I have had many many great races on the STCC now CTRA servers.
There is always great racing on the higher tiered servers I think the system works very well

Quote from 11SuLLy11 :It was by far my best and funnest race ever, especially passing SparkyDave

Quote :Well, now i've seen the replay..nice race Sully...it certainly wasn't that one where you punted me off.

Wasn't the one where you passed me either I wasn't even in that race

I think you e-mailed Jak the wrong mpr lol or did you?

I have always understood the red shift-light coming on to mean that there is more torque available in the next gear, depending on the track and situation its sometimes better to hold a lower gear for longer, even up to the limiter (just before a brake zone for example).

I know its not the exact same display but I just hooked mine up with vga and dvi cable from the X850 and have no problems at 1920x1200 16 or 32 bit, the DVI quality is slightly better but not much, I only get 50 or 60 Hz options tho so maybe this has some effect? Anyway I will reproduce the same from another PC running the 9700 later, and edit this post

Quote from Hotdogxx60 :SD, the monitor is a Sumsung 240T. I got it second hand without any extras. downloaded the latest drivers from Samsung when I install it. The monitor is around 5 years old but the display is still very good, after clicking a few options in CCC I now have my desktop running at 1920x1200 @ 75hz 32 bit, but LFS will still only default to 1024x768 @ 75hz with the max being 1280x1024 @ 60hz. Now the good thing is that my desktop doesn't change when I go out of the game, this is using the digital cable. If I was using the analog signal there's no problem in game and out.
Devil, I appreciate your efforts but don't take up too much of your time on this, unless you enjoy the challenge

Have you tried using the other connector on the card? maybe you have a faulty RAMDAC,

can I confirm you can run desktop @1920x1200 but in LFS options screen you cannot select same resolution @60hz there?

Thanks for the update

1 class of car could be fun, closer racing for all

I suppose shorter tracks and races would mean more restart voting ect

have fun bughunters

IIRC the other STCC layout has more objects in the road at the 1st apex than the few tyres and cones in those screenshots above

Whatever the layout, its important as a driver to choose a speed and line that dosen't impede your control over the car, and preferably one that dosen't strike or move any objects into the path of following cars.

The layouts are there for a good reason, and well done to the people that take the time to make and place them (Sam / Becky)

Hotdog; could I ask what make of 24" your panel is? and did it come with/did you install the monitor's .inf file from the makers web site?

I have a Dell 24" (2407WFP) and had just 1 issue very like yours when I 1st installed the monitor, I updated the display drivers only 7.4 IIRC (I dont use or like the ccc, I use Tray Tools) and all resolutions have been fine ever since, I am using the DVI-VGA connetor from PC1(XT850-PE) through a VGA-KVM and PC2 is an old 9800Pro VGA.

However I am absolutly sure that both your card, and monitor are capable of running 1920x1200 via VGA or DVI as long as the cable is good quality you should not have a problem

Good thread I race at DMR because I know its a safe place with no messing accepted , not likley to be any swearing and a good mix or racers, I agree with the fact that dismissive sry's are not good enough, and I would expect anyone who is truly sorry to slow and let me repass after knocking me off .

I just realised I was at your server last night Doorman, I hope it wasn't me who binned you off I certianly dont remember it

Quote from DEVIL 007 :
Do you use D-DVI cable. This is needed for resolution more then 1600*1200.

I had to update my drivers to achieve 1900x1200 also but I use just the VGA connection and it runs the res just fine, however I reccomend using the cable/s that were supplied with the monitor.

I would be inclined to suggest you remove all your gfx drivers (with correct tool/drivercleaner) and reload the latest ATI cat. then delete your card cfg in lfs and restart.

LFS looks very nice at high res with all the AA & AF maxed out especially with an ATI card I always found Nvidia couldn't match the image quality

Has your 9500Pro been flashed into a 9700? I wouldn't bother with the Catylist Control Center just the display driver and maybe ATI tray tools

Good luck HotDog.

+1 always handy to know points however I dont think this will be considered until offical patch X come out as IIRC somthing to do with insim/outsim changes.

I hope this is the right place to post another suggestion or 2

I think there is enough room on the CTRA top 50 racers page to allow for a top 100 I think it would fill up the big blank space thats there right now

to avoid confusion here in the forums maybe STCC section renamed? (STCC (now/& CTRA) or somthing ? just a thought?

