OMG, try staring at the center, moving your head forward quickly, about 0.5m then move it back 0.5m, several times. It ends up looking really trippy!

It's not possible to pull a string around an object without the string being taught if there's only two points at which it's being pulled from. It really doesn't have anything to do with gravity.

Gravity is not the reason it will touch the earth. You could pull a string taught around the space station, it still would not float.

It would appear to float when observed by the two people holding it tight, assuming they are holding the ends in their hands and are standing up, when in fact it would be a tangential line from their hand to wherever it contacts the earth, but the point would be so far away it would appear to float from that particular position.

What I don't like about glasses/corrective lenses in general is that they alter your eyesight in ways other then focus. For example, with my glasses on, I see red/blue separating from edges of objects. It's hard to explain, but it's annoying and makes it feel like I'm looking at a poorly adjusted CRT projector.
