Well to answer your questions, the Camaro comes with both auto and manual transmission options. I am choosing the 6 speed manual transmission. As for my job, a telemarketing company that by next year will be the largest in the world, which offers good pay, benefits, and weekly bonus. And again as for the american V8 being the inline 4. It seems most 4's that can keep up with one are turbocharged, and hey, i can turbo mine too

oh and btw. I dont plan to be runnin petal too the metal constantly, I know how to drive even a camaro with responsibility and understand that just cuz it can go 0-60 in 6 seconds dosent mean it has too.

Quote from Stefani24 :The thing is, that as first car you better not have such powerful cars, because 1, You maybe don't have so much expierience (OP has more then many others it seems), and 2, because you are young, and you dont get so much money, for the tax, fuel, and so on.

I make more money then u may think. And trust me, i can afford it. And i work for my money, no rich family members lol.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :That's America... Everyone owns V8-s there

actually now not many own V8's anymore. You see more Honda's and Mazda's then anything else. Most ppl have 4 or 6 cylinder engines, more 4's though. As for the guy above u that said Americans fail at making cars, Not particularly. American cars are great. I admit some are quite heavy but most sports cars are on the lighter side. Although I must admit them trying to model the new ones after the old muscle cars is stupid. Making them heavy and they are way to wind resistant. Although they do look good.

Quote from PAracer :I've known several people who made a Ford Taurus as their first car. Most were the 3.0 or 3.8 v6 with auto tranny. I made mine the 220hp, stickshift version. SHO for those in the loop. Cheap insureance, cheap buy-in price, decent on gas. Keep in mind that the SHO was comtetition for the 5 series Bimmer back in the day. When it was introduced, they were near the top of the heap of sports sedans.

A nice SHO would run you $2000. Mid 20s combined mileage. I pay $35 a month insurance. You're out near Pittsburg, right? I know a couple guys out that way that stockpile used parts.

Good luck, and for the love of god, stay away from v6 Mustangs and Camaros. That is, unless you've got a set of tits.

The car I'm driving now, my gfs mums, is a 24 valve DOHC V6 taurus. Not a bad car but only gets 18 mpg average.

Quote from theirishnoob :whats the highest you can go on insurance ?? whats your drive train preferance.... any cars you simply wont drive ??

Insurance i would pay no matter what cuz i got to but would like to be as low as possible. I like any drivetrain, only concern there is AWD takes more gas, rear is bad in winter. As for any cars i wouldnt drive, VW bug.

Well, thanks for all the help so far. Its not that I have anything against 4 cylinder engines. Its just and American thing I guess. When it comes to power a stock V8 can get, depending on the car, over 450 hp. A modified v8 can get up to and over 1000 hp. I do like a few of the 4's though, civic and lancer for 2 And also keep in mind that a very small car is out of the question. I'm 6'2" and can have trouble being comfortable in one of them.

Quote from Bladerunner :Honest opinion?? Get a VW..preferably a Polo for your first car...failing that, a nice SMALL Civic that hasnt been riced up.
Get either of those and drive it properly, and you will have a MUCH better chance of still being alive to think about a second car some time in the future.
If new drivers were limited to the power of vehicles they were allowed, a lot more of them would see their 21st birthday.

If however, you can find a Mustang that will any V8 that will return better than 22mpg, will you send it to me please?

Lol a 2003 Mustang V8 5 speed gets 26 mpg highway and 19 mpg city.

I'll go with a 4 if i have to but always seemed a bit slow to me. I drive a 24 valve V6 ford daily and it seem a bit on the low power side. Maybe I'm just a bit eager on power but I love cars and I love speed. Its an addiction, cant help it.

Well, I'm going to be buying my first car soon and was looking for opinions from other drivers out there with a good knowledge of cars. I'm looking at many different cars and would like some opinions on the best.

1. Mitsubishi Lancer
2. Mitsubishi eclipse
3. Ford Mustang
4. Honda Civic
5. Volkswagen
6. Dodge Stratus

Would like opinions on these cars and feel free to add your own. Try to stay below $10,000 and I would like if possible to stay away from a 4 cylinder. V6 is good and V8 is ok if good mileage. Would like over 22 mpg highway if possible.

Quote from Alistair :some race cars are road legle.
for a start they have to have road tyers(on the road)
nos cant be used.
some seies you are not allowed to put your car in a transporter you have to drive to the track befor you race.
i dont know were to get the info but a lightend car with race seats and a roll cadge would be legle in the uk and would (if made correctly) offer better crash protection.

lol u dont have to worry bout nos cuz i believe in the motto all throttle no bottle. and i live in lawrence county

I was wondering where i would get rules to see what mods would be street legal and what would not. Im looking to buy a ford mustang GT V8 5 speed, 2000/2005 and i need to know where i can find the laws on some mods. I live in USA, Pennsylvania and All im really looking to do is lighten the car up, add racing seats and possible roll cage, etc.. so if anyone knows where i can find this info let me know.

Just wondering what some of the lfs users favorite types of racing is. I'm already pretty sure that 90% of the answers are going to be F1.
But I dont think everyones is.

For me. I Love NASCAR. I know that everyone says that turning left constantly would be boring but that is usually countered by having 4 or 5 cars around u at almost all times and the 180 mph speed and never having to slow to 20 mph for a turn.

This dosent just include F1 and NASCAR. Dont forget about Le Mans, kart racing, stock car, Late model, Sprint cars, Modifieds, Drag racing, Street racing, drifting, super bike and even horse and dog racing if u want.
