Making live for speed a way to tune your real racecar?

Hey,
This is an idea I had talking to a freind on aim.

Is there a way LFS could have a car, that is only able to use offline, that say is just four wheels and an engine. you input how much the engine wieghs, its power output at xxx-xxx rpm, the engine position, tire size, wheel size, wieght, and all the measurements for the suspension.

reason i ask, the physics are decent. but how many of you have wondered how some different rate springs/whatever would feel but dont feel like taking the time to swap everything go to the track and do it when you have LFS already on the computer.

basically an advanced mode, where you are required to spend a couple hours typing in measurements for your car's moving and non-moving parts, so that then you can have it on and go to a lfs track and play with shocks/springs/etc.

just an idea, i know nothing about programming or what it would take, but just curious if this is even a possiblility. probably wouldnt get used a lot but it'd definately be veerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry cool to some people, and it'd be a cool tool to learn more about car setup for people like myself who dont have a lot of experience with fine tuning and nitpicking little things.

cool to read threads like this. for fundemental stuff its pretty good way to get the fundementals, bascs, and a good foundation for car control out embedded into the mind.

post some vids of the pro guy playing lfs, i bet he likes it.

gotta love the e-hardasses like above.

the clutch wear isnt realistic for drifting. if you think im some random internet racer maybe you should do some research. im not going to toot my own horn but seriously, can everyone stop looking at the internet as a pissing contest? so lame. wish my penis was as big as yours buddy.

back on topic if possible, adjustable wear on server setup would be cool.

say if you were setting up a drift forum and didnt want everyon to have to pit every lap, then maybe a way to turn clutch/tire wear off or resettable would be a cool option to have.

im going to ask though that nobody tell me how to drive, i know its obviously very difficult for some of you users of teh intarwebzz to not have to tell everyone how better you are, but spare it.

Quote from flymike91 :well the fenders are stolen from ectype, god knows where the tail lights came from. It looks like you cut up an ectype using Kidpix. oh and mike I saw ur videos on youtube. I thought ur car had a turbo 4 then i heard it I was like, no.... LS1 I reckon?

yah, i had a car with ka-t that was my daily driver also then the turbo blew on it while ls1 car was mid construction.

i've got my new chassis outside right now and i'll be building another ls1 car soon.

the fbomb car in your sig is what i really wanna build though, cant afford it

ugh....

i didn't ask for lack of damage.

i didn't ask for walls you can bounce off of with no reprocussion.

i tried to offer a solution to the clutch issues the drift people are having, which was instead of an overall car reset, just a pit stop refresh without the pit stop.

some of you people need to stop taking this forum so oMg sRsLy!!1, if you want to claim the bigger penis fine. but this was asking about a drivetrain reset or drivetrain damage on/off for some servers.

part of the reason i play games on the internet is so i dont have to load the trailer, strap down the car, drive wherever, unload, check, reload, go home. some people use this as a video game because they dont want all the hassles of real life bullshit, they just want to e-drive.

okay, on a server you can turn car reset on or off.

so how about a way to just turn clutch/tire wear on/off or add a reset/recool hotkey that is allowable on a server.

maybe as someone who's around this stuff and judges it all the time i've just got a well-trained ear. 1/2 my freinds say it just sounds like nascar with ac/dc.

Quote from Woz :

Ok, so you drift with a car custom built to drift. Here are some question that interest me...

What is the clutch in that car, standard or some heavy duty multi plate clutch?
If NOT the original clutch, why did you change it?
How often have you glazed the clutch disks?

www.zoomclutch.com ls1 twin-plate.

i've had it out several times, its got some hotspots but its in great shape still, and has outlasted two ENGINES. my $2k retail clutch has outlasted two of my ENGINES. not just one engine, TWO.

and my car still has less suspension adjustability than an XRT.

the XRT from my expereince has the same clutch issues as a stock mazda miata with a 150k stock clutch that came from the factory with a turbo kit on it.

Quote from ajp71 :That video doesn't show you doing flat upshifts all merely going sideways. I want to see a pedal cam of proper 'flat shifts'

Quote from wark :You have to really, really be trying to put heat in your clutch in LFS to succeed (as it seems to me). I think part of the problem is people are flatshifting while using auto clutch, and this is just unrealistically slow. If you were flatshifting in real life, you would spend much less time on the clutch.

i'm not. look at the video in my sig to see the kind of real life abuse a clutch gets. now replicate that in live for speed. lasts about a lap if i drive like i do IRL.