BUG!! ?
I noticed tonight on the silver/gold server FXO must cut was not enabled and I managed to finish a race and gain 20 points without using the cut setting, is this correct? i seem to remember I had to change settings before race control would allow me to pit out before. Anyway if its easy to fix its much better for the class balance with cut enabled, feel free to deduct my 20pts for the win Sam (as always I have replay )

is there an official CTRA forum?

Hi Micky

I think if this is still happening with new drivers then I think you might have some other problem, but maybe not

With ATI drivers you really need to uninstall your drivers(replace with standard vga drivers like in safe mode) and run a little tool called cat-uninstaller.exe availible from the ati support site. Then install the driver you want, its not normally nessecary but can help in cases like yours

Of course your driver may be fine and this could be a temp related issue (try removing the dust from inside the PC?) or a faulty memory problem.

Good luck.

I run a Athlon 64 X2 dual core PC with dual boot win64 pro and winXP I found exactly the same as mentioned above (probs with raid drivers & little or no performance gains over XP) I very rarely even bother booting into the 64 version, for me it was a total waste of money.

I will be paying for, and using the hi res option (i think its a small price) and fully understand the costs involved with extra bandwith ect
Not so much for a slightly more improved look for the car skins, I could do that manually for free (but its got to be easier automatic?), but also to support the devs with their work and costs.

Hi Dave I am with Nildram also (maxDSL) and I haven't noticed any problems , How do you connect to the internet? router? do you use the wireless LAN ?

It could be somthing as simple as a network cable or NIC card as said above ,

Does this happen on the same server more than other servers?

Quote from shiny_red_cobra :Especially with the instabilities in the LFS collision system, if you make one wrong move, both of you could be flying off the track instantly!

I think the main reason we get "pinball cars" is due to online lagg and not the collision detection system. In LAN mode much closer racing is possible without the fear of getting launched

most things supplied with a single phase AC supply will have this stroboscopic effect due to the 50hz supply frequency I believe its referred to as the wagon wheel effect, its especially noticable under discharge lighting and can cause many problems in industry (rotating machinary).

Its the same as blinking 50 or 100 times each second, your eye misses some information when its closed, and if the rotation matches your rate of blink then the object (wheel) looks like its standing still. change rotation rate or rate of blink, and it will appear to start to move again .

I remember first seeing it in LFS and thinking it was cool

I also think its cheap, considering if I pay full price for any boxed game £30 aprox here in the UK, then get a couple of months play out of it, lose interest or complete it, then the makers want another £30 for some expansion pack... I am thinking of the Sims2 games and remembering games like MOHAA or BF2 where you have to shell out well over £100 to get the full set.

LFS is; buy a licence and thats it, updates come every year and we never get asked for more money

I upgraded from Tiscali about 4 years ago and moved to Nildram (also a subsiduary of Pipex) and have no shaping or throttling issues whatsoever. Nildram tech support are really good their pipes are "fat" and the quality of the actual service high.

Money wont make this sim develop any faster than it does already, this is due to the way the devs work. I respect this and really feel that LFS is/will be a much better product than any game in a box.
I respect the way the devs work and the decisions made by them, because they often listen to the ideas and criticism both positive and negitive from all of us here in the forums.

But hey, giving them extra money is already possible and just goes onto your licence page doesn't it?

just dont expect a faster rate of development. it wont happen.

If the calibration lock dosen't do it... maybe its the circuit-board

If you are using the momo PCB board (inside the wheel) the pedals are connected through it and IIRC logi uses some auto calibration feature, I believe if you restrict the pots travel down to somewhere near the standard , your prob will just go away.

Quote from tristancliffe :It stands for electric brake, which is an electro-mechanically activated handbrake.

I have to pull you up on this Tris

Most handbrakes are just a lever with a cable (not the copper type ) attached that is directly or indirectly connected to the rear brake caliper/piston, to give the impression that electricity is involved strikes me as a bit odd. Sure some modern cars use "fly by wire" technology but I think the old fashon type are safer.
And the light that comes on in the dash is just operated via a button switch.

make sure you have replays enabled to auto or manual save..

Options/Game the top 2 options

to save a replay manually drive around for a bit then use "2" to save could be "1" in single player you will be asked to save it with a filename. (in autosave the replays are named automatically)

then go to replays screen and find the replay file in the list and play it

Hope this helps.
