Quote from ajp71 :Have you ever sat in a racing seat?

Yep, sure have kid. Everything from drag bikes, to Group N rally to dirt track bangers. I've built 'em, raced 'em, wrecked 'em.

I'll say it again, your eyes have a much larger field of view than you get in this game. Even if you could only turn your head 90 degrees, your eyes will be able to see all the way round to 130 to 140 degrees, unless you have tunnel vision which is what this game has give us TrackIR users.

Try it your self sitting in your chair. Put a helmet on, then turn your head to 90 degrees. You don't have a wall blocking your view, you can see further around passed 90 degrees. Your eyes in total have almost a 180 degree field of view. Look straight ahead but hold your arms out straight at your sides. You can still see them, even though you are looking straight ahead.

The limited display area of a monitor is just like having tunnel vision, with only about 30 degrees of view. To compensate, you need to move the view on the monitor around.

This game is like looking through binoculars.

Quote from the_angry_angel :Out of interest, how are you determining that it's reporting the wrong IP?

Umm, that's why I started this thread so I could find that out. The bit where I say 'what I suspect is happening' in my original post, you did read it didn't you? I'm trying to find out for certain.

Quote from mkinnov8 :LFS is going for realism, I suggest you use the mirrors more

Then why isn't cockpit forced on. How can you say LFS is going for realism when most drivers use some invisible mode that makes the whole car disappear and gives you clear view of the front wheels.

Or that Gods eye view from the rear of the car.

If you can make the whole cockpit disappear, why not look back over your shoulders.

When the only way to drive is with a full cockpit, only then will you be able say LFS is going for realism.

Here are some examples of the blind spots in the views for TrackIR users.

This view shows where the other car is:

From inside the cockpit, the other car can't be seen at all.

Even with a helmet on and strapped in, you can still turn your head more than 90 degrees, at least 110 degrees and around 130 degrees with only slight twisting of the shoulders, no matter how tightly you are strapped in. Plus, your eyes have a large field of view. The new views give the driver tunnel vision, his eyes a locked in place and he no longer has his peripheral vision. Even in the Momo racing buckets that have the little wings to stop sideways movement of your helmet, you can still look back out the rear side windows.

When using TrackIR, you don't have the option to adjust the viewing angle as you do with button views, all cars are restricted to 90 degrees.

And yes, in a single seater, all you could see was the back of the cockpit when you looked back. But a single seater doesn't have the blind spots in the mirrors like tin tops do.

There is nothing in the change log about TrackIR, you are only assuming that TrackIR views were changed by design when the button views were changed. It may very well have been an unfortunate and unintended side effect of restricting the button views. The number of degrees you can view is not changeable when using TrackIR as it is with button view.

It would seem that TrackIR users are now more restricted in their views then button users. We should at least have the same viewing options as button users as we did before and not be penalized for using TrackIR.
TrackIR won't look past 90 degrees now.

Using TrackIR I can no longer look back over my shoulders or out the back window. The view now stops at 90 degrees, i.e, when I look left I can't look any further than out the left window. And when I look right, again, the view stops.

It seems to be happening for all cars.

In real life, you can look over your shoulder and see out the back, heck, when doing a drivers license test, if you didn't do that, you would fail. How else do you check the blinds spots?

Hope this gets fixed soon, driving with blinkers on is very restrictive.

Quote from the_angry_angel :You are correct here, it does let you bind to a given address, and is designed for use on machines with multiple ips..

However, by binding to the IP you should be sending out as that IP also.

Do you know that for certain, or are you just guessing?

Quote from the_angry_angel : Without wanting to be rude, I'd actually suggest that you've simply cocked up a firewall rule, or your dc's netadmin is running some antiwarez protection. Because LFS uses high ports by default it can often be picked up as such.

I can connect to the server via direct IP fine, it's the Master Server that appears to be sending clients to the wrong IP.

What I want to know is what IP is the Master Server sending clients to?

Quote from SamH :Couple of things to check.. did you set your config file to specify your host IP address?

Yes. The IP address setting in the config file seems to only tell the dedicated server which IP address to listen on if you have multipul IP addresses, and/or network cards, which I do. It doesn't appear to send the IP address to the Master Server though. The Master Server only seems to look at the IP address the connection to it came from and that's all.

Quote from SamH :Also, to maybe bypass the problem, is it possible to put your host machine in a DMZ, thus exposing your machine as your firewall's IP?

The server is in a hosting center. All traffic in and out of the hosting center passes through their main gateway/firewall. The firewall is one of those big Cisco's. It has hundreds of IP addresses loaded. Depending on which IP address is hit, it routs the traffic to the appropriate server in the data center. Data comes into the Cisco from the outside world via several dozen fiber connections. It also provides round robin load balancing across multipul servers, however, I only have one server in the data center so don't use that facility.

I supposed what is needed is another setting in the config file to tell the Master Server which IP address to send connections to regardless of the IP address it was contacted from.
What is reported host IP?

I'm trying to setup a dedicated server however, the server is behind a dedicated firewall provided by my hosting provider. It doesn't do a NAT, rather, the IP address of the server is bound to the IP of the firewall.

Unlike a NAT, you connect to my server using it's own real IP address, however, if I connect out from my server, the IP reported is the IP address of the firewall. The entire Netblock is routed through the firewall.

What I suspect is happening is when my dedicated server is contacting the Master Server, the IP address the Master Server sees is that of the firewall. When someone tries to connect, the are sent to the IP of the firewall, which will then ignore the connection. They need to be sent to my servers real IP. The traffic will hit the firewall, be inspected, then passed to my server.

So, how do I know what address the Master Server is sending people to? How can I tell the Master Server to ignore the address it thinks it's being connected from, and to use a different address?

Quote from Lateralus :There are a couple exceptions to this. For example, when coming out of the tight hairpin on SO Town Course, the acceleration zone is steeply uphill. In most cars you're going to want to wait a second or so after the red light comes on. If you shift right when it comes on, the engine will bog down a little bit and you'll be slow. Best to keep the revs as high as possible.

And the reverse, when driving downhill, change a little early. The red indicator is only good on perfectly flat roads which are very rare. Every corner on every track is different and as such, there is no single rule of when to shift that you can use.

Practice, practice and more practice. And when you think you've done enough, do some more.

My menu jumps from the left to the right screen when I select the custom resolution, but the 'M' key still does nothing but beep and view remains centered.

Wanted a better range of cars to drive then offered in GTR2. Found this and played the Demo for about 4 hours and then purchased an S2 license.

I like it!
