Its been asked before!

The devs are working on it, but we're guessing here, my guess is early-mid-2006 sometime.

Yeah some other games have this feature, and I think its been mentioned on RSC before.

In the other games, if I remember correctly, public can occupy all slots, until an admin/team member wants in, then the last to enter gets kicked.

I think its a good idea generally.

Quote from AndroidXP :...backseat physicists...

My favourite phrase of the week

I'm of the same thoughts as others have said, I'm in no way qualified to tell the devs anything about tyre-physics, aero dynamics, car mechanics. But I can comment on what I feel about the game - I think its pretty good as it is TBH, maybe cos I've got used to the feel of the game already. I dont like the fact that newcomers dont seem to be able to drive LFS atall sometimes, but maybe thats just them.

You could get a cheapo non-forcefeedback wheel, I think some people have got them pretty cheap from Ebay etc.

If you want the best though (forcefeedback)- Logitech Driving Force Pro (The GT4 one).

Welcome to the best racing sim ever! (in most people's opinions )

In fact none of the smilies buttons etc work in the edit window either.... everything was fine on my other machine.... And Ive just noticed I have no carriage returns....

There no point in feeding this troll people, he comes back and says the same things without making reasonable arguements for his points. Someone please think of the children and lock this thread.... Wink

Quote from seggons :People, you have told him what has happened to the devs, hes acknowledge that, so lets just move on? Anything from here on is going to be pure flaming at each other. Let him have his own opinion on the game. We all look at games in diffrent POV's.

That may be, but he keeps coming back for more

We need to all chill out a bit here.

The game is unfinished. Everyone knows what needs doing, the community is expecting that most of the bugs you mention will be gone by the time the game is S2 final.

You say you dont care about the Devs and the work they have put in, well most of us in the community happen to actually care. So you come in here dismissing them against the likes of EA then you willl get some resistance from the community.

We have built up a respect for these people and their efforts over the years so thats why we protect the game and the devs where we can.

Also, LFS is cheaper than most games in most countries. Because the devs are mostly based in the UK then they have to sell the game in conversions of UK currency, which doesnt always work out better in some cases. There are plenty of Brazilian S2 licensed racers about so it cant be all that expensive.

You want to take a little time out before criticising people you dont know much about, also a subject I'll assume you dont know much about (the subject of coding a game from scratch without big-name help).

If you feel this game is too unfinished to pay for, then simple as this - go and play something else and STFU for a while. Plenty of people disagree with you and will continue to play the game and provide clear constructive criticism back to the devs to help get the game finished.

I have similar problems with my mates in Scotland. Mate Kev reckons he could get a Fiesta (this) round corners faster than you can in any of the road cars in LFS. I have told him time and time again its a perception thing... but he doesnt get it.

All this from someone who's idea of a good game is one on the XBox... dont know if he's worth converting!!

I think its those Arcade gamers that are the hardest to convince, because there are no "tuning" or other arcadey type effects (like the motion blur in Moto GP). They probably will never put in the time and effort to experience one of the best simulators available.

The couple of people I managed to get to look into LFS from work, had a look, one of them even bought a wheel. But because they were crap at it, they gave up. So I bought the wheel (reduced price of course) from that friend and now I have a nice new one

Its a pity more people cant put the time in to get into it, otherwise LFS would be much larger than it is now.

heheh funny thread name, got to be one of the best since the forum's conception

When I read post #1 I was thinking "Yeah man, he's right" but after reading more yeah its a tough one to call. Recently we have had a UF1 league race and the racing was "closer" at times, but mostly we were driving round watching each other from a distance as it takes lots longer to catch someone up in those (lesser powered) cars after a mistake.

I do miss the TBO class though, think I'll do that for our next league idea next year

Thinking about it, I think I do like the GPL system better (never played). Sounds like we wont have killed so many sets that way.

Welcome to the world of LFS!!

Tip number 1 - and you already know it - get a wheel

Or you could use the mouse to drive, plenty people are fast enough with the mouse, keyboard is more difficult to get fast.

Quick shortcuts:-

F12 - Tyre and on the fly setup changes
F9 - Tyre temps
F10 - Suspension damage
SHIFT+S - pit in
SHIFT+R - vote to restart
SHIFT+Q - vote to qualify
2 - save multiplayer replay

Some notes:

Joining a server and voting to restart straight away will not please most
Causing a crash at turn 1 is usually the best way to get kicked/banned

Other than that - have fun and get racing

Yes thats how it works.

You should always copy a setup if you want to change it (but leave the origonal in tact).

Just select the set you want, and click new.

Quote from noemfie :wont work ...only ip in the 10.x.x.x and 192.x.x and 172.x.x.x work and that wont be the ip of the server over the net

Oh yeah I forgot that! I noticed when I tried to play LFS over a APIPA network (where Windows guesses the IP range within 169.x.x.x range), obviously LFS errored when I used that IP.

Of course you can only do hidden games

Good to see you scawen

I thought it was a decent idea that people would use.

But it does stink of "Arcade Game" right enough.... and we LFS hardnutts dont like that word.

Try a LAN (local?) game, type in the IP, make sure the port is the same as the server, should work ok.

I know you could setup a web cam and point it at a spectating screen, then broadcast that, but the software is really expensive to get relaying webcam and the quality would be pretty bad....

Searching google for something, but I doubt we'll find something able to capture directX and broadcast it for cheap :s

[edit]
Found something that might "broadcast" the video, but you would need two machines, to output from one machine spectating via the video card, to capture it on the machine running the software. Would cost money for the software and no doubt would cost money to get a Windows Media Streaming server running with good bandwidth.

So looks very expensive to put together unless someone comes up with something via insim.

Quote from Rotary :That's why someone invented the search button!!

There's a thread about this very recently, in which again it was told that the ghost car is patented which means it would cost a large sum of cash to use. Not aware of any mods for one, that was discussed to. Replay analyser is what most people use.

Welcome to the LFS forums!

Yep correct this has been mentioned many times, maybe there needs to be a STIKY on using the search function....

However I would say that the term "Ghost Car" has been patented by Atari. You can call it what you like, "Training Shadow" or whatever and it should be cool....
