I think it would be worth it. You need to spend time in the first place getting used to the sim anyway, so I can't see how it would be too hard. Surely the tests would only need to be simple anyway - not-particularly-fast-but-okay reference lap times for each car and basic racing etiquette.

Maybe there could also be another, more difficult set of tests requiring, say, faster lap times and more distance covered online. That would allow more elite races... almost like league racing, but still on public servers

I like the idea of having some kind of online experience system. Say, once you have driven x miles in the FO8 you can move up to the BF1 - online - but you can drive any car you want offline or on servers that allow it.

If I've just unlocked LFS, why should I have to work my way up? Who cares if I want to mess around offline with the BF1?

I would hate to see the cars completely locked away again. When I came from GPL, F1C, RBR etc. to S1 all I did was race the AI around Fern Bay RallyX Green in the RB4 to get the credits. If I knew that system was in GTL I would never have bought it - luckily there is a file for unlocking all of the cars.

I get satisfaction from winning races ( ), not earning electronic money!

+1

It would be a small feature, but extremely handy to have. Surely all that would need to be changed is for it to copy temp.mpr to a new file and keep recording when you save, rather than just renaming temp.mpr itself.

The DFP is USB
I know it says it is for the PlayStation 2 and doesn't mention PC at all, but it will work because that's what the PS2 uses. Just grab the latest software from http://www.wingmanteam.com/lat ... ware/latest_soft_main.htm and plug it in.

I have one and it is a great wheel.

Edit: Oh, and people are about to tell you that you should have searched first

Quote from duke_toaster :+1 for pitspotter being built in.

However, note that the pitspotter voice samples will need to be redone, they sound familiar to one of my generally sound packs.

The sounds are from Papyrus' Nascar 2002/3, but all you'd need to do is record some new ones. AFAIK you can already do that so it wouldn't be a problem.

It would have to be able to be disabled though, because I can understand that some people would find it annoying, or just wouldn't want to use it.

Quote from tristancliffe :It is arcadey yes. But one day Scawen will make a 'hardcore mode' or something similar (I hope), and thus maps, overlays and stuff that cannot be transmitted by 'radio' (for which I'll allow undetailed overlays) will not be available. A pitboard, a radio overlay (which will control things like pitstop settings, live setup changes (brakes and arbs), basic timing data and visible tyre condition is all* you'll get.

*I may not have included everything you'd need to keep or remove, and I haven't given what I wrote a lot of thought, so if it's silly just ignore it. The jist is the hardcore mode removing excessively arcadey stuff.

Well, I can't wait for that day

Yellow flags are the same. When everyone has to slow down a certain amount when one appears, it will be great. At the moment it just doesn't work, as many people on public servers don't, which means that nobody can because they'll lose a heap of places. You can't half do it, it's got to be all or nothing.

Anyway, this is now faaaaar off topic...

Maybe it was silly to say that it should be built in, but it is handy if you choose to use it. I suppose it depends on how realistic you want to be. The map is arcadey, but it is a good idea to use it as it helps yourself and everyone else.

Maybe after enough practice you could use the mirrors to the same effect, but I haven't tried

PitSpotter needs to be built into LFS... using it makes it easy to always give room for other people, and I find it actually works much faster than trying to look around yourself. And if people who drive badly heard it, they might thing about what they're doing

From what I've seen on public servers, people just don't slow down for yellow flags. If I see one I normally don't slow down much, but I look at the map and keep a lookout, and drive around the crashed car. I don't remember ever hitting anyone. If I did slow down, everyone would just sail past me, at least on open servers. Of course it's not right, and I'm not saying it is, but if there was the risk of a penalty - or death - as in real life, then people would.

If I were you I would have pitted straight away. It's a six lap race, it's not a big thing - get over it and wait six minutes for the next one, or re-join and practice for a few laps. If it was a longer race then obviously it's a different thing - I would have stayed where I was, let everyone go by, and then carried on. If there was enough of a gap then I probably would have quickly moved to the side.

Quote from ebola :I remember once someone was in there for ages and it sparked a bit of a mystery here on the forums, the name escapes me at the moment though.

Was it Scawens g/f name spelt backwards or something?

Quote from zeugnimod :I think, it was an account, more than 1 people had the pass for and the one, who was always in there, didnt want the others to play. I think, it was sth like this, lol. IIRC, the nick was rkiller.

Dlareg! Time to read that thread again methinks

I never use it, but only because nobody is ever there. I find it quite surprising actually considering how many people are usually online.

There must be some reason for it. Maybe they just don't notice the button? I only occasionally have a look but I have only ever seen at most two people there. And one of them told me to 'f**k off' as soon as I entered as well

That definately looks like a rendered picture. The tip of the nose is slightly jagged, so surely it can't be a photo of the real thing.

Quote from Madman_CZ :would the fox and fo8 really have lights tho? bit unrealistic to have lights on single seaters

Quote from marsaz :they have red light at the back which is used when visibility is bad (rain, fog, etc.)

Yup. Rain light.

God, looks like a two year old just went mad on the wiki. I've just reverted 41 pages

Maybe it would be a good idea if people had to get a username to edit it? At least then you could ban idiots that just wreck everything. Banning IP addresses isn't really much use unless they're static.
