"Lines" are shapes with layer effects on them to make the lines around the body enhancing seams like doors, bumpers etc.

I suspect you'd be interested in a png then of some of the parts I've made? Fuel filler caps, vents and rivets etc.?

The "heavy" parts are the layer effects on this one. I suggest if you're having trouble merge the effects layers and use a blend mode that suits your skin to show the details. It lessens the CPU load when previewing/editing your skin.
Other than that I would recommend hiding it all away when skinning and only pulling out the skin kit when exporting to jpeg for a preview.

On the matter of software, you're right. We are very conservative and getting stuck in our ways is a habit hidden deep in our evolution. So switching from one application to another and switching around your daily routine is never easy. Sometimes it's worth it, but it's definately a turnaround.

More like the "mnah" effect. Making you think "naah doesn't look that spectacular/good/interesting".

Also doing a proper preview counts ALOT. Most of the great skinners here rely alot on editing the previews and renders making them stand out even more. Not saying the skins are bad, quite the contrary, it just does that extra bit.

Straight lines and big gaps between details tend to give that effect.

Also you seem to have some stretching going on, badly on the motorola logo.

Try moving the hood Gulf logo halfway onto the orange lines and then fill out the gap made with some linear logos in a vertical line. Perhaps in the same direction as the Gulf logo is turned to liven it up.

Looks pretty good. But you should've continued to side decorations all the way up and not cut it off where it splits between side and top.

It's in 2 different versions. One where I played around with XCNuse's Global Illumination kit and one clean. The clean ones have a C in the filename(easy to spot the difference on the file previews also).

Only the left side to go. Only missing the Gitanes logo and it's done.

It's proving extremely hard to wrap the Gitanes blue and black logo around the F08. I'll do my best to have it done asap.

All decent image editing software and even mspaint can create jpegs. Which in terms of filesize is far superior to bmp.

The idea is great. The execution, ok.

It suffers alot for jpeg compression which is sad really. The stretching issue should've been really easy to adjust.

But as a first it's not shabby at all.