Quote from RatzMilk :I posted a thread about the new restricted views when using TrackIR and had a lot of people tell me that the new 90 degree viewing angle is more real and LFS is going for realism.

I pointed out that that this game still allows the Wonder Woman invisible car view, the Cherry Picker view from above and behind the car, both are which are straight out Arcade mode views, plus custom views from pretty much anywhere.

As many posters said that looking further around than 90 degrees was not possible in real life, I assume, they would also agree that the Wonder Woman and Cherry Picker views should also be removed, as they are not possible in real life either.

So, I would like to know, would people prefer:

i dont konw about you, but IRL in my car i don't see the dashboard, steering wheel, center console, shifter etc.

i always use the wheels veiw to make up for the loss of butt in the seat and steering wheel in the hands feedback.

its a game. its NOT real, never will be. and it will become unrealistic if you try to make it too realistic.

clutch for example.

would it be possible to create a solid type Krail in addition to the water barriers?

the signs are kinda cool, but something that doesnt tend to flip the cars as easliy.

i'm gonna try to replicate some the nopidrift and formula drift track's i've driven on but i dont feel the walls that make you bounce back dont quite work all that well.

like the walls on the oval track, something like that.

ok i just wanted to start off by saying this is a great video GAME and its really fun and its pretty realistic.

i drift on it a lot. the clutch thing annoys me as several tecniques i use in real life are affected by the clutch heat thing, and as someone who drifted proffesionally for 3 years i know that it is not realistic.

i think there needs to be balance considering that in all reality this is a video game, and sometimes too much realism is honestly, too much.

you dont have the feel of a real car, you dont have the control of a real car, the seat in the pantsness, teh ability to blow bearing specs putting your motor together, its a video game.

i think the clutch heat thing is a really cool idea, but in all practicality its a lot more hassle than its worth, and the game was better without it.

i hope that makes sense....

Quote from JTbo :Your tires have probably quite weak grip compared to that clutch, there must be wheelspin no matter what gear is in

this is true on my application somewhat, but even on the game if the tires are spinning the clutch still gets hot. it seems to be a constant reaction to the action, with no difference to the situation, i.e. if the tires are spinning IRL the clutch will just roast them, but in this game if the tires are spinning the e-clutch still roasts because thats waht its programmed to do.

also clutchkicking fries clutches. i got the clutch meter going and kill a clutch every lap or so.

Quote from ajp71 :They were just on the shorter single laps, the engines as jtbo said the engines couldn't last a lap of one of the long tracks.

Your repair bill

Seriously can you not work out the reason why there aren't loads of videos of 'flat shifting' on the web? Going on the basis that a 10 year old computer game let you get away with it (for a lap) wouldn't fill me with confidence.

you mean you never watched the flatshift olympics on specialtube?

most people dont do it because they either
1) have a racecar with a dogbox
2) know htey dont and use the clutch
3) have electronics

Quote from Woz :LOL

And STILL NOBODY will post an LFS replay of what they think is wrong.

Why won't one of you "Clutch in LFS is wrong" people post a replay in LFS that shows incorrect heating of the clutch.

Actually LFS needs all of those.

You appear to believe that you cant kill a clutch. I think that is the problem.

FFS... JUST POST THE REPLAY

how do you take replay and upload it, and honestly i dont feel like taking time to demonstrate something that can be easily proven by driving up to a wall after pressing f9, flooring it in the dirt in 3rd gear, hitting hte clutch and watching the clutch fry because thats how the game is setup.

lfs is an awesome game and im not trying to insult it im just saying the clutch thing is annoying and from real life experience its not very realistic.

seems to do more harm than good.

ok i'll bite with video possibly.

you guys just wanta video of a car full throttle shifting at a road course?

i've got a ls1 powwred 240sx with a ZOOM twin-plate that i'll be happy to take to www.texasworldspeedway.com and do a HPDE session while *trying* to full throttle shift on every upshift just to demonstrate that the clutch will hold it.

i say try because honestly i'll forget, but i have a camera i can mount inside.

this will be a while before i can do this, but i know my car will handle it. and i know zoom would kinda be happy with another video they can send out showing how i cant break their clutch even when im trying, even though i'm also known for making stock clutches last while drifting
