Host did not receive UDP packet
tried reinstalling a few times, checked firewall settings - nothing - nadda

windows 10 64bit

now what
First, start posting on right section. Sedcond, explain better when do you get this error... if while hosting, if while trying to join any server.

If you are trying to host, something is blocking or not properly routing the UDP packets. Some internet providers deny traffic in some specific ports, and it can be your case, if you are 100% sure that you setup correctly the port forwarding.

LFS requires TCP and UDP protocols enabled to host a server.

But if you are trying to join in a server and get this error, try to connect in another. If it's happening in all servers, try to disable the firewall instead just allowing traffic on it.
Sorry I've been a member for a long time and I just thought it was like the good old days.

Anyways I tried disabling the firewall, no luck, maybe I should restart the computer after doing that?

Also I'm going off my Android wifi so maybe that's the issue.

No matter what game I try and join I get the same error.
Maybe u not allowed to use UDP by your ISP.

Otherwise u can try rebooting all hardware Modem / router /switches.
Everything between pc and isp

Why you should do that in the first place? Are you using some mobile phone carrier for your internet?

Sounds like you are tethering. Some mobile phone company's do not allow you to tether.
I got unlimited wifi data + teathering

all other racing games work

I remember back in the day when I was running off a router I was able to forward ports etc....i remember that all too well so many many years ago

now that I'm using my phone I'm afraid I am not going to be able to do this.

I can't change anything in the cfg.ini file can I?
I guess not, you are only able to change to TCP mode after connection to a server.

Mobile networks are not really great for gaming (high latency) so I am feeling not so sorry that you cannot get it to work. Just get a landline, much better.
Well cargame.nl

do you feel sorry that I can race iracing and rfactor2, assetto crappo and a host of other games too lol Smile

LFS is super old school...that's like something old - but that's fine I understand it's pretty much pointless to expect them to change it after so long.

It's fine really since i have so many races on the other sims, I just thought it would be fun to fire this one up after so long Smile

So no I don't expect you to feel sorry for me, but you could be a little bit more helpful and just get this fixed Wink

get at it son!
-So I am feeling not so sorry that you cannot get it to work-

So I don't feel sorry that you can't get it to work :0)
Hmno, I am not so sorry for those other games either. The problem is with LFS that if you have a bad connection you mostly are annoying to other people, it doesn't affect yourself that much. With other games, especially shooting games you think multiple times before you go multiplayer with a crappy connection.

Help yourself and get a decent wired connection. Are those prices so high in the USA for such a service?
LFS is so old I doubt the connection would be bad. it's 2017 and there are high speed internet connections on phones now. Yeah it's true, compared to years ago when the speed was very slow, these days I'm getting 100x that speed on my phone, so no need to worry.

btw I do check the lag on the other games and I'm fine.

I'm really good at where I'm at I'm in no way shape or form going to buy another high speed line just to play this.

If you can't help that's fine, I don't feel sorry for you or anyone for that matter.
It's not about speed (or actually bandwidth),but how the connection works and how the data is routed. I use 3G mobile stick with my laptop - while on friend's cable connection I have 30-40ms ping with european servers,it's at least the double with my 3G connection at it's best signal strength.
Simply said - air < copper < glass fibre
The 4G lte connection I have never gave me any problems on iracing or other intensive sims - so unless LFS is just really slow for whatever reason I don't see how this would effect anything.

Bottom line is that whoever made this who port thing a necessity should be fired.
Quote from theblackrabbi :it's 2017 and there are high speed internet connections on phones now.

Due to the nature of antennas, transmission, signal collisions, users and over-demand (because of the so called "unlimited" data (which is not really true)), no, it's not really high -quality-. Cell phone networks are always slower then wired networks, if it is 2017, 2020, or 2050.. Doesn't matter.

Tethering with a mobile phone is damn ass cheap, not surprised that it gives problems. But, as usual, the problem is elsewhere not by the person itself. That is 2017.
How come I can play multiplayer with no problem in any game?

I don't care anymore about playing LFS it was a great sim 15 years ago - I just want to play it for nostalgic purposes Smile

that is I just want to mess around - I'm not serious about playing a sim that still feels like it did in the beginning bro.

Just to clarify why is it I can play with no problem in any other game with no lag when you said I have all these issues..

the only issue I have is that LFS can't run unless you open stupid ports...I could care less about how fast or slow you think it is.
To get back on "the problem". 5 years ago I was able to join my servers with a tethered phone I now remember, must have been very far ahead in time. Didn't have to do anything.

And just now I had a great idea! I have a new phone (coincidentally a USA Verizon phone hahaha) .. Shared my data connection with Wifi tethering to my Windows 10 64 bit laptop. Started LFS and instantly connected without any problem to some random MRC server. So...

You know what I think is the problem? That you could not care less.. It's karma. Good luck with finding the problem but it is not LFS. Its you and or your stuff.
No actually it's LFS because this doesn't happen in any other game to date.

Sorry if that makes you mad or sad that I'm not able to fix my issue Frown

BooHoo Frown

I think the real problem is your attitude towards America...Yes we can kick your ass to no tomorrow, we are better, richer, smarter, and well just all around nicer.

Enjoy LFS it's the same game it's been forever and will not change...which I like.

And no you have to open ports to play so there is NO way around this and I will be stuck racing Iracing/assetto crappa, Rfactor2, and anything else I want to play online...MINUS LiveFor2000s speed.
Attitude towards America?

Huh? This escalated quickly Big grin ..

Quote from theblackrabbi :we are better, richer, smarter, and well just all around nicer.

Hilarious. Smile

Let me know when you find the problem. Like I tested today, you do not need to open any port. Works out of the box, even with an USA phone. Tongue .. Maybe when you trigger me enough I make a video of it, because skills are endless.
I had the same problem years ago with a modem/router.

how about you help me out instead of going on and on about how you don't feel sorry for me.

I did find the problem I need to open ports so I have no idea how you are able to connect "right out of the box" when I can't for the life of me.

ya you need to be part of the solution not just add to my issues with LFS currently.

At least I'm not getting down on the game, I want to play on demo servers again and have some fun...is that too much to ask for Smile
You don't need to "open any ports" when you want to join a server. There is not sufficient information to be of any assistance.

Quote :Maybe u not allowed to use UDP by your ISP.

Maybe this is applicable in your situation. Your mobile network provider might block UDP to counteract torrenting on mobile networks.

People do idiotic things on a mobile network. Mobile networks are not designed for heavy usage. When I would be mobile network provider I would definitely make some blockades to kill over-usage of the network. You give very little information about your situation, the less information, the less help can be given.
At least there is no need to open ports Shrug
Cricket service provider. Unlimited high speed internet w/tethering. Huawei phone.

I'm sure that I need to open ports just as I had to do every other time I installed this game. Unfortunately I looked online and there is no straightforward way of doing this.

Not sure I understand you RC-Maus because I had to do this everytime before with opening ports.

I download torrents day and night so no problem there. Honestly LFS was the first and last game I have ever had to do this with, and spent a fair amount of time when I first got the game in order to race online.

Like I said if it's not possible that is ok with me. Just thought there might be some special way I haven't found yet.

Do you have the "Data saver" option turned off on your phone?

Quote from theblackrabbi :

Should not be needed. Where do you want to open them anyway, you have no router. You have a phone.
Nope no data saver...I just need a router in order to open ports as I have many years ago.

I just thought maybe somebody had the same issue and had a special way of getting around this.

Thanks for your help I think I'm pretty much out of luck due to the fact I can't open ports on my phone.
