Coulthard was definitely not the only one who put the blame on Montoya. In German TV they also said that Montoya was way to optimistic in attempting the pass there and going a little too fast into the turn. And the way I witnessed it, Rosberg actually did not even close the door on Montoya but instead stayed further to the outside than he normally would have. But Montoya rumbled over the curb and apparently "hopped" into Rosberg.

Rosberg himself btw said, that it was maybe 15% his fault and 85% Montoya's. The German commentator however didn't agree, he said it was very nice of Rosberg to take part of the blame, but he felt it was 100% Montoya's fault. Of course, one has to take into account that Montoya does not have the best reputation and therefore ppl are likely to blame him.

Quote from Mrs FienDi :Now I suggest you let Solar Hydro decide who caused the accident and will there be a penalty, and if so, what will it be.

Exactly! And that's what should have been done all along imho. I mean, this thread is really no fun and nobody benefits from it .

Quote from Tweaker :I still don't see the benefit of watching F1 live versus watching it a few hours later in recorded format.

I personally think there is a big difference. It's more a psychological thing, though. That feeling of being right there at the time it actually happens adds a lot to the experience, imho.

But on the whole, I really don't understand how one can get so worked up about this issue. It's a very simple question of getting your priorities straight. Or, as the british (or is it the americans?) say: You can't have the cake and eat it too .

I really like that idea of reversing the top xx% or the top x drivers. It would have the benefits of reversed grid while pretty much eiliminating the downsides. +1

Well, I think the difference between the MRT5 and the MRT6 would have been rather small and therefore there was really no need to put in the MRT6 as an addition to the MRT5. A replacement would have been much more likely. But of course, that doesn't make much sense for a racing sim, does it? Think about the efforts the devs would have to put into it just to get a car with pretty much the same characteristics as a car already ingame illepall.

And as for the MRT6 with wings from the screenshots: I don't know if McGill tested wings or if the devs just tested the aeromodel, but the rL MRT6 came without wings and therefore the LFS-MRT6 should have come without them as well, I would think. And btw: Wings are not prohibited in formula sae, but they probably don't make much sense due to the relatively low speeds.

You came up with that logo in 47 minutes? (or were you referring to the earlier post? that wasn't me, though). That logo looks really cool and if not for the server list, it could still be used for participating team-websites, car-skins and whatnot to advertise the idea. I would gladly update my skins with it. Maybe even with a slogan in front: Keep your server [logo]. Thus saying: "Keep your server barricaded". Or just "keep it barricaded". As for the servers: iB in front of them would definitely do it for me, but the server owners would have to decide, of course.

Anyway, I'm glad the idea didn't go unnoticed and am awaiting the outcome .

Quote from 81spidey18 :for the info its my first time in a OLLFS race next weekend and i wanted to know if

1.) we can use our own liveries
2.) do we have to stick our number according to website on our car?

thx

1.) Yes, definitely.
2.) AFAIK: no. I have been always using my lucky number (didn't help me much though ) which differs from my OLFSL number and nobody ever complained. Actually, you don't even have to stick any number on your car if you don't want to, so using a different one than your OLFSL one should be fine.

erm, yeah ... as much as I enjoyed he conversation , I would really like to bring something up again that has been said in a much earlier post:

Is there a way for ppl to find out which servers are actually participating in this great "wrecker barricade"? And if not, do you think it would be appropriate to just publish the server names somewhere, so everybody who's interested can look them up? What was suggested earlier was that there should be a tag within the server name or a message on connecting to it. As for the first option, I'm not sure if all server owners would want that. And the second one I find not too helpful since I would like to know beforehand if I'm connecting to a wrecker-barricade-server or not. A list somewhere would be fine imho and it shouldn't be too hard to do, should it?

thx for your great efforts and keep up the good work

Hi Racedoctor,

I don't know what it's like on demo-servers right now as I don't go there, so I can't really say if S2 full is worse or the same as far as wrecking goes. But what I know is this: There are a lot of servers with fair and clean races and only very seldomly do I come across races or servers where a lot of foul language is used and much wrecking, intentional or not, is going on. This might be due to the fact that most of the time I find myself racing on well-known team servers. I mostly end up on "Mercury Racing #1" recently (well, not too recently as I had absolutely no time to race) or, some weeks ago, on the NASSA servers. Reason being that they always run the OLFSL combos, the league I'm participating in.

So one advice would be to join a league or organized events (as said before) to have some nice racing. You might want to have a look at OLFSL. The good thing is that all kinds of racers of different skill levels come together there and the events always guarantee some close competition.

The second advice would be, that even if you don't feel like joining a league, checking their race calendars might be a good idea. You are likely to find a server running the combo of the upcoming events with a bunch of serious racers who are practicing for it. Wrecking and foul language should be the exception on those.

About the vids Darkone posted: I think overtake1 and overtake3 are pretty clear. Nice overtaking moves executed by drivers who obviously knew what they were doing. I especially like overtake1.

