AWS 2021 - Round 6
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2021
Round 6

Monday,15th March
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

After two and a half months journey, the series has reached it's final stop at highspeed ring of Kyoto - season finale once again will be carried out using the fastest standard AWD combo - FXR at Kyoto Oval. A total of 30 drivers have scored at least one point during the first 5 series' rounds and thus qualified for the final round, which will be deciding the fate of 5 titles, including the main title - AWS Drivers Champion. For most drivers the circuit is well known - 3 banked turns and a kink on start finish straight, easy to race alone despite speeds over 250 km/h,but the real skill is to get most out of the race with plenty of other racers around you. Oval experienced will know that one car alone is significantly slower than 2 or if worked together well - 3 or more cars.

As always in RGE's oval events there will be hotlap qualifying where drivers will be alone on track. The running order of qualifying will be decided from Drivers Championship standings - lowest placed drivers will start qualifying while standings leader will take his run last. Everyone will have to run 3 laps - outlap and 2 timed hotlaps, after which driver should spectate, only fastest lap counts of course. 2nd timed lap is optional - theoretically cars are faster in 2nd lap,but in case of a mistake, driver can spectate without finishing 2nd timed lap.

As usual,to avoid many questions,Race Green Events' statement about bumpdrafting:
"With closed wheels cars it is not forbidden, but in case of any reported incidents it will be treated as intentional contact,so everyone has to make sure that he knows what he is doing!"

Despite the main title being on the line in final round, there's not much of an intrigue to it as current leader R.Kardol is 14 points ahead of closest rival with advantage in any points tie scenario - that means that the title will travel to Netherlands in any case if series leader scores just 3 points (11th position finish). Besides the smaller individual awards FXR Master and Oval Trophy, also both non-individual awards are waiting for it's owners - in AWS Teams Championship there is a points tie between both leading teams while Nations Cup is currently led by 11 points, which is still no deciding advantage with 30 points available.

Season finale started practically as the most of the season went - series leader R.Kardol was the fastest in qualifying session and started the race from up front. The Team S1DUS pair of R.Kardol and Botsi were able to brake away early, but soon got cought by followers and situation was changing regulary until one minor incident broke the 7 car leading group in pieces. That practically decided the fate of Teams Championship, which was swerving to both sides alternativelly until then - the S1DUS pair could run away and later also leave the remaining RGA driver. There practically was no real battle for win - Botsi kinda tried for overtake on the last straight, but seems like the motivation was missing and R.Kardol could score his 4th racewin of this season,3rd of those in row. Defending champion Botsi finished 2nd to score his 2nd podium finish of 3 tries this year and Rony used his teammates mistake late in the race to run away from him for remaining podium spot.

Full season recap and official final standings will be posted next week.
