Quote from ACCAkut :What happened then? Konntest du da mit Hilfe der Justiz irgendwas machen?

Nope, as his argument was redundant in itself: "The thesis doesn't reach up to my demanded scientific standards". He did not specify said standards, nor why I didn't meet them. Additionally, as he's still head of department, so it would still be up to him to accept anything I write, making fighting for it obsolete.

There is still a remote hope though, which happened to someone I know: similar story, but when his HoD finally retired a few years after, the new one contacted him and gave him the chance to write a new thesis.
But honestly, as I work as a Journalist / PR-specialist anyways, I really don't know if I would go through the rather unconvenient workload of another final thesis again, as it wouldn't gain me much except a MA, as my profession is full of people who didn't finish their studies.
A couple off the top of my head...

Being on a bus in India that was overtaking another bus, with another bus coming in the other direction, on a two lane bridge with no barriers. I was convinced i was going to die. Everything went slow motion like when your in an accident. There must have been no more than a couple of centimetres between all three busses as they somehow avioded each other.

Returning from Donington Monsters of Rock festival. I fell asleep in the car. Unfortunately so did the driver I awoke just after we hit the central reservation at (the police estimate) 100mph. The car span right back across the motorway and rolled over three times down the bank. We were very lucky to get out of that without a scratch. The car was unrecognisable.

Waking up at 4.00 in the morning to find a bloke with a knife stood next to you as he robbed you. That one was no fun at all.
Quote from Klutch :Why would you put a gun on your head?
Thats just silly.

*cough* white text *cough*

And yes, i was tryng to say that someone else would put or something
Quote from Jakg :I let off the throttle, slowing from about 50 - 55 to 45 - 40, and moved my right hand to the rear brake???? ready to squeeze - I also started to move my left hand to the front brake,??? however by this point I was almost at the apex.

Lol cbt riders. and riding cross handed or a Gileras just different from everyone else?
Scooters have bicycle style controls, I think? Rear brake lever on right bar, front brake lever on left bar, auto clutch.
Quote from Jakg :
1 - Coming round a bend on my bike. It's a blind 45° bend,

Blind 45°?
I hope you mean a 90°.
Blind 45deg bend is also highly plausable, given the fact that hedges are allowed to grow to stupid heights around this part of england.
Quote from Forbin :Scooters have bicycle style controls, I think? Rear brake lever on right bar, front brake lever on left bar, auto clutch.

AFAIK that is in America, where they swapped levers around (IE at least on Pushbikes..?)

I thought. Right brake was always on the right and back brake was always on the left. At least every scooter I've ever seen is right lever=front and left lever=back.

I think it's got normal bike controls - been so long since I rode it i'm not quite sure!
Quote from BlakjeKaas :Blind 45°?

No, 45° - lots of hedges and a "dip" obscures things.
Quote from logitekg25 :that is a brilliant design if you think about it! and the link is wrong, you have to include the end parenthesi in the link.

Not my fault - blame the interwebz.

Really!?!

Nah seriiously, S14 is correct.

Front brake is always on the right, the same side as the throttle, and the rear brake is on the left, or if its a geared bike, the left lever is the clutch, and the rear brake is down by the footpegs on the left.
On the right*

Side fail
Quote from danthebangerboy :Front brake is always on the right, the same side as the throttle, and the rear brake is on the left, or if its a geared bike, the left lever is the clutch, and the rear brake is down by the footpegs on the left.

On motorcycles/mopeds. On bicycles the front brake is on the left, the rear on the right. (As bike can be either motorbike or bicycle... It all depends on what was Jakg riding).

Now, my scariest moments.

I was riding my Honda CBR 125R in a hot afternoon. The road had two corners, a 90° left hander and in a few meters a tight right hander. First corner, all ok. Second, the (skinny) rear tire lost grip, but I held it in a huge powerslide screaming "POWERRRRRRR"! No, wait... I managed to keep the bike on its wheels and I sh*tted my pants. That's right
(Yep, with 13bhp you can't powerslide, 0-60 is in 20-ish seconds and your top speed is between 65 and 75. That's a fast bike :tilt.

Next one, I wasn't driving, so I got the feeling I couldn't do a thing to avoid the crash; and that's the worst.
This friend of mine had his license for a month or so, and kindly told me and my friends to jump up in his 106. He started the engine and stalled. From that time he always stays over 4k rpm to move, because he is afraid of stalling.
We were travelling at 30mph, he went round a bend and decided to accelerate, without moving an inch the steering wheel. We were then going on the opposite lane. And if one of my friends didn't turn the wheel, we would have crashed into the oncoming traffic.
But now I know that's normal for him: he managed to crash into a small column while entering his driveway and scratch all the poor Peugeot's right side while trying to exit a parking (twice in a row).
He's not a good driver, is he?
Quote from Jakg :Wow - aggressive much? I'm sure i've done stupid things - but I can't believe I make stupid mistakes THAT often.

