I'm sure most of you still got some time, but if you're all still listening to metal when you're fourty years and older, i'd say chances are high you can be classified as some sort of psychopath.

I dunno, i still listen to some rock music now and then, but heavy metal? I thought that was music for kids who feel the need to be a rebel.

I so want that Symphony X T-shirt.

Im stuck in the 90s
I find it always funny when people complain about there being no good music nowadays.

I would even dare to say that there is A LOT more good music (for everyone's taste) than there was in the 80's. Just not in the charts/mainstream. Just search around a bit on youtube and you are bound to find something new that you like if you aren't someone who doesn't like music at all.

80's was the generation of music man, so many different sounds, dance music started there, rock n roll. 80's was THE era for music. It doesn't take a genius to figure out, when theres a wedding, family party or even a funeral, the majority of the songs will be 80's songs, 80's songs had the most impact. What songs from the 90's have the same impact as any from the 80's for instance? Please tell me.

The early and late parts of the last 4 decades have been good for music. The late 60s and early 70s was very good for hard rock. The late 70s and early 80s were very good for punk, post punk, new wave, NWOBHM et cetera. The late 80s and early 90s very good for alternative rock, example being Grunge.

Thats my opinon.
The problem is, there's only so many notes in music, and only so many ways how you can play them differently... and they've all been done before. Everything new is old stuff (melodies, harmonies) which has been played before.

So looking at it like this, you certainly still can produce "new" music. It's just, chances are high that we've heard it before in some other classic songs.

IMO, 70's is even better.

EDIT: 5haz: What about Funk/Soul... you can't just leave that out!

Yeah sorry, very important part that, jazz fusion deserves a mention too. Personally the late 60s/70s and early 90s are my favourites.

I don't care about impact. I care about if I like it or not. What I don't care about is how many other people like it or what kind of "impact" it had.

For example, I think Britney Spears and Lady GaGa are both awful but they certainly had an "impact" on pop music.
I just want someone to name a 90's song that is popular at a disco or whatever :P

Saturday Night by Whigfield? You see my point, I'm sure.

I see yours but I don't think you see mine.

Having impact or being popular at a disco has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the song.

How about House Of Pain, Jump Around?

And whats so good about a song being popular at a disco? Infact thats probrably a bad thing IMO.
Disco songs are well played songs, if you have a song that is well played it's obviously good or popular with the masses.

I think almost all 80's number 1s people have actually heard of. 90's number 1's alot of them are covers of 80's songs.
Troll is trolling. DNFT.

Popular with the masses, yes. But popular with the masses doesn't equal good. But I'm only repeating myself anyway.

Ok, I stop now.

Popular DOES obviously mean good. You're obivously one of those people who avoids and automatically hates anything that is popular unless it suits you aren't you? Anything that is popular is clearly good in the sense that the majority think it is good. You can't argue with fact and more numbers vs smaller numbers makes this fact. I understand it may not be a good song outright because it's popular but if a song is that shit then nobody will play it, hence it will never become popular.

While the above is often true, it is not always true.

Then again thats just my musical taste, most of which other people regard to be rather naff.

Not my top 10 because I suck at albums but these are great... I like other albums better but they're not from this decade :P

Yeah well that has nothing to do with musical taste, but quite a lot to do with some kind of morbid curiosity.
