Quote from zapz :How much (in USD) would I need to spend on a PC to play LFS (and most other racing sims) in 1920x1080 and get a frame rate of 120fps at minimum.

I want 120fps for 3D with 3D glasses.

I don't need a monitor, KB, mouse etc, just the PC and OS. The graphics card needs to be invidia for 3D.

if you are running a flat screen monitor at 60Hz, then your max frame rate will be 60 that you'll see, even if it says 120!

Quote from boothy :You been taking lessons off Mr Chapman?

The show can go on without spdo, the main grid is full so whether they confirm a month beforehand or turn up on the server 10 mins before the race start is neither here nor there. The whole point is they are a guest team and thus do have special priviledges, like running advanced drivers if they wish; they are here at the request of Deko so I'm sure he can sort it out.

While I see your point I put this to you. The Guest team which, is typically from MoE, or another top team, should surely be setting an example on how to act, drive etc. Following the rules should be a must. The fact that any team taking part doesn't have to follow rules and is seen to be allowed to have special privileges seems more ridiculous.

Quote from racer hero :The whole purpose of the guest team is too show us an example of the MoE/IGTC driver quality. They aren't scored for points, so why are you all worrying about it?

Exactly - so surely they should show the example by not breaking a rule!

Look, I know this is an AMATEUR league, but it would be good to show that the league can follow professional rules and stick to them

Quote from Crommi :Ah, thought the name looked familiar
I was having my first testing session with race trim, but unfortunately server went down before I could finish it. Indianapolis is quite interesting track with a car like Dallara, it goes so fast that you can really get different feel to each corner. On T1 I have to lift, on T2 it seems to help turning early, T3 I tend to push wide and T4 has nasty exit where track camber changes quickly and got some nasty wiggles.

yeah, I'm lifting slightly for T1 and turning a little earlier than I think I should. I also find if I'm aggressive in T1 and T2, the rear right tyre goes off so fast!

Quote from dekojester :We have stated before, and enforce it that as long as there is a confirmation of the team, even if drivers are TBA, we will accept that as a confirmation. Of course, if this practice becomes too commonplace, we will change that, but we trust that this will not be abused.

Shouldn't the rule be amended then?

Quote from racer hero :Obviously not... or they would have put the drivers in. Let Deko do his job, and you do yours.

My job is simple. When a team, guest or official is seen to be breaking an official rule and not penalised, as Vice-Captain, my job is to bring it up. This is what I have done.

The reason for bringing this up is simple. If the guest team is seen to be allowed special privileges and not subject to the same rules of the official teams, what other rules are they allowed to not adhere to.

Quote from racer hero :Because they are the guest team.

So you are telling me that guest teams do not have to follow the same rules that official teams have to follow?

Can you please tell me why SPDO are not subject to a penalty when it clearly states in the rules that you have to confirm both the team AND the drivers by the deadline?

Quote from Crommi :There was some issue with US servers, australian servers worked fine but obviously it was quite an experience driving Dallara around Indianapolis with 500ms delay in an open practise session.

I was there too... I don't mind Aussie servers to be honest. Hope the error is fixed soon though. Was hoping to do a Mazda race

Quote from JohnPenn :Not so happy about the down time the sim experiences, this is the third time in 2 weeks, and TBO not a great fan of the web based structure for starting the sim, very clunky and slow,I seem to spend so much time just waiting for the web page to refresh.

Sometimes people put too much importance on what is right and wrong (with physics etc) and they forget to simply have some fun...

too true...

glad you're having fun. Let's do a Spec Racer race sometime Limerock starts tonight there for a week, though I'll be doing some Solstice Laguna racing too. Love that combo

Quote from DaveWS :I'd also like to hear his view, specifically on the Mazda. At the moment I'm more or less on my own it seems with my opinion! But yeah thanks for pointing the thread / post out to me.

It's also interesting that you don't feel as connected.. what FPS do you run at normally? Do you have a good wheel? I find it completely understandable that a driver who is used to feedback from driving IRL will suffer initially through losing a lot of feel, but eventually your brain gets used to it no? Everyone is different I guess.

yeah, I've had a fanatec Porsche 911 but now back to my DFP sadly. With either I get a connection but nothing compared to the real thing. I think your brain gets used to a game rather than you feeling like its the same as a real car

There have been some interesting threads over the last couple of days over there. I do find it a little odd though for a sim like iRacing to be trying to make cars as close to the real thing as they can yet with the Spec Racer, it's been drastically changed from a super huge fun handful to something very easy to drive. It makes me think why release it before if it was so far from how it should be.

Fair enough Dave... I have to say that there is absolutely no way I feel as connected in a sim to a real car... not a chance!

Karts are different in my view. I went karting not too long ago and I just can't assimilate karts to sims.

I'd like Tristan to give it a go and give his verdict as he drives singleseaters all the time. I only drive them rarely and my background is more rallying to track racing....

However, i think it's good to hear from someone that does actually drive the Mazda and hear their view. Just wanted to let you know though dave .

Regarding setting cars up to be fastest, you are always going to get people setting up their car for speed rather than realism, seeing as the nature of driving in leagues online is to win rather than drive for realism. Another reason a lot of drivers with a clutched G25, don't use it.

Quote from UncleBenny :Agreed, at least they just came out and said its delayed. I haven't seen any complaining yet. This will make Friday afternoon at work that much more excruciating as I'm going to want to get home and drive the Corvette.

Don't worry, I'll give you constant updates. I may even tweet

Here's a comment for Dave WS from one of the Real World Mazda drivers on the new build. I know you were less than impressed with the Mazda Dave:

Quote :Having just taken a few laps in the "new" car, I feel it is a lot closer to reality. When we switched to the radial tires one of the biggest problems we faced was how aggressive the front end became. You'd barely turn the wheel and the car shot off in that direction. The rear also became a whole lot more "knife edge". You will find that you will want more wing at some tracks than before, and that you will want your front aero percentage to be lower than previously desired. All of these issues seem to be prominent in the iRacing depiction of the car, which is "good" to see. It sucks from a driver's standpoint but it is realistic and can be tuned out of the car through good engineering in the setup. The acceptable "window" for setups will have become smaller with the new radial tires as well. The car is much more realistic with ride height and curb riding. One thing to keep in mind is that you dont want a car that is touching constantly around the track. The undertray of these cars is fairly ineffective at creating downforce. What would be ideal is a car that only touches under extreme vertical loading or at the end of the straightaways where downforce is highest. Overall the updates has brought the cars much closer to their real life counterparts.

My Turbo-S's gas pedal has lost a considerable amount of range. i only hve to press the pedal 70% to get it to register as being pressed 100%. so now when i want to lift off slightly, i'm still going full throttle.

don't forget it's 10% off for 3 items get the indy
