I'm getting errors when I try to install it....both have been .dds (which I'm pretty sure is texture somekind?) but I can't continue installing it I would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like a corrupted installation file - try downloading the installer again, and when prompted for a location, make the path C:\games\LFS or something similar rather than using the default program files folder. It seems to work better this way.
