Lol @ european TAXES.

fixed!

We get absolutely hammered
Quote from mrodgers :Yeah, but we also pay 3 times the price for used cars, thus our cost per mile is a lot greater than yours.

I recently looked up a 2006 VW Jetta TDI in the UK and US. UK price was around 5 or 6k in GBP while the same car goes for $16-18k over here.

I'd love to pay your fuel prices if I could get cars as dirt cheap as you folks can.

But for new cars it's the opposite here, if a car costs 50.000 in the us it costs 150.000 here in holland.
Norwich / Norfolk

Tesco 115.9p diesel
Asda 113.9p diesel

As far as I am concerned, it can keep on rising, just means that I save more money on every cycle commute I do

My diesel bill has gone from £120 a month, to about £40 a month.

Same prices for us here in Nuneaton too as it happens.
Luckily enough though, we get a free tank of diesel once per month, so our monthly bill is about £30 at the moment.
I recommend everyone who hasn't already, sign up to www.petrolprices.com. It's not always up to date, but round here it's right 99% of the time. And they have an iPhone app

Another little piece of motivation to be healthy, eh? I like cycling to work, but it's too inconvenient to cycle AND go to the gym after work. So I drive and gym. At least both the gym and the supermarket are on the way home for me, saves me separate trips. It's nipping all round the country I can't substitute with cycling though, been burning through nearly £300 a month recently. Car is great but 22½ mpg hurts!
Cycle a bit more, cancel the gym membership and save on both petrol and extortionate gym prices.

I've never quite got this idea of driving to the gym to spend an hour running and cycling, and paying for the privelege.

It's not just running and cycling at the gym though, I mean most of the stuff costs hundreds and thousands.
I did a trip up north at the weekend, filling up at Tescos in Oxford was 114.9 on Friday. I filled up at a Shell garage in remotest Derbyshire for 111.9, definitely cheaper up north
Tescos Havant, Hants

Petrol: 111.9
diesel: 115.9

Them and Asda Walmart Havant are about the same, as soon as I go over the border to West Sussex, the prices get mental- the petrol stations on the A27 are still as high as 119.9 and the Texaco in Rose Green, near Bognor is in the 120's.

And it's going to get worse guys, once the supermarket wars die down, I can see us reaching £1.30 within several months... my other half is planning on an LPG conversion for her Mondeo ST200 (2.5ltr N/A, 205bhp) as it's pretty thirsty, especially if I don't drive like an old granny and I might do the same with my Escort RS2000 though it's not as bad as it's got a 2ltr engine, can get ok fuel consumption at times.
prices have gone way down where I am in texas. I'm now paying ~.40p per liter. I really don't know how brits can afford to live with such high taxes on fuel. It doesn't make sense from an economical standpoint either.

In fairness, that's still only a 7% difference. Think how much more chocolate bars are at a service station, compared to the supermarket.
