Quote from CELTIC100 :
I believe most of the original crew that frequented the B and J have left it only to concentrate on the other licences, but now every time I look now at B and J in the hope of getting a quick fix there's no one In there.

It can produce some of the best racing if you can get 8 - 10 racers in there.

Thoroughly agree there celtic, used to be I would join a server with at least 10 or so fellow racers (even with my weird "australian" hours), but now struggle to get 3 or 4, most times its empty. Joining with only one or two to earn one or two points a race, and having to do three or four races to earn just the joining fee back is a bit disconcerting, so sometimes i find myself steering clear when I want to have a bash.

I'll see if I can cook up a layout, never really tried before, might be a bit simplistic, but sometimes they can be the most fun (WobblyOval being a prime example).

Dropping Tudor rose & Champagne? I'm 50/50 on that, I've been reasonably successful on Tudor Rose, so will be sad to see it go. I'm all for dropping the S1 restriction though (seriously, how many S1 licensees are actually still out there and racing on this server?), I would love to see the UF1 in some shorter type tracks (with jumps of course).

Becky, if you can work out a way to put some layouts on the other tracks, that would be awesome and would add a whole new dimension to the server.

I'm finding less and less people on the servers atm too, maybe due to repitition or something, i dont know. I still love this genre and keep logging on to try and find some competition, or even - like kurent - join when its empty so it shows up on the server list of those who might have the empty server filter set to no (like me!).

I totally disagree. Not opening up LFS to modding will NOT spell the end of this game. If that was the case, people would not play the demo for 2 or 3 years straight. I started playing this game at S10.5E or something and only got my licence when S2 Alpha was released.

Look at rFactor. It may have a larger user base (although I dont think its too much bigger than LFS) and is totally moddable. Given this, it should be a highly developed huge game with massive popularity, yet it doesn't. It is not highly developed and is by no means the best simulator. In this instance, modding may have saved rFactor in terms of changes in content, but playing it online is almost impossible due to no servers or everyone wanting to play a combo that no one else wants to play.

For a game to survive in a demo stage for so long with such a different and open development schedule is a testament to this bunch of computer code.

Its a big NO to the modding!!!

Quote from FL!P :Another solution is to fill the report with the last available replay, and then (later) change the replay from the website when you submit the report.

Yep, this is what I do. It is definitely the best option if you don't want to miss the next race. Once I've gone into MyCTRA to file them, I double check the replays (once I've changed it to the next available) and since I started doing this I've thrown out half of my own reports.

Its also good to be able to edit your description to make it more detailed and check the actual driver and lap the incident was on.

This is a toughy. I've gone for racing incident here. There was definitely no intentional contact, the passing moves were not overly aggressive and I really believe a race steward in any form of racing would hand out a penalty for that incident.

It happens very quickly, very little time for anyone to react, so I'm not blaming anyone for this.

P.S. Astra, whens the album coming out? Lalalalalaaaaaaa.....

Quote from CSU1 :painfully dreadfully showed the worst part in lfs physics again and again. boring. too long. crap song.imo

1/10 - could do better

Somehow, I get the feeling that you may have, and please correct me if i am wrong, but you may have slightly, just a little bit

MISSED THE WHOLE BLOODY POINT!!!!!!

It's a fun little video, not made to showcase anything. I thought it was quite good.

Quote from Nick A :Thanks Did you leave it at 60fps then or did you somehow convert it again back to 30fps? 60fps would be too high becasue I want to post it on the web once I'm done, and obviously most vierwers wouldn't benefit from a frame rate above 30fps anyway.

EDIT: I suppose I could do what Gratrix suggested in post 243 and just re-record the footage at 14fps and then follow the suggestion above but at 30fps as that would also probably result in a smoother video as my PC struggles a bit with lots of cars in the race. Shame as it means I'll have to re-shoot everything but if it works then that's what I'll do.

Well, once I edit it together and render it, it ends up being 30fps anyway due to my render settings. recording at the lower fps also works, i have done both with reasonably similar results, although a 10,000rpm hard disk would be sweet.

Quote from Nick A :I'm trying to make my first movie but I can't get Virtualdub to double the frame rate. I followed the instruictions in the first post, recording with fraps at 30fps playing the replay at 0.5X speed. In virtualdub I select process every other frame and hit F7 but it just saves the clip unchanged, still at 0.5X. If anyone has any ideas why it's doing this I'd be really grateful.

I had this same problem. I got it too work by instead of "processing every other frame" i selected both "convert to:" and typing in 60fps and also "change to:" and typing 60fps. doing this sped the footage back to normal speed.