Not expecting that these things are going to happen is the biggest mistake made on the road.
Quote from freddyalek90 :On motorcycles/mopeds. On bicycles the front brake is on the left, the rear on the right. (As bike can be either motorbike or bicycle... It all depends on what was Jakg riding).

Mmmm... not in the UK it's not. Every single bicycle I've had has been front brake on the right and the rear has been on the left (apart from one I imported from the US of A which was left=front and right=back) I used to work in Halfrauds Bikehut.. I think I know.
Spinning out in the FJR1600 @ 90mph in turn 10, Infineon Raceway, back in 2002. I came within feet of the retaining wall @ the base of the drag racing tower. The FJR has stock tires, and when I went through the chicane, I was throttle greedy, turned 1 way, didn't slow down enough, and when I turned the opposite way, the weight transferred right as I hit the gas and whipped the car around like a toy.

I had my arms in the 'X' crash position with both feet hard on the brake pedal, praying to stop before I slammed into something. After I stopped in the sand trap, the car was still halfway blocking the chicane and stalled out. I was afraid another car would T-bone me...

I kept pumping the gas like a mad man, flipping the fuel pump switch on and off to get it pumping again. After about 5 seconds, I heard the rapid ticking in the engine, meaning the pump was back on. I immediately clicked on the battery switch to the starter, and it started with a sputter, then I slowly drove out onto the track and back into the pits.

It was not until that very moment, that I learned to respect the car. It's one thing to push the limits of the car, and quite another thing to exceed those same limits. Even the best drivers can make mistakes, like Dale Earndhart Jr., who ate turn 8a in a Corvette.
I have a car related one as well.......

It was about 2 weeks after i had passed my test back in 2002 and i was driving back from my girlfriends at about 10pm. It was raining and generally crappy weather as i passed my test in january.

I was slowing down whilst coming towards the village where i lived which is on a long straight road, and everything would have been fine if it want for the fact that a deer decided to wander into the road, look at me, and then just stand there, frozen to the spot.

I did a very noobish thing, i braked harder and tried to steer around it at the same time.... FAIL.

An immediate uncontrollable slide took place, whereby i spun 180 degrees, smacked into a large metal pole holding up a road sign that was on the offside verge next to a large ditch with the rear quarter panel of the car on the way round, which then slowed me down and straightened the car up so i was back facing the right way again, but on the wring side of the road, all fine, apart from the car was beeched on the verge with most of the rear of the car hanging over the edge of the ditch.

So, im sitting there, a little shook up, and surprised to hear the little 1300 engine happily ticking over as normal, so i tried to pull away but nope, not happening.

One front wheel had sunk into the soft grass and the other was just scrubbing on the rough surface where the verge met the edge of the road, not a hope in hell matey.

So i stuck the hazards on, hopped out and went to the house directly opposite where my car was, which luckily happened to be my best mates house.

He came out, hopped in and just turned the steering wheel, which then gave the car a bit more grip, just enough to get it moving.

As it slowly started to move i was thinking, oh well, must just be a dent, it looks ok.

That was until he got the car fully onto the road and i realised that the car was still leaning down on the passengers side at the back, alot.

When i went to look there were smashed windows, and a massive, and i MEAN massive dent in the side of the car.

You could actually stand in the gap and still be well within the normal lines of the bodywork, there was a twist in the roof and i had also destroyed the rear beam, broke the anti roll bar, and the only thing that was holding the rear wheel to the car was the shock absorber, although amazingly, the alloy and tyre were fine somehow.

And where was the deer, ran off into the f----ng field, the git!

The most ironic part was, the sign that i hit was the sign that said 'please drive carefully'

Pity really, as i loved that car, as it was my first car and i saved up for a year to buy it.

Yeah, that could be because we drive on different sides of the road
Quote from freddyalek90 :Yeah, that could be because we drive on different sides of the road

lol dunno but its good fun when someone who has an imported bike jumps on my chopper and goes to slide the back end, after having built up alot of speed goes to grab what he thinks is the rear brake but is infact the front and promptly disapears over the handlebars, the bike going with him
mine was back in 2003 with a tornado that happened around 12am
the funnel cloud was right over the house and it was windy like crazy, and my mom saw one of are huge trees bend completely sideways but it didn't break.
and 1 mile down the road all the power lines where ripped out of the ground and layed across the road.
we had no power for about 2 days and no clean water for about 1 day.
Probably when my mom drove through my leg with her Ford Fusion. Don't ask. It hurt. I thought I'll never be able to walk.
