AWS 2022 - Round 5
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2022
Round 5

Monday,14th February
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

Blackwood RXGP is basically the round that started the whole idea of AWS - many years ago we found out the FXR equipped only with slicks is still faster than any other car on Blackwood's RX track and it requires some special skill to be fast,as the grooveless tyres on dirt sections had not much grip. During the years this round was away from schedule only for one season, when FXR rallycross was transfered to Fern Bay's RX track - that was considered as a mistake and AWS kept running FXR only in Blackwood since then. Last year LFS devs introduced test patch allowing dirt tyres for FXR,but unfortunatelly this patch was released too late to be used in AWS,so this year should had been first when FXR would run the "right" tyres. Well, another new patch made things different - there was a chance to add a new car with something new and this car took over from the good old FXR the honor of being run in Blackwood RXGP! The electrically powered XFE has slightly more power and better power/torque curve, which transfers also on running pace - the XFE is faster than the old car! But as in real world, the electrically powered cars still have one drawback - it's energy storage is relativelly smaller than the one for combustion engines, meaning drivers will need 2 or even 3 pitstops.

SPECIAL RULING for this round: Cars during pitstop may not move - as long as pitwork is still active, car's speed must be 0 km/h (mph)! This means you may accelerate only when on screen is shown "Pitstop finished". It is advised to apply brakes or emergency brake during pitstop to avoid car movement.
It is strongly advised to use stable patch 0.7A for this round due much faster charging! Battery recharge in later test patches is much slower and regen does not work with all wheel drive cars anyway,so there is no benefit using test patch for this round! Make sure LFS client shows correct version number on it's starting screen!

With three rounds left, there is still one distinctive standings leader, but his advantage was slightly cut in the previous round - the 13 points gap is not enough to lay back and cruise around in the remaining rounds as competition won't snooze and let chances away. Besides that also the both non-individual awards are on the line - successful round for one or other party might make or brake the race for titles. Also this will be 2nd and last round for the brand new Megawatt Award.

If someone hasn't received it due some mistake, please give a notification!

Signups are still open and new entries will receive PM at some point during monday.
The unfortunate timing with new version 0.7B might cause some confusion, but make sure you have installed 0.7A version before joining server for today's race! Any newer version will give you disadvantage with slow charging!

The classic of AWS - rallycross in Blackwoods tarmac/dirt track was carried as 5th of 7 rounds this season and as always delivered a challenge of it's own. This time it was not running slicks on unpaved surface, but a powerful electric powered car, that uses more resources than it would be comfortable - hybrid tyres were running hot and energy storage exhausted quickly forcing drivers to pit twice and use the last chance of very fast recharge. But AWS regulars are used to various challenges and mastered them eventually, only 2 austrian drivers missed the message about need of older patch and got to know the new slower recharge process, spending about 5 minutes in pitstop...

The standard Blackwood Rallycross 3-wide starting grid gave the chance also for the 3rd place qualifying to start the race from front row - even if Fatal led just 9 laps in the latter 1/3 of the race, still he converted the front row start into his 1st AWS racewin, taking also point for fastest lap of the race. The more win-experienced driver was classified 2nd - standings leader V.Laguckas was promoted a position and earned extra 2 points. The one who got demoted a position was the polesitter Dzidoris - despite leading most of the race,he moved during pitstop and earned 30 seconds penalty, which luckily for him cost just 1 position.

V.Laguckas again extended his lead by 5 points and now has different closest rival - Fatal leads the group of 4 drivers, who in positions 2-5 are seperated by just 2 points with 6th position just another 3 points away. Even if 11 drivers can still theoretically take main championship title, these 6 are considered the only realistic candidates, allthough it will be tough to beat driver with most wins in AWS history.

This race decided also the 1st small individual award - Fatal is the winner of the brand new Megawatt award, awarded to the driver with most points scored in races with electrically powered cars - he won only on points tiebreaker (most wins) over V.Laguckas,Dzidoris finished 3rd in this table. Same situation is in table of Cross Challenge with difference that there is one more round for this award.

Thehemuli has practically secured the Rookie of the Year award for himself - he's 37 points ahead of Lorenzo, meaning only big shock can take the award away from him.

In teams standings LLM again increased their advantage and is now 16 points ahead of RGA,S1dus dropped even more back and might be not competitive for the award anymore. A total of 6 teams are still eligible for teams award, but latter 2 needs at least 2nd driver for that. Nations Cup is aready at it's final straight - only 2 eligible nations left and gap between them did not change in previous round as Lithuania is still 12 points ahead of Finland.

Round 6 will be the 2nd and last round with RB4 and therefor will decide another minor award, while it will be a new challenge for everyone - the track counts as road course, but there are 2 unpaved sections in it,which should not be a problem for RB4,the slowest AWS car (at least until this season).