Quote from LFSn00b :B went maybe too far to the outside to the curve, and obviously didn't look at his left and drove into A.

I cant see how B drove into A. B was taking the corner, he may have been a little offline but that really is irrelevant, and A thought he would squeeze through a gap that didnt really exist. A did not have the overlap required to make a pass, so B was quite within their rights to continue on that line.

Quote from Mp3 Astra :I love the way the names popped up with those cool synth drum sounds! I might have to borrow that method sometime

Hehe yea, it just added a little extra bit too it. The sounds were directly from Pinnacle Studios sound effects.

As for the MX5, it had a massive turbo on it, you could hear it spool up pulling away, and it was definately hella quick, down the main straight it was lightning fast. Totally owned those porsches & ferrari, walked away with each race for that class. Unfortunately, i didn't get a shot of the mx5 engine as it was in a garage in the pits facing in.

Here is a very short clip, about a minute long.

What happens when noobs race REAL race cars?

No effects to speak of, just threw this together for fun. Short bit of LFS action and some action taken from my local track, Wakefield Park. (quick plug - http://www.wakefieldpark.com.au )

If anyone wants a direct download link, i'll put it somewhere if requested.

I voted "A". He didn't have sufficient overlap to pass "B" cleanly regardless of the corner. His nose was not even halfway up "B"'s car.

Also, he tried a very stupid line when driving so close to another car, he was just flat out at that corner, he didnt even lift off the throttle, and his over-correction of the slide he was in due to taking the corner like that was rediculous. He probably would have got through that corner quickly and cleanly had he been on his own, but when your with another car, that sort of corning taking is just plain selfish.

Quote from Jakg :If there are a low number of racers you DO get more points (1 point iirc) simply to keep you there hopefully attracting other racers.

Yes this true, i was only doing this last night, the BnJ server was empty, I joined it anyway to see what layout was running, ran one race, and got one point. By the time I had finished though (4 laps on the Pit) there were 6 racers ready to go. With an average of 4 starters, i was getting 13 pts for the win.

Quote from Sawyer :what do the drivers use for playing the game as well.

well, i'm using a trusty old Sony Trinitron Multiscan 17" CRT monitor built i think in about 1997. works a treat, no dramas at all and fantastic refresh rates at higher res.

although i might upgrade to some sort of lcd sooner rather than later.

Would you rather pay $90-100 for any other PC racing game?

I believe the fastest lap statistic on your licence to actually be if you ran the fastest lap of the whole race (for your class/vehicle). I've had plenty of fastest laps during a race, but come the finish line, i've only ended up with a few as someone always beats me.

Quote from phillip :Does and one have a voucher code for s1 or s2 liscence im new here and the demo is boring but it wont allow me to buy the s1 or s2 license

"it"? "it" wont allow you? what do you mean?

if your really a cheapskate, keep your eyes on the forum, sometimes players get generous and give out licence vouchers.

i dont know how you find the demo boring, i was a demo player for about two years before i got my s2 licence the day s2 was released.

Thought I'd just post this here, rather than raise a new thread.....

Tonight on BnJ, we had an automated track change to Parkway Long set at 9 laps in the XRG. So, off we go. I happened to be in the lead come about Lap 6 or 7 and setting fastest laps when out of nowhere, the race ended, and the layout changed again to Pit of Despair.

There was no end race vote (one guy voted earlier, but there were several cars on track) and no server restart message or race restart message on screen. It just..... happened.

Any CTRA ppl shed some light on this mystery?? (Becky, you been tinkering agin? P.s. i still want my 50 free points from all those server restarts!! )

Quote from squidhead :it doesnt let you render in 2x speed, does it?

Render in realtime or when final rendering is done? I'm not 100% sure actually because I haven't gotten to the final rendering stage of my first attempt of a movie using Vegas.

I do know that it attempts to render the faster playback speed in realtime, but often my pc cant keep up and its choppy in the preview.

I did 9 laps on Parkway Rallyx last night with the LX4 and surprisingly, I finished the race. Mind you half the field gave up when the LX4 came up or dropped off throught the race.

I actually enjoyed it TBH, I'm going to practice with the LX4 because it suits that tight track really well. Especially on those real narrow extra sharp hairpins, a quick stab on the handbrake and half throttle gets me round those corners so much quicker.

I didn't think I would enjoy it, but i did.

I am assuming you mean the playback speed? If so, right click on the clip, select Properties and in there somewhere is the playback speed multiplier. Change it to go slower, faster or in reverse. Very simple.

Still get banned cos hacking the game is against the EULA and T&C for using it.

They wouldn't go on it anyways, cos most hackers want to show off and somehow expect to get praised for their work.
