Well, decisions get made for you... the plan was pass the exam, get MCSE, get a job, buy 7900GTS. Now it's the same but I also buy a wheel to replace my broken joystick.
I have steering on the X-axis, throttle and brake on the Y-axis. Every time I change anything it all goes haywire but maybe I should sort out what's best now before I get too used to it. I'll try the mouse thing.
I had a go in the GTI too, my Blackwood time drops to 1:42 then. Still some learning to do then...
That's the thing. It seems to me that getting round the track fast is one thing, that's a start but to race you have to do it whilst passing. That's much harder. Doing it without getting in the way, without hitting people, without taking stupid risks is another. I know there's no real risk but I think it's much more fun once you can join in properly and make a positive contribution to the atmosphere. That's why I want to get better. It's also much better for your ego if it wasn't too easy to beat you.
People do, I find. It's a shame it's not in a more positive way. Still, I'll have to now, won't I? I wonder if the missus will accept it as an excuse for hours on-line?
I've been practicing the tracks and for example got my Blackwood time down to 1.12, which lets me keep up. Driving round on your own is no good though, I thought I'd use the AI to practice racing skills but they seem to hit me a lot. Are they that stupid or am I doing it wrong? I've noticed they crash into each other without me there so I'm leaning towards the first option. Obviously sometimes it's mistakes but often they just seem to ignore my being in the way.
I'm not expert enough to say for sure but I know that a lot of ISPs lease their time off other people, so if it is the same time every day it might be that you get switched from one network to another, or a network stops leasing space on yours, that kind of thing. The packet loss could be happening on a different part of the journey between your computer and the server, so it wouldn't change - the same percentage of loss at a higher speed would have less effect on the game, I think. I'm being vague because I don't know all the details but if there's a pattern you can see there's a reason somewhere... if you kept a log of exactly when it was happening you'd find your ISP would figure it out, I'm sure.
I'd love to have a nice simple answer for you. Sorry. My only suggestion would be that there must be other versions between 5.11 and 6.4, I'd try those and see how I got on. In between swearing at my computer and ranting at the ****ers who put me in this position, of course. I think the main problem is that you're outside the ATI workers' monkeysphere.
My first instinct would be to get crowd1atest.dds from the downloaded Zip file and replace the copy on my drive in the data\dds folder. Perhaps your copy has become corrupted.
I didn't mind tonight, when I was in second and the guy in first got disconnected so I won. OK, I'd like to win because I drove better but it's a start...
I've had the same thing. When people say "a server with a good PING", what do they mean? I know what a PING is but what's good? Less than 100? Less than 10? I've been disconnected from servers which report a PING of 30-40 on the list page. Most games seem OK with anything up to 150 for me.
My firewall has been told to allow LFS to connect and accept connections freely, it works mostly, so I'm assuming I don't need to 'Port Forward'. My connection seems quite stable, I thought I was doing something wrong and getting thrown out but it seems this game is more sensitive than most.
Don't feel bad. If it bothered me that much I'd just go, rather than come here and have a hopefully tongue in cheek sounding whine.
What I love about LFS happened this morning. I was on a server, proving to myself I just couldn't keep up, so I went for a practice on single player. It made me want to get better. Then there's the satisfaction when I finally got round faster than the AI was doing it, now I can go drive on a server (on one track, in one car...) without being 'that bloke that keeps crashing'. You feel really connected to what's going on. I'm all involved and I've only had it two days. Brilliant.
Maybe. I'm 38, I find I don't need to win all the time, it's cool to have a good race. The same thing happens on other MP games I've played, people get deeply personally upset about losing, reacting agressively and trying to prevent anyone from enjoying the game if they can't win. I can only assume they're teenagers, unable to control their hormonal responses. My hormones are wearing a bit thin these days.
I think part of it is the general human malaise, that sense people have that they are reasonable whilst everyone else is clearly unreasonable, otherwise everyone would agree with them.
Well, at least I now feel I'm not the only one who wants to have fun and learn some skills instead of being obsessed with winning. See you on the track folks.
I'm new, I've been playing the servers a bit and I noticed a few things, see if you can help me out.
When approaching a corner, if someone else is already going round the corner and they're in your way, you ram them off the track to get them out of the way.
If someone overtakes you, you have to catch them up and ram the back of their car, again causing them to spin off the track.
You must never slow down for yellow flags, just go full tilt and then abuse people for being in your way.
For a blue flag, never slow down or get out of the way. If someone does, crash into them.
