and this is the divide from real life and games. If you die, just try again. There would be no market for games if you really died. People play games to get away from the risk of death (or they just have no access to a BMW Sauber), if they started to die in games and cannot come back for another try, then why play them?

LoL....all the Ricers are gonna be asking For Noz and 20 inch rims...And Spinners!..next thing you know Lfs has SuVs and Family vans! illepall

And The Death Penalty would be to Long, a Simple thing would be...like u get kicked from that server or u leave yourself and rejoin but u have to wait for the race to restart...but i swear theres already a racing game out that has that...where ur driver can get hut while racing...GTi Racing? or sumting close, but in otherwords..great ideas
I was with you on the 'no reset' rule, but the others sound a little crazy to me. If I wanted to stare at a black screen for hours I'd reinstall Windoze

And if you stop people being able to join games then they will play something else, meaning you risk losing customers. That would be a very silly thing to do for the sake of "realism". And especially annoying if the crash was someone else's fault

If this is just an idea to try and stop wreckers, then I made a suggestion for a 'reputation' system where you lost points if an accident was your fault and regained them over time. Servers would have the extra option of disallowing people will certain scores from joining, so if someone is a known wrecker they won't be able to join any server. It'll still be around somewhere - search for it if you're interested

Edit: See how nice I am! Here it is
What I would add to that suggestion now is that the players could vote to award penalty points to a player the way they can vote for kicks and bans now - that might be easier to add than a system to auto-detect blame.

Well said TagForce, +1 to that. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that this is all that most reasonable sim-heads want.

Sorry for the off topic, but this always puzzled me about America's Army as a so-called recruitment game. I thought the speed with which you got killed when you first played this game was great, but I always wondered why anyone would think, "So if I join the army, I'm going to get shot in the head within 15 seconds of arriving on the battlefield... cool! Where do I sign?"

Try not to forget that it is American's Army, if it was Britian's Army then you'd never die, but get wounded in a knife battle because you're to close to civilians to use guns and such

But then on your way back to base in the Landy you'll get blown up

Yes but you'd be wearing a natty beret, so that's all right then.