Overtake2 (which isn't an overtake, obviously) illustrates very well imho, why the concept introduced by Senna in the opening post usually does not work in LFS with all the drivers of different skill levels and different concepts of what "real racing" is in their opinion. Darkone said it himself: He was lucky that Adam did _not_ turn in on him. I would not have turned in either, even though I would have had all the right to do so, as the driver behind was clearly in no position to pass. But I like finishing races more than I like crashing. Darkone did the right thing and backed off. However, many drivers (usually fast ones who think online racing is the same as hotlapping) would not have backed off. Knowing that, I tend to leave room - especially in certain chicanes - which means slowing down. That sometimes leads to the situation described somewhere in an earlier post: both cars are slowing down, waiting for the other to take the line. Or, often enough, it leads to the situation that I end up losing a position

So, the bottom line is: In general I would fully agree with Senna's concept, the way I understand it. But the reality of LFS is not like that. And I don't think vids will change it, because in most of the cases the ppl you are fighting have not seen them. Unfortunately, I don't have a better solution, and I actually think there is none.

Quote from ajp71 :Anyone got any race sets they'd like to share please?

Have you tried darkones WR set from inferno? I have no idea, if it is suitable for a 30 lap race, probably not, I guess.

And btw, I ran the current WR through f1perfview and average throttle is 95 %, percentage of full throttle is 92, between 6 and none 2. Veeery fast combo, I must say .

edit: and a total of measly 4 braking points, I might add .

Great idea! However, I don't know how that works. Could someone pls explain?

Here's what I got:

I opened winamp, went to play URL-->entered "http://www.olfsl.com"

and I get the message, that winamp is connecting to olfsl.com. and next I get the message "[resolving hostname] http://www.olfsl.com". That message stays and I can't hear anything. What am I doing wrong?

edit: nevermind, I got it to work by simply clicking on the "listen"-link

I had the same problems once on my old gfx card. I soon replaced it with a brandnew 9800 Pro and everything is fine ever since. So it seems like your card is somehow screwed. But if you just bought it, you should still have warranty ...

I like the lighter one. It almost looks as if it had specular highlight (like real asphalt/tarmac). Maybe a bit too much, though, but overall, I think it's really getting there.

I bet it's even possible to do a no-stop strategy with the FXO (not sure though, as I haven't tried it for 30 laps). It's definitely possible to do with the XRT, though. Just have to keep sliding to a minimum - I'm working on that .

Very strange poll, I must say, and the outcome is even stranger. Everybody who voted for second or third option is clearly condemning a whole group of ppl just because a minority of that group is not behaving nicely. That's unfair, prejudicial and displays imho a really bad attitude. You could condemn the licensees for the same reason, or, for other reasons, the women, the men, the disabled, the foreigners etc. Very sad poll

Thx, guys. Never came across this before and didn't really know what to search for, so I didn't even try.

Still wondering why it's only on fernbay, though ...

Seems like a hard choice for you, Renku.

I've only tried FXO and XRT so far and I'm probably about a second faster with FXO (need to try offline all by myself, though). Tires don't seem to last as good on FXO as on XRT, but it's currently much easier for me to get consistent times with FXO. However, that may change if I practice XRT more. I would actually like to take the XRT as it's more fun, but I won't if I'm not competitive. Still undecided .
Strange lines on fe2. Gfx?

Hi there, I noticed that I'm having some strange gfx issues on fernbay green (haven't noticed any of this on other tracks). There are strange lines on the track, in the trees and even in the background at some places (see attached pic). Almost looks like seams between textures or sth. Anybody know what that could be?

edit: I checked once more and it seems to be on all fern bay tracks but non of the others. Could it have to do with Kid's and Don's hires skys? I have those installed but as I didn't like the sky and blueish reflection of fernbay, I switched back to the originals. But maybe not all of the necessary original files? Which ones are only for fernbay?

Even though lalathegreat is a demo racer, his point about setups is not as far off as some of you make it look, I think. The patch hasn't been out for too long and I think it's very well possible that further setup development might make the cars a little more even than they are now. I have to admit, I doubt that they will be as even as most of us would like them to be, but who knows.

I might be wrong here, but it seems to me that before the patch, the FXR had not been compatible for a very long time. It definitely wasn't for me. However, after some time (actually shortly before the new patch came out), I gave the FXR a new try and downloaded a setup from inferno (I think Flotch made it but am not quite sure). With that set I was actually faster on As National with the FXR than with the FZR. Of course, that doesn't count as much, as I'm far from being the fastest racer out there, but it seemed, that the FXR with the good setup suited my driving style a lot better. I wonder, if anybody else had a similar experience or if it was just me and maybe hope being the father of this idea (erm, I'm afraid that saying doesn't translate too well into english).

Oh well, thought I might as well start it .

As I haven't really driven this combo (not even in S1, I think), I sure need a lot of practice. First I'll have to do some testing to find out which car suits me best. Next stept I can actually start to get faster (1.21.xx so far with the XRT). And watch the chicane after start/finish please. Neither of the cars is a cat, you know .

According to hotlaps, the fxo is the fastest on fe2. But who knows, maybe over longer distances the xrt or even the rb4 are competitive. Unfortunately I have no idea, as I haven't tested either one since the patch. Actually, I don't even have an online pb in either one on fe2. I guess, I will have to do a lot of practicing ...

Changing weather conditions would be really, really nice, no doubt about that. And it being totally random, like Becky suggested, would be really cool as well. It kind of goes along with the idea of real time day to night transitions. Which also would be cool but not as practical as changing weather. I mean, at least on the european tracks I would be racing at night mostly then, which would kind of suck. Anyway, I don't expect any of this until S3 tbh.
